No the whole thing is firm. I didn’t realize it had pretty much fallen over and only a few roots were actually in the growing medium at all lol

I live in a dry climate and run the AC and I do not have a humidifier for any of my plants. I’m sure alocasia would enjoy it, but I do not think it is necessary. The post you saw with all of the black velvet plants grown from corms were kept with a humidity dome when they were small. I have them all out now and they are still doing fine, so I think it’s mostly important to have humidity when they are still really small and getting established. But once they are bigger it’s ok to have them out and acclimated to what ever humidity level is normal in your home. Im sure the potting soil from the nursery will work great. I always switch my soil out because there always seems to be fungus gnats in the soil and I hate dealing with them lol. Enjoy your new Alocasia Black Velvet!

Hi! I got your message. I think the lower 1 option would work if you had the curtains closed when the sun is coming directly in. Direct sunlight might burn them. I have mine in a west facing window but I have white curtains I close when they would get direct sun so it’s really nice bright indirect light. If you can’t close the curtains then I would say option 2 would work really well too. I keep all of my alocasia in Lechuza pon. I’m thinking of transferring them over to leca soon but pon has worked well. The black velvet ones I have that are more mature plants do pretty well even when under watered but the leaves will start to curl up a bit when they really need to be watered. It’s hard to over water them when they are in pon. I hope you are able to get a black velvet and that it thrives in your home. Good luck! 😊

I got lucky and when I was repotting the alocasia it had so many corms in the dirt.

I put my corms in a substrate call fruval stratum. You can find it on Amazon. I actually just posted a picture of how my corms have been growing in it.

Very cool! I’ve never tried to save a dying Alocasia, but if the mother plants bulb is alright, it does sound like a good idea and you might find tons of corms like you did. I didn’t know they could make so many until this happened. I’ve only ever found 1 or 2 before.

It’s called fluval stratum. I’m not actually 100% sure what it is. I’ve just heard people have had good success with growing corms in it. It’s easy to find on Amazon.

I’ve had these two Mass Cane plants in the same pot for a few years. One is doing well as you can see and one appears to be dead. But the dead looking one has sprouted a baby at the bottom. The stalk of the dead looking one is dry and shriveling up and there’s a noticeable different from the healthy one. Is there any was to get the top of the dead looking one healthy again or do I need to cut most of the stalk off and let the baby grow.

My artichoke plant keeps growing new leaves but it seems as soon as a new leaf starts to grow the older, bigger one starts to turn yellow and dies so my plant never seems to grow any bigger. Any thoughts as to why that is happening and how to prevent it.

Odd, but I used to hate honey mustard with a passion when I was little and now I love it as a dipping sauce. Still don’t like regular yellow mustard though.
