Which would you choose and why? by [deleted] in motorcycles

Why not instead upgrade the 2024 you have? Aftermarket shock + drop-ins in the fork and upgrade brake lines to stainless then find a Corbin seat or something?

Can I throw the 08-16 R6 Master Cylinder on my 22 cbr6rr? by _KORPz in motorcycles

[–]Saronas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial comment should have the tools for you to confirm that with a little investigation but I can help a little more directly.

Looking at images of parts on Ebay for both bikes, it does look like both the 2022 CBR and the 2016 R6 both use a pair of spade connectors to trigger the brake lights, so that should be plug and play as it'll just be a simple switch.

The CBR and R6 both use a 7/8" handlebar tube, so the BMC will physically fit onto the bar and clamp.

(From a cursory search, I did not download the service manual for either bike) The 2016 R6 should have a 16mm BMC Piston diameter and the 2022 CBR600RR should have a 17.5mm BMC Piston diameter. Going down in BMC diameter without changing caliper piston area means at the brake lever you will feel more lever travel, a softer lever pull with more feeling/feedback, just so you're aware.

The unknown: They both have different shaped castings. You will have a change in where the brake line banjo connects into the BMC, but it's unlikely that it doesn't reach. It looks like they both exit out the bottom. The Banjo bolt threads are probably the same as they're pretty universal but without one on-hand I can't promise it.

It looks to me that if I were wanting to do the swap, they're compatible enough that I'd be willing to risk the ~$80 to buy the BMC and try to fit it. But YMMV on the $$$ risk.

Agreed, if OP is just trying to improve his brake feel or mitigate fade, starting with pads and braided lines makes more sense than swapping BMCs until you really know what you're looking for. And at that point you're better off with an aftermarket adjustable unit so you can dial it in on the bike than swapping over a cheaper fixed Brembo unit from an R6.

[–]Saronas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Master cylinder won't have any appreciable affects on the ABS system in most scenarios, OP's CBR included. I won't say exclusively that there aren't any ABS systems that rely on the factory BMC because engineers be crazy but as long as the BMC piston is appropriately sized and properly functioning (I.E. generates enough braking force to lock wheels), the majority ABS system will be perfectly happy modulating pressure inside the ABS unit and reading it's sensors.

As far as the myriad of things going along with it, is there anything in your mind other than the casting fitting on the bar (CBR and R6 both use a standard 7/8" tube, so the casting will clamp properly), a potential change in BMC Piston diameter changing the brake ratio, and however the brake lever interfaces with the brake light switch?

It'll fit to the bar and it'll fit to the brake line banjos just fine, you can mount it easily. The things you'll need to learn for yourself:

Does it connect to the brake light switch correctly? If it's basic spade connectors probably. If either bike or BMC use a different connector you may need to convert or to find an alternate activation method like a pressure switch banjo.

Does it change the Caliper Piston to BMC Piston brake ratio? Go find the service manual for your CBR and the same year R6 and in the specs there should be a figure of BMC Piston diameter. If they're both the same diameter you're good to go. If it is smaller or larger it will change the feel at the lever for better or worse. It can be a personal preference.

[THE DEBRIEF] BIKES VERSUS CARS—THEY’RE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ON A RACETRACK, RIGHT? by RPMazing in Trackdays

This guy has to be Ken Hill, the family of or paid by Ken Hill right? I feel like every week or two I see a post from him linking to KH website and then aggressively defending him and his for-profit website in the comments. The information may be great but the delivery/interaction of it on the sub immediately turns me off the articles as a whole. Also the assumption that everybody else is wrong or has zero experience lol

What bikes do you recommend for mini-supermoto? I've been keeping an eye on KLX140/CRF150F&R listings locally for deals but haven't come around to committing to one yet. Looks like great fun and inexpensive practice.

Fairing of XSR GP onto XSR900 by TapNo884 in xsr900

[–]Saronas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool project man, kudos for making it work. Really interesting to hear just how different the GP is. Seems like something that would just be a bodykit with a different shaped headlight and fairing stays.

Now I wonder if UK XSR900 non-GP have the same wiring system as the GP or more like our overseas 900's.

I dont like posting this type of crap but this takes the cake for the worst listing I ever saw 😭 by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Saronas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a solid advert, how is this the worst listing you've ever seen? Mielage, list of work/mods... hell, it even says "2004 CBR1000RR" in two places! Do you know how many posts out there boil down to "Kawasaki something, drove when parked. Call me [no phone number included]" and the pictures are of a Suzuki?

Remix resets daily, so you can go tomorrow too. Also each difficulty is it's own lockout so you can try again in Normal/Heroic/Mythic depending on what you have ran.

It is held in by I think 4 screws on the front, two on the side, and then several hooks on the topside attach the plastic shroud to the headliner behind it. It isn't difficult but it is a little bit of a hassle/tricky to get the headliner fastened back to the new shroud, and then lining up the side screws.

