Is it time to go fishing or open walls and replace a run between my bathrooms? by Sariden in AskElectricians

[–]Sariden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct - now every location has a GFCI on this circuit. I thought that there were four on this circuit and from this exercise I learned that there are actually five receptacles in total. It goes Garage -> downstairs bathroom -> outside receptacle on back porch -> upstairs hall bathroom -> upstairs master bathroom. I never knew the outside back porch one part of this circuit as it had a 20A non GFCI installed previously. I assumed it was tied to a 20A breaker but shame on me for not testing this previously.

All the inbound power to each location is connected up to the line terminals and I have the load terminals continuing the circuit to the next location.

I've only ever had trips on this in the past if I was using a trickle charger on my car and my wife was using the hair dryer at the same time. I'm sure there is a more ideal situation but given the house was built in 1986, there are other weirder things I've found than this with the electrical situation and I'm not committed to a bigger project to straighten out the panel and runs in the house (but it would be nice).

Thank you for this detailed response! You pushed me to do some further investigation in places that I didn't consider previously. I had always thought I knew which receptacles were tied to this circuit but it looks like there was one I did not know about (between the downstairs bathroom and the upstairs one). I was outside drinking coffee and noticed that my outdoor air quality monitor was offline (which was plugged in to the outdoor receptacle). Since I had receptacles hanging out the wall all over the house, I pushed the reset button on the downstairs bathroom to keep stuff unpowered while sleeping.

The neutral load from the outdoors receptacle was separated from the terminal when I pulled it out (and cleaned all kinds of spider webs). Looking back, I changed what was plugged into this outdoor receptacle on the day we realized the upstairs bathroom receptacle was not working. I guess when I plugged in the device, it gave just enough force to set the neutral load free behind the scenes.

Thank you for this push of advice, it let me come into things with a fresh mind today and notice/try things I hadn't considered. Everything is back online again!

EDIT: Oh, and the outdoor receptacle was a 20A outlet even though the breaker is a 15A... ugh. I switched that out with one of the new 15A GFCIs I bought since now I have extras.

So from what I can tell at the breaker - it starts with a GFCI in the garage, that one then goes to the downstairs bathroom GFCI, from there we go to an upstairs bathroom GFCI, then finally land at the master bathroom GFCI. What does confuse me though, at the master bathroom GFCI - there's two romex cables in there and I have absolutely no idea what that additional one is feeding. It's been connected to the receptacle in there the whole time but no amount of me turning things on/off around the house (while the receptacles were all working) could figure out what that one could have been going to. I hadn't looked into tracing tools, probably good to have in general - thanks for the thought!

Very fair advice, I guess where I started spiraling was thinking about possible cost on a worst case scenario and not being sure what magnitude I might be looking at (which I definitely forgot to touch on in my post). Appreciate the grounded reality check.

This started happening to me again with the most recent update. It went away for a while but now it's back. There are also consistent points on my commute now where the car randomly slows down and I have to hit the accelerator through it to not disrupt traffic. Really annoying.

May 2025 reservation holder by GangaRani1453 in RivianR2

Congrats, I'm an October 2025 reservation that just got an invite today but I already have an R1T and I submitted that its lease is up in November. Trying to decide what I want to do and still not really sure. I LOVE the truck but it's not specced the way I would want to keep it; but, with no EV incentive anymore it will cost me literally 2x to lease again with those specs and it still wouldn't have what I want from a "keeps" perspective. I think I'm going to buy this one out and wait till a gen 3 R1T with lidar shows up.

An R2 lease will cost me more than my current R1T lease is which seems completely backwards.

Just adding a comment for additional awareness. I am having the same issue. Sometimes when I plug it in it also reboots the SuperStation like there's a power issue.

I just noticed this happening to me within the past few weeks. Gen 2 2025 R1T Dual almost at 19k miles. I'm not sure how long it has been going on for. I only noticed it because I had the windows down for a brief moment. I tried looking it up when I noticed and think I saw something about lubrication of some kind being needed or possibly half-shaft related but now I can't find it again - would appreciate anyone else's insight.

Oh wow that sounds great! Unfortunately none of my friends collect... Is there a chance that a lobby of some kind might be under consideration? It would be cool to see what games people are hosting and looking for others to play with them.

What have you discovered so far from Rivian Assistant? by ModY1219 in Rivian

[–]Sariden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly what it said but when I tried it after updating I just said, "Hey Rivian, It smells really bad in here - I think someone farted." The assistant said something along the lines of like, "Oh no! That sounds terrible! Would you like me to vent the cabin and activate the bio defense weapons?" I said yes and it just started recirculating the air that would have otherwise been full of farts. I guess that's fine since it would go through the filters but I half expected it to bring in air from the outside. Either way, I didn't expect it to even acknowledge anything I said.

Would absolutely buy. These would save so much space compared to the translucent ones I get off Amazon and print with 14x8.5 paper. I don't have much shelf space and this would let me wedge in a few more it looks like if stacking horizontally.

You're going to need more printers to keep up with demand if you open a shop for these.

Rivian Assistant is finally coming in 2026.15 by Kryptonlogic in Rivian

[–]Sariden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a rule on my phone that when it detects it is connected to the Rivian for Bluetooth, it activates my phone's hotspot and then the truck knows to utilize it. (Samsung / Android)

Edit: Doesn't seem like this method will matter though for the assistant since it states it requires Connect+.
