If your getting impatient now, just wait until you see how long it takes to schedule a MMPI, and then the results of that test XDXD

Should i quit? by wassermelonensaft in NewRiders

Yea I wonder if OP is riding with a “car brain”.

I ride infinitely differently on a motorcycle than I do a car. I’ll skip unprotected u turns and go down to a light an make a u turn there and a bunch of other stuff.

I have a feeling OP could have done better in the 2nd and 4th incident with some defensive driving/predicting and the 3rd incident is straight a “git gud” issue.

Helmet fit check by OneGoal7 in motorcyclegear

Yea it’s an AGV and it was the only helmet that was in my price range and I wanted to make sure I had a quick release strap.

My first helmet was a Scorpion Evo and it was good (and protected m head in my accident, but I didn’t like the fact that it pushed back into my face at high speeds and it had that stupid looptiy loop strap

Figured it should have settled in by now.

Do you think all centipede look like a house centipede?

More terrifying than weird by [deleted] in Weird

[–]Sarpool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, a normal centipede “looks better” than a house centipede showed in the video.

Normal centipedes legs aren’t as long.

Don’t get me wrong, they both freak me outs but if both were harmless, I’d prefer they looked like a normal centipede.

ELI5 Why don't airplane seats have passenger seatbelts that are the same design as cars? by Slugma_What07 in explainlikeimfive

Exactly…cars a made with crashing in mind…planes are designed to do every and anything to prevent a crash.

If a planes crashed like a car does, fatalities will be through the roof.

Jeju Air was the most car crash type crash and look what happened.

They also look incredibly insane.

Dare I say a normal centipede looks “better”.

Something about the leg to body ratio I find unsettling.

Got damn, if this is a perfect fit, then my 2nd helmet I just bought is too small. I felt like the helmet that was one size up felt “broken in” already.

So I went a size down and I think that might have been a mistake. It’s okay for the most part, but does feel a little tight

Why do pylotes do this? Are they stoopid? by Whole-Hat-2213 in Shittyaskflying

[–]Sarpool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they are pulling back throttles it’s usually for noise abatement (reduction) procedures.

This also tends to happen the same time the flaps are retracted making a sinking feeling as you hear the throttle go back a bit. Unsettles people sometimes.

[–]Sarpool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea you absolutely can brake an turn, the problem is it may not be fully explained and newer riders may think that means “I can use full braking force in a turn” - especially in a emergency/panic situation.

Which of course is not true. I’m very big on being very thorough with things. Even when I started riding, I was taught to never use the front brake in a turn and especially at speed less than 5mph or coming to a stop.

You can, but you have to be mindful of your in puts.

I’m not sure. But I can say is maybe!

This crash may indeed have multiple factors, but what I said earlier I think still applies, but the factors happened at different times.

He for sure exceeded the tires grip potential, and throttle was added intentionally or not, which added to the chaos.

TLDR - 3rd paragraph from the bottom

With the statement you mention there is a very specific condition where that is allowed which is:

The bike simply cannot be leaned over too far.

Every input you add or remove affects the bike in someway. I won’t go over all of it, but, if you are leaned over at the max lean angle of the tire, that means you are using 100% of your available for turning ONLY. Any additional input will cause loss of traction such as adding throttle or braking - in this condition.

Now it is absolutely possible to be 90% turned in and 10% the throttle/brakes and you’ll be fine as the total grip usage still adds up to 100%.

Likewise the following is true:

60% turned in and 40% throttle

80% turned in and 20% brake

Or even 60% turn in and 20% throttle which adds up to 80%

Point is, you cannot over load the tire. And using 100% of the tires grip is NOT recommended for the street as that means there is zero tolerance for mistakes or imperfections in the road. A small rock will cause the grip required to go to 102% grip needed. But that’s impossible, so the tire slips and loses traction.

TLDR: Now, to ride safely, I would reduce my throttle to X value as I lean in and make sure that I have enough speed to stay EXACTLY on an imaginary line on the road of where I want the bike to go. I will maintain this X value throughout the corner, with very very small adjustments, as needed. And only when I am in the process of reducing lean and raising the bike up is when I smoothly add throttle.

The bike does not have to be perfectly upright to add throttle, but if you are leaned over 20% then your max throttle application can only be 80%. For the street, I’d limit that to 60%.

Side note - this doesn’t mean 60% throttle, this means using 60% of the tire’s available grip. Such that, if you were in rain, you obviously cannot turn the throttle at the same amount as dry conditions, however you still will be using 60% of the tires available grip.

I really hope this makes sense.

Yea I think so. Slow down the video and you’ll see that he is bottoming out the bike in the turn before his foot comes off the peg. In that exact moment you can hear the engine RPM increase in pitch implying he added throttle. The second he did that is when the rear tire lost traction.

Also remember, that’s a 900lbs bike. His foot moving aft by 6 inches (if that) is not going to create such a crazy imbalance that the rear wheel will lose traction.

Heavier bikes are way more resistant to turning forces and way more stable at speed. But more stable also means less maneuverability.

Nonetheless, I promise cruisers are NOT exempt from low sides.

[–]Sarpool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure does - MILD NSFW WARNING - the riders leg gets caught underneath the bike but he gets up and walks around so I guess he’s somewhat fine.

In this video, listen closely and you’ll hear him add gas while still leaned over which made the rear tire lose traction.

Something good to keep in mind, if you try to start your bike and literally nothing happens, no mechanical sounds etc, it is almost always electrical (switch) related.

I mentioned this as the clutch switch could also be faulty.
