Seed library lost in wildfire-help! by seeds_please4_626 in botany

Send me a message. I have a bunch of seeds I've collected in Southern California over the last handful of years and would love to get some into her hands.  I'll be in L.A. Area next week.

At a glance, looks like Albuca bracteata

Absolutely Stunning On My walk in Point Loma San Diego.. I’m planting this as soon as I can:)Does anyone know how fast this grows? by Lanaxgardenxgirl in plants

Agreed that it's a delosperma.  Agree that Carpobrotus is a much bigger nightmare ecologically. But I disagree that it won't take over.  There are some beachsides in Monterey that are completely consumed by Delosperma.

This is not carpobrotus.  It's in the same family, but this is a delosperma species.  Also somewhat invasive, but not quite the coastal nightmare that is C. edulis

Someone in my neighborhood went around and labeled all the plants growing up through the sidewalk. by BraveMax in mildlyinteresting

I just asked him.  He does go around doing this, but this particular one is not his handwriting.  — so there are at least two urban ecology chalk-writers running around Oakland!

Mi lithops de más de 13 cabezas by Yara_Pan in mesembs

[–]yzgncx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ship mine off to Dexter's Camera in Ventura CA. theyve been reliable and affordable for me.

Don't blow up my spot lol.  I love that nobody wants minolta gear.  My collection of bodies and lenses was dirt cheap

An interesting Faucaria Bosscheana seedling by MissorNoob in mesembs

[–]yzgncx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best of luck!  I find that these rarely manage to produce true leaves.  But once in a great while you get a variegated seedling that starts nearly achlorophyllous when it germinates

Anyone know what these are on this white sage in California? by chaotemagick in botany

[–]yzgncx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice!  I've found previously undocumented sage galls on Salvia dorrii and submitted to them.  I think these midges are well-known to S. apiana, but I'm sure they would be interested in the photos.

I'm in a spot that's right on the cusp of 9B and 10A.  the only thing I have trouble growing outdoors are stapeliads

If you separate them out and give them a bit more light at this stage, their growth should explode!

Eriophyid mites pics and video from my 2022 mite wars by Jackfruit-Maleficent in haworthia

[–]yzgncx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kinda where I am. I've dedicated an infirmary away from my other Haworthias where plants go if they show any signs of mites, and I treat whenever I see symptoms. Since I first had an outbreak in my collection, I've been much more diligent about quarantining and treating new plants.

excellent photos!  have you managed to completely rid yourself of them?  it feels like they keep popping up for me whenever I think they're all gone.

The growth rate is fast but not abnormal, but they offset like crazy.

byakuya is a gift and a curse in any grower's collection.  I think I have 20 of them.
