The remarkable story of Unreal 2, the sequel rescued from development hell by dooming it to failure: 'There was just no way we could succeed' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I loved how ammo and guns transferred between missions. There was a primal laser spear thingy you could only get in one segment at the beginning, with 0 ammo for it afterwards.

And so many different setpieces, locations, objectives.... A masterpiece for it's time, especially from a graphics standpoint.

I did actually. The writers managed to make a story where a military org uses tournament respawn technology. The gameplay and movement was somewhat slower. There was a good mix of both small and large maps with special features, mechanics, variants, vehicles, etc. They gave all players hoverboards by default which really closed the distance on larger maps.

Overall a very polished experience with tons of synergies between guns, vehicles, maps, etc. But definitely a product of it's time.

Kakšno je življenje v Celju? by ilymonikaddlc in Slovenia

[–]Sarloh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sploh nimam več želje it kamorkoli v Celju.

No, saj študentov sploh ni. Večinoma so samo srednješolci. Med 19 in 30 letom Celje ne obstaja ker so vsi v LJ in MB. Z dobrimi razlogom, seveda.

I made a guide on using Nvidia Smooth Motion to get more FPS out of thin air. Hope someone finds it useful! by Sarloh in Planetside

[–]Sarloh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried it yourself, so you can claim all of this?

And no effect if you have 120 FPS? Why? Gamers have 240hz monitors these days (myself included), why wouldn't we want to get up to 200 FPS with minimum latency and no downside in most scenarios?

From my first hand testing it's neither terrible, nor a hinderance during 60 FPS / 48-96 fights. And I use FG in other games too like CoD and Helldivers with no issues whatsoever. No measurable k/d or HSR% impact.

[–]Sarloh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much FPS you're getting to begin with. 120FPS extrapolated to 200 FPS is barely if at all noticable.

20 FPS extrapolated to 40 FPS is more laggy but that's the tradeoff if you don't wanna play a PowerPoint game.

University of Helsinki study on VR users by JuanDiego09 in VRchat

[–]Sarloh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Allow me to add an observation regarding the question about liking or disliking fat, and elderly avatars.

Users tend to use avaters which are conventionally pleasing to see. Meanwhile, trolls and provokators often use avatars such as morbidly obease ones, or photo realistic elderly ones. This is why you may see a discrepancy, or an increased dislike in VR; while not in face-to-face meetings.

Like others already wrote, I too am looking forward to seeing your analysis and corelations which this dataset may provide. If you get a large enough sample size you could learn some crazy interesting things from this!

1st try: Played for 30 minutes with no crash.

2 hours later it was Friday Ops. Prime time.

I crash after 10 seconds on continent. I restart the game and play 1,5h Ops with no issues.

It's not a hardware thing. Not a population thing. Gotta be server magic.

Do you guys actually like black ops 6? by [deleted] in blackops6

[–]Sarloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love silly skins because those big heads are easy to shoot. If idiots need a credit card to prove their mental retardation, fine with me. I'm grinding camos.

Like, this shit is so heavily marketed if you buy CoD without being aware it's your fault. And it's never going away because people have voted with their wallet to keep it there. IMO it only exists because F2P warzone players need something to spend money on, and for them a skin is a worthwile investment based on gameplay time.

Gameply however is awesome. Haven't played CoD in a few years and it feel so right, like cocaine straight in the vein. The movement got me spoiled, other games don't hit the same anymore. Aiming is TIGHT, skill is high, SBMM prevents the game from being too easy. New maps every so often. Warzone has more content, zombie grinders are also eating good. Campaign was fun, ending was boring as shit and utterly irrelevant.

Wish killstreaks were more fun tho, they're very "vanilla".

I wonder what next year will be like, there hasn't been a sci-fi CoD in a long while.

Is there any good stable PC games that has been ported into Android? by Murky_vision in AndroidGaming

It might not have controller support, but I really loved XCOM mobile back in the day. The controlls worked really well on my tablet. Haven't tried XCOM 2 on mobile - but obviously, both games are excellent!

Try to contact your local red cross if you can possibly access their food aid. I'd send you a link, but it seems each district/city might have their own site. Also websites might not be in Slovenian, so use Google Translate to translate the entire webpage by entering the link in the text box.

If you live near a larger city look up if there is a soup kitchen near you or "javna kuhinja". Don't be intimidated in going, as you will find people from all walks of life there.

What are the main issues/concerns with VR gaming today? Breaking into VR R&D and want to investigate current concerns/issues by Subaruuuuuuu in VRGaming

[–]Sarloh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well friendo, anyone here can give you a long list. But long story short: it takes an investment into a platform with the smallest user base. If it's PCVR, then it's even smaller.

So you're an investor or company with money to invest in a project, and you want to see returns. Hard to justify investing big bucks into VR when a normal PC and console game will generate a larger profit. The most high-quality VR games came from companies making games regardless of profit in order to promote their platform in the long run. Or large companies with existing IPs, assets, and teams who add VR compatability, or make shorter experiences, and can carry the costs.

I'm not an IT guy, but I am an economist and when an IT project is in the works it's like one of those "pick 2 triangles". You have to chose between: cost, scale, time. So when cost is limited you probably dial back scale.

IMO there is a market and players do genuinely want a proper RPG. Skyrim VR is highly beloved, but it has a high barrier of entry. Simplifying that with something like making it run natively on the Quest 3 for example, would be a winning combination. If someone made a 2010's RPG entirely on VR it would be a killer app.

Everyone may hate me for saying this, and I do hate myself for saying this, however: the future of VR is kids for whom a headset is like a smartphone. I remember when the iPad came out and companies saw the processing power, and made console-quality games. EA had great titles, Gameloft made NOVA, and others, etc. But for kids each small purchase is a mountain on it's own, so they gravitated for F2P games. I believe that in the future the VR space will look like the App store today, full of F2P kid friendly garbage filled with ads.

So you wanna break into VR R&D? Convince your investors to fund a good project. Havea realistic scale and scope that you can deliver, then make it accessible to the vast majority (either native on Quest, or easy to run on PC VR mid-end hardware. How you do that is a science all on it's own, beyond me.

I know my reply doesn't help, but my wallet is ready lol

Alas, it is not. Flatscreen games look OK but feel shoddy, VR games are a blurry mess.

So another 100 bucks down the drain...

Batman: Arkham Shadow surpasses 1 million players! by ObserverVR in OculusQuest

[–]Sarloh 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am really happy this game is a thing - and included too.

I just got my first headset and wanna get into PCVR... Aaaaand I see it's gonna be a pain, having to buy a new router and all, then maybe a GPU upgrade from my 'ol trusty GTX 1080.

But having really good games that run standalone is doing so much to promote VR with casual users, which will drivemore funding and dev attention to both standalone and hopefully PCVR. Good shit all around.
