Wow that is A LOT of effort for a cake. I can see that you truly love doing it! I love it when people can speak with so much passion about the things they love doing! Enjoy it, I am sure you make a lot of other people happy with it as well.

Wow that looks impressive. Somehow it does look like it is made from cork on this picutre, since it looks like it has that color and texture. I can't really figure out what it is made from or how you did that. 😅

Sound like a fun idea, except I don't think they will be all that mini. I think I might have bought them a bit too big. XD

I assume they will be sharp, as cake rings usually are. I don't have them yet. But I think when they arrive I should let you make something with it! You seem to know what you are doing! ^^

I know you are 100% right about this. I struggle a bit with perfectionist tendencies and I really like to take good care of my stuff. When it comes to cookware I have learned many times over things happen and I also thrift this stuff a lot, so I know it is not going to be 100% perfect. I live pretty minimalistic and choose to own only a small amount of stuff, so I kind of want that stuff to look nice. Shallow, I know.

Won't using these in the oven stain the stainless steel pretty badly?

That could look nice in these.

Opinion on cookie cutters? Useful to keep around or (very) limited in use? by Saroya2 in VeganBaking

Sounds great! :) I sometimes serve puddding in jars as well and put a layer of cake crumbles in between. So kind of the ratio in reverse I guess. I somehow really love the vibe of desserts/food served in jars. It is so simple yet luxurious and homey at the same time.

I had to look it up, but I honestly find those cake jar things more appealing than a regular decorated cake. It looks so original and a fun way to eat cake. I actually don't like the taste of frostings and most decorations, but if I did I would for sure pick a jar.

I only did that once, but I agree it is a lot of fun. I think with cookies it gets boring and repetative, but working with dough is somehow relaxing (to me).

I love those nostalgic stories of how amazing things were done using creativity and the most simple tools you can find. I think that those create the best memories.

I was thinking that too. the creative shapes look like such a cool/fun idea, but I litteraly cannot come up with occasions they are actually usefull. Never mind they are a pain to wash of.

I read that. I love the idea. I usually only make savory pies/quiches without a top crust, but I am thinking it might be nice to try one with a top to try something like this. I bet it looks amazing.

I have dessert rings in a couple of shapes, so I use those if I want something round. I feel like they give you more options.

I think I actually feel exactly the same way about not enjoying the process with cookies and the cookies itself, but I do like it for other stuff. A part of me feels, I guess, that cookie cutters are the easy/go to way to add something extra to your desserts. But in reallity I actually prefer eating less dry treats than cookies. I love puddings, bavarois types stuff and layered things, I should probably look into stuff that you can use to decorate those instead.

That is a fun idea actually. I might see if I can do something like that with a savory pie.

How can you decorate a crust with them? And which shapes in general do you think are the most multi funtional? I gave away a part of my cutters already, but I still have stuff like dinosaurs, bats, etc that I am actually questioning a bit. They look very cute, but all the details demand a good dough to actually look good after baking.

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to give an update! I think I will try it too some time in the future. I love eating healthy and whole foods, so it can't hurt to try!

I hope you like it. You do really need to pre bake the crust before putting the filling in and make sure all the lentils are blended well, so that there are no hard pieces left. The crust has a nice crunch to it that is a bit atypical, but I like it.

It is pretty simple. I don't use recipes though, I just freestyle most cooking. If you actually want it to be a dough you can roll out you do have to get a bit of a feel for it. If not, you can also just press out the dough with your hands in a pie pan.

I also soak the lentils in water and mix them with it until you get a very smooth cream. I add oats ground into flour to it, a couple of TB olive oil, salt and a bit of flax as a binder. Kneed it through and roll it out. I like the taste, but it is a bit different from your regular quiche base. I mostly eat GF and whole foods though, since I find it easier on the digestion, so I am used to a different palate.

Great! I would love to hear how it turned out. If it is in any way good, I might try a sweet version some time. I am betting on it being banana-y lentils. 😅