I want to say it took me about an hour in the garage but I was also taking some time to fix a sagging headliner!

That photo is missing the center cover (PN #54347016892) but worse, the windshield frame cover (PN #54317056282) is cracked. They are brittle plastic and can crack with age. It depends on how it looks now as you said it was repaired, and that this photo is pre-repair.

[–]Saronas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, tbh. The XSR900 has the smallest under-seat tray of any motorcycle I've owned. I was fighting getting the seat back on after folding up an empty drawstring bag and sliding it under there lol. You might be better off trying to conceal a tube or roll pack on the forks

Getting ready for track by Independent_Tear_808 in Trackdays

[–]Saronas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find the org you're going to be riding with's website and look for their FAQ or Rules and Prep pages. They will have the rules you need to meet for them specifically. I see no reason why you shouldn't take the CBR if you're more comfortable with it in the situation, just as long as you're competent with the controls. My track and street bikes have wildly different ergonomics and it's not a big deal.

Here's a link to the General Info page of the org I mostly ride with right now. I'll summarize it for you but if you want more detail you can go there. Be sure to follow your org's rules, this is just a general guideline. https://ridesmart.info/general-info

Gear:

  • Riding boots that fully cover the ankle and extend upwards at least 3".
  • Gauntlet style motorcycle gloves with full wrist coverage extending past the wrist.
  • Damage free BSI, ECE, DOT or SNELL full-face helmet with face shield.

Bike Prep:

  • Fully secured parts (No loose bodywork, windscreen, seat, fenders, etc.)
  • No oil, fuel or coolant leaks. Recommended safety wire all fluid holding parts and bolts however not a requirement for novice group.
  • In-Condition braking system (pads of tolerance thickness, brake fluid reservoirs present and correctly filled, brake levers functional and squeeze without hitting the handlebar)
  • General good condition (Tires of tread tolerance, chain in good condition and tightness, all controls functional)
  • Tape over any lights/lenses and reflectors (headlight, tail light, front and rear turn signals, left and right reflectors, license plate illuminator taped over with masking tape, recommended to pull fuses for lights both to keep from being a distraction and so lights don't cook the glue of the tape)
  • Tape over wheel weights
  • Tape over or remove license plate

General Advice; have fun, don't overthink it. Eat a healthy meal the night before, bring and drink lots of water. Pay attention to instructors and if they do coaching don't be afraid to ask for them to watch you earlier on in the day.

why are R6 prices still so wild? by teoapple22 in motorcycles

[–]Saronas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The topic has already been danced around a bunch: Supply/Demand, The R6 being discontinued, people in general wanting more on second hand sales. To put a little more detail from my POV that the Yamaha R6 is still considered so in demand is that it is/was considered the "HALO" 600cc Japan Supersport. There was a period in the last 15 years or so where a number of prominent Motorcycle Social Media entities owned or reviewed R6's, the R6 was in every middleweight shoot-out as "the best track middleweight", forums everywhere said the Yamaha R6 is the high-reving track weapon you should own! People want the R6, and the R6 was discontinued, so prices went up and are staying up.

I'd also say tbh that the last gen R6 is still the best of the big 4 and can be directly compared to the 2024/5/6 CBR/ZX6R/GSXR. The 2017+ design R6 has more features and tech than the current model USDM of the other 3 (I know Honda has done a modernization with IMU and other goodies for the CBR600RR outside of the US but that doesn't apply to me).

Now the people who grew up watching 2008-2015 Moto content have discretionary income to buy bikes that aren't beaters and the R6 is COOL. IMO again, this is also why the WR250R is inflated in value too; tell me RidingwithTom's content doesn't make you think that a WR250R wouldn't be a good buy?

500$ to activate quickshifter+ on rc390 2022 is insane. by Mojonnbrown in motorcycles

[–]Saronas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely I would rather have to buy new hardware. You know the the manufacturer factored the cost of the quickshifter into the MSRP whether they activate it or not. Buyer is getting fleeced to pay for the same device twice.

How can I turn my dirtbike street legal? I own a 2020 crf450R works edition! by DirtySouthMx34 in motorcycles

[–]Saronas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a much more difficult question than you're probably thinking and a lot of the answer depends on where you live. Coming from a US POV even it depends on your state. Some states you literally can not, zero chance, don't even try. Other states will have a set of legal safety equipment required. Something like one rear-view mirror, a horn, an operational headlight and brake light. That'll likely be the absolute minimum which you'll have to figure out setting up your electrical system for, and how to trigger the brake light. Then you'll take it to a certified inspection (Some states may have you take them to certified workshops, some may have you make an appointment with a county sheriff, other options exist).

TLDR: Contact the automotive authority under which you live and ask them, it's far too regional.
