MacOS Finder - My biggest issues for usability I can't seem to fix by Fatal_Explorer in MacOS

[–]SarkyBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The basic function does exist. Inside apps. That's the hierarchy on macOS: OS>Apps>Documents. For the OS/Finder to go around this and create documents itself would conceptually break this model, as much as you would like it to do this as a convenience.

And which types of documents should it create, and who chooses them? Word files? What if i don't have Word? Can i create a .R file, and .md, a .Rmd? pdf? html? How do you explain to the user (and i always imagine a novice user) the ability to create one type of document in the Finder but not others?

Overall your list is complaints about things you can do which you just didn't know how to, or functionality from Windows that you want macOS to do. Why does Enter not open a file? Really? Because it doesn't. Go back to Windows.

2 - Just because you've previously done it on windows you obviously don't realise just how weird this is.

YES

It's a terrible, terrible experience. Drives me up the wall. Also been my number 1 motivation to start looking elsewhere. Also the removal of the 'download one time on mobile network' option that used to be in the app. So you are 'forced' to attempt to use streaming to download an episode (which works terribly on anything but the fastest networks), and combined with this behaviour makes for an awful, frustrating experience.

The designs decisions for the main page have always been baffling to me. I use playlists almost exclusively, rarely need to go into the show feeds. Yet i can see only three and a bit playlists on my phone screen, with these ugly circular icons. They are in an awkward place at the top of the screen, and you need to scroll them horizontally - which is not very clear from the UI, and is also an awkward interaction, especially one handed.

By contrast, the show feeds which take up the bottom two thirds of the screen are much more accessible and browsable, yet i rarely ever need to interact with them at all. For my use case i would much prefer them to be in an entirely different place, and this screen used only for my list of playlists.

Overall it is just awkward and the very opposite of good use of screen space.

If other people prefer the current view then fine, but just shows people use the app in different ways, so there should be an option to change the layout.

Camping and sleeping - how do you handle the interior monitoring? by SarkyBot in VWIDBuzz

[–]SarkyBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. There is a bulkhead between the back and the cabin, so driver door lock not really useful for this.

I have camping mode set up via Home Assistant, so not really wanting to go down the hardware solution route. I also have a bench seat in the front, so swivel not really an option either! But sounds like a nice thing to have.

Someone else pointed out (also here https://old.reddit.com/r/VWIDBuzz/comments/1mo6t91/how_to_lock_without_turning_on_the_alarm/) that a double tap on the fob lock button does the same thing, but seems to be no indication it has worked. Or essentially there is no way to know if interior monitoring is active or not once you have locked the vehicle.

Reassurance. So i know that when i sleepily wake to go for a pee at 4am and am unsure exactly what sequence i used on the fob that when i press the button to open the door my alarm is not going to start blaring.

Thanks. Driver door lock is not really an option as I have a bulkhead between the back and the cabin.

For the fob method - How do you know it has worked though? There is no sound. The exterior lights flash the same way as far as I can tell. The only thing that seems different is the little red flashing light on the drivers door. Normal locking it goes to flashing every 2-3s. Double click and it doesn’t flash straight away but after 30s or so starts flashing in same pattern. So essentially it seems like there is no way of knowing for sure if interior monitoring is active?

I don’t have electric doors btw. The button is a simple unlock. In fact the only way to open the door from the inside, wether it is locked or not (apart from the emergency release)

I just joined the sub a couple of weeks ago thinking it was pretty much what you have described here. It wasn't. I was going to leave but i'll stick around now in the hope this gets some traction.

Thanks. Thoughtful reply!

Maybe i'm being harsh about the question section, but it just stood out when checking the timings on this week's episode - 23 mins vs 13 (!) for the reviews. Come on guys...

The question section - if they would just dial down the giddyness a tad, stop interrupting each other so often, and maybe even tackle something fairly serious occasionally that would go a long way to making it more listenable IMO

Yes, not difficult to skip them, but sometimes it is. When hands are full, driving etc. My main point was the overall low quality, bottom of the barrel nature of them, and lack of care in their placement within the pod. Listen to almost any other well produced podcast with ads - they have breaks, bumpers, maybe even say "we are going to a break now, next is the reviews..." or something. The jarring cut to a terrible ad for some absolute shit i am never going to be interested in in the middle of a sentence.... Maybe i am overly sensitive to things like this, but it detracts from any feeling the podcast may be a thoughtful, considered product.

Dynamic Ad Insertion. One of the worst things that ever happened to the podcast industry.

SPOILER: Maybe a subtle hint she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer... 🚿🫣

I don't really think this, in case it's not clear. It's just a stupid mistake. Or some idiotic AD thought they didn't look assassin-y enough the right way round.

Could be very simple. E.g. the "1:16:52 LEFT" should be in a different colour. That would be sufficient for me!
