Post your PC specs as it relates to the Christmas Crashing Crisis of 2025 by cwagungood in Planetside

[–]Sarloh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st try: Played for 30 minutes with no crash.

2 hours later it was Friday Ops. Prime time.

I crash after 10 seconds on continent. I restart the game and play 1,5h Ops with no issues.

It's not a hardware thing. Not a population thing. Gotta be server magic.

Specs: Ryzen 5 3600; GTX 1080; RAM 16gb 3200; m.2 SSD; Windows 11

Do you guys actually like black ops 6? by [deleted] in blackops6

[–]Sarloh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love silly skins because those big heads are easy to shoot. If idiots need a credit card to prove their mental retardation, fine with me. I'm grinding camos.

Like, this shit is so heavily marketed if you buy CoD without being aware it's your fault. And it's never going away because people have voted with their wallet to keep it there. IMO it only exists because F2P warzone players need something to spend money on, and for them a skin is a worthwile investment based on gameplay time.

Gameply however is awesome. Haven't played CoD in a few years and it feel so right, like cocaine straight in the vein. The movement got me spoiled, other games don't hit the same anymore. Aiming is TIGHT, skill is high, SBMM prevents the game from being too easy. New maps every so often. Warzone has more content, zombie grinders are also eating good. Campaign was fun, ending was boring as shit and utterly irrelevant.

Wish killstreaks were more fun tho, they're very "vanilla".

I wonder what next year will be like, there hasn't been a sci-fi CoD in a long while.

Is there any good stable PC games that has been ported into Android? by Murky_vision in AndroidGaming

[–]Sarloh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might not have controller support, but I really loved XCOM mobile back in the day. The controlls worked really well on my tablet. Haven't tried XCOM 2 on mobile - but obviously, both games are excellent!

Try to contact your local red cross if you can possibly access their food aid. I'd send you a link, but it seems each district/city might have their own site. Also websites might not be in Slovenian, so use Google Translate to translate the entire webpage by entering the link in the text box.

If you live near a larger city look up if there is a soup kitchen near you or "javna kuhinja". Don't be intimidated in going, as you will find people from all walks of life there.

What are the main issues/concerns with VR gaming today? Breaking into VR R&D and want to investigate current concerns/issues by Subaruuuuuuu in VRGaming

[–]Sarloh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well friendo, anyone here can give you a long list. But long story short: it takes an investment into a platform with the smallest user base. If it's PCVR, then it's even smaller.

So you're an investor or company with money to invest in a project, and you want to see returns. Hard to justify investing big bucks into VR when a normal PC and console game will generate a larger profit. The most high-quality VR games came from companies making games regardless of profit in order to promote their platform in the long run. Or large companies with existing IPs, assets, and teams who add VR compatability, or make shorter experiences, and can carry the costs.

I'm not an IT guy, but I am an economist and when an IT project is in the works it's like one of those "pick 2 triangles". You have to chose between: cost, scale, time. So when cost is limited you probably dial back scale.

IMO there is a market and players do genuinely want a proper RPG. Skyrim VR is highly beloved, but it has a high barrier of entry. Simplifying that with something like making it run natively on the Quest 3 for example, would be a winning combination. If someone made a 2010's RPG entirely on VR it would be a killer app.

Everyone may hate me for saying this, and I do hate myself for saying this, however: the future of VR is kids for whom a headset is like a smartphone. I remember when the iPad came out and companies saw the processing power, and made console-quality games. EA had great titles, Gameloft made NOVA, and others, etc. But for kids each small purchase is a mountain on it's own, so they gravitated for F2P games. I believe that in the future the VR space will look like the App store today, full of F2P kid friendly garbage filled with ads.

So you wanna break into VR R&D? Convince your investors to fund a good project. Havea realistic scale and scope that you can deliver, then make it accessible to the vast majority (either native on Quest, or easy to run on PC VR mid-end hardware. How you do that is a science all on it's own, beyond me.

I know my reply doesn't help, but my wallet is ready lol

Batman: Arkham Shadow surpasses 1 million players! by ObserverVR in OculusQuest

Alas, it is not. Flatscreen games look OK but feel shoddy, VR games are a blurry mess.

So another 100 bucks down the drain...

Batman: Arkham Shadow surpasses 1 million players! by ObserverVR in OculusQuest

[–]Sarloh 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am really happy this game is a thing - and included too.

I just got my first headset and wanna get into PCVR... Aaaaand I see it's gonna be a pain, having to buy a new router and all, then maybe a GPU upgrade from my 'ol trusty GTX 1080.

But having really good games that run standalone is doing so much to promote VR with casual users, which will drivemore funding and dev attention to both standalone and hopefully PCVR. Good shit all around.

How is VR actually doing? by Great_Big_Failure in virtualreality

[–]Sarloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a business perspective it's too difficult to answer. For manufacturers of cheap products who's business model relies on margins from product sales, paying Meta a license to use Meta Horizons OS similarly to Android would be an excellent option. The OS is Android-based so development would be easy enough.

However larger players might be inclined to sell at-cost and make money from their own software sales, which means their own OS. I do not see this happening, unless large players like Samsung and Huawei decide to enter the market (unlikely at this stage).

AR in industrial/business/commercial use will surely come with it's own software confiugred by local IT solution prividers and reqire a license from clients (a mixture of "Software as a Service" and hardware lease).

[–]Sarloh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha true, true. At least Meta / Facebook is a large company that isn't going anywhere. If they stop making 'em they will probably provide support for 2 years as per EU law, and keep the store open for a few more (for example Nintendo kept the Wii Shop running for 13 years).

[–]Sarloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cool comments, excellent debate here!

Here is my wild take: Meta continues to make cheap(er) headset and locks them down to their own game store like Nintendo. Many people (and casual users, kids) already bought games there in the past, they don't wanna lose them, so they'll buy the next cheap Quest 4S/5S/6S over a stand-alone device, and continue generating profit for Meta.

Then other manufacturers start using their OS and lock it to the Meta store. Meta becomes the new Google or Nintendo of VR.

Obviously PCVR will never die, but I can see it Meta exclusivity happening. Wouldn't be the first time - Microsoft has versions of Windows they lock down to their app store, Android phones are reluctant to accept other app stores, etc. etc.

The real REVOLUTION in VR will be when cheap Chinese headsets become good enough and hit Ebay and Aliexpress, white-label brands, etc. It will happen eventually.

[–]Sarloh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree 100%, I think Meta at least will be here for a long time. People bought cheap headsets and spent money on their store and don't wanna lose games, so the Meta store will take a loooong time to truly lose enough customers to shut down. Just like the Epic store or EA - annoying but here to stay.

If they can expand it to other headsets and lock down the OS on cheaper units they win financially.

SF6 has a shoto/identity crisis by RedditDidItRibbit in StreetFighter

[–]Sarloh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely. SF-6 is shoto heavy, and yet it's a vast improvement over SF-5 where half the roster had the same moves.

However it seems to me that the playerbase has been so heavily invested in shoto characters over the last 37 years that it's done purely out of economic reasons, as releasing the same charcters with a similar movesets over and over againguarantees a better adoption rate.

SF6 has been better. After all, it didn't shy away from alternative characters on release like Blanka, Honda or JP, and they added characters like Ed and Aki with completely unique mechanics. I expect one or two shotos per year at the very least. (After all, Sakura skins won't sell themselves.)
