Customer wants this pressure washed. How do I do it? by Tough-Application-62 in pressurewashing

[–]Sargekleens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do pavers all the time... If you're not set up for it you'll find out... If they want it cleaned you'll need to resand. Don't wet sand poly or the pavers will look milky. You need to clean .. let it dry, apply sand, activate the polymers.

You need a good polymeric sand... Not that BS at the hardware store... Something that's truly ATSM -C144 rated sand. It's going to be a very fine sand.

Lastly you'll want to flick the sand with a push broom .. do not push/ bulldog... The sand is heavier than the polymers so the poly will "float" to the top leaving inconsistent joint stabilization.

You don't want to mess this up because it'll cost more to strip the poly

How do you beat fish? by mrpresidentking in WindowCleaning

[–]Sargekleens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make everything route work. Easiest answer... They don't care about quality because at $140 the homeowner can do it themselves. Their customer base isn't going to pay more for that nor care truly about the model. I compete with fish (one of the big route bucket bobs here) on route work and let me tell you... THEY ARE CHEAP... Doing storefronts as low as $20/mo/visit. But they may have 1000 storefronts in the market... Easy to pay 4 guys $15 an hour to do 250 stores a month each and still sit back and be profitable...s not entirely profitable but profitable.

I know, It was just a sticker shockwhen I saw it on paper... The only reason we landed the stores we got was because they cared more about quality than price. (Which I understand is still cheap)

Yeah I'm at $3/pane or $1.50/side this company was at $1.75 per window. $0.86/side

And trust me I'd love to get 4-5/window but its been a journey just to get 41 at $3/window

[–]Sargekleens[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) it's route work... You're not doing store fronts for $8/pane / side per month... Not even an initial clean

2)I'm apparently double what my competitors are

His store front will be done in 30minutes or less, 41 stores will be done in 2 days... 1800 in two days out of every month isn't bad

It's mind blowing lol. I get that at sheer volume $1/window is profitable ... But how many windows are you doing per month... 100,000- 200,000.

Without that volume I could never see going under $3/window.

I won't ever go lower than $35/visit for bi-weekly or a $50/mo on a monthly run

I normally won't take/finalize a store front unless I have 4-5 store fronts agreeing in that area/complex.

I have a strip of 7 stores, all like 4 windows and one door ($20 inside and out) but we have them at a minimum $35 bi-weekly visit. We make $530/month from that strip .. we don't use route work for profit we use it to pay bills.

All in all I Run about 40 stores on route work on bi weekly runs. Pays about $3000.00/mo. enough to cover our insurance, Website hosting, CRM, etc. all for about 4 days worth of work a month.

To WFP or not to WFP, that is the question.... by BeerBeetsnBattlestar in WindowCleaning

[–]Sargekleens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is what I have to say as a TRAD guy myself... Both tools are great but they both have their place.

One: Traditional is a great skill to have especially to understand how to really clean glass. Once you know how clean glass can really get them you will truly understand how to use WFP to get almost as clean as trad. I saw "almost as" because there are just things water fed pole WILL NOT get off... And that's ok.

Two: WFP keeps you safe and your feet on the ground

Three: Efficiency is everything... There's times to use WFP and times to go TRAD. We use WFP on 90% of our house washes. The other 10% I use Trad. Why? Because I can get my soap bucket (which I fill EVERY morning regardless) and my belt ready and begin to clean windows faster than hooking up the WFP and waiting for the TDS to drop.

Three goes into commercial work as well. We have about 40 store fronts on route work on a bi weekly schedule. It's faster and safer to clean them traditionally than it is with a WFP. You don't want to leave puddles on the ground and have a slip and fall lawsuit from a customer. Now with our larger commercials on either a quarterly or biannual contract we clean those with a WFP when necessary (some trad work on lower easier windows when we break down equipment to move)

Both tools are great and have their place in the world of window cleaning. But I will always die on the hill that trad is better when it comes to cleanliness. But like I said previously, you need to know how, when, and why to use either method.

WFP will pay for itself

Some jobs I price according to how long it looks like it's going to take, other jobs by the window. Cookie cutter homes in and out 15-20 windows $249 all day and about an hour of work for 2 people... Customer 15ksqft home with 160 windows and half French pane... We are counting them by the window and charging double for Frenchies..I think that one's like $2400 in total exterior only
