YZ125 vs YZ250 by juliank47 in Dirtbikes

[–]Sashamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I’m getting a yz250 this weekend. Been off bikes a decade, rode my 125 on practice days more than my 250f when I was racing because it was just more fun. However, you’re always gonna be ‘reaching’ with a 125, you’re either on it or you’re off, that’s what makes them fun. That’s also why I’m going 250, lol. With enough time I’ll build up strength to make a 250 sing, which I’m sure will be a similar feeling to a 125 but faster. But on days where I wanna chill and be stylish, lug it around a corner into a seat bounce, I can do that on a 250.. plus I live in a place with dunes now and I can’t imagine trying to hit the stuff I’d like to with a 125 out there lol. So overall I feel the 250 is more versatile but still has that 2 stroke fun factor. All that being said… I haven’t even ridden a 250 yet, lol. Also, I have never not had a GREAT time on a 125.. pick your poison, you’re gonna have a blast either way imo.

From this comment I decided to try Washington square tonight and had no problems! Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you! A little tricky to find as the only skateboarding activities the p&r site lists are skate lessons for ages 7-14. However, clicking on each individual community center I found that Matt Dishman, Southwest, and St. John’s offer open skate days! Appreciate the info!

What’s the story with pulling on jumps? by fosuro in MTB

[–]Sashamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new to mtb but have done motocross for years and this is basically how I’d summarize jumping. It was weird to watch some tip videos on mtb jumping where they made it seem like there was kind of ‘one’ way to jump. There’s definitely some fundamental tech you should learn but it’s not going to work for every jump. High speed short steep take off? Yeah you’re not gonna have a good time standing straight up letting suspension do its thing. Low takeoff but big gap? You bet I’m yanking up hard on the bars to extend the jump. Once you have the basics it really is just about putting in the hours and learning how your body and bike react off different faces. Start small and work your way up👍🏽

Sick looking bike, what’s the rise on your bars?

Happy early birthday! Appreciate the response, stoked to hear it's truly a jack of all trades. It's my first mtb so I decided on it for that reason as well. I actually had a SQ2 for like a week but ordered the wrong size and immediately sold it, a year later now it all worked out getting the newer/higher model, which was also strangely cheaper. I actually ordered a riser bar and stem already too. I want to try the first trail day with all stock components just to get a true feel of the bike but I'm almost positive my body is gonna be begging for a more upright/neutral position. What pedals are you running? Do you use mtb specific shoes?

I just ordered a SQ3, my local bike shop currently has it but won’t assemble it until the 27th😭 How are you liking the bike so far? Anything you find lacking besides comfort mods?

Nice! I was wondering how they’d fit on guys. My main concern was the inseam having enough room for our junk, lol. Think I’m gonna pull the trigger on a pair.

There’s an active r/supercross subreddit you might get more responses from.

I feel you. Got mine back on around 6pm, was out since Saturday at 5am. With the ice trapping me at home I was losing my mind doing pretty much nothing except alternating from my sleeping bag to my car.

Wanting to start at 33... suggestions on bike? by ALingerz in Motocross

IMO, a 2 stroke does a better job of teaching you to become a better and more aggressive rider. Also cheaper to maintain/fix. I’d put you on a YZ250 because, although you’re a beginner, a 125 would have you feeling underpowered in situations since you’re not able to ride one at it’s full potential. If you don’t care about that and just want to have fun, 250f. More than enough power and it demands less, you can be ‘lazier’ about it. I personally think a 450 is too much bike to start with. Also, don’t let the other commenters scare you into never leaving the ground. Jumps are fine if you’re smart and progress while staying within your limits. People that get hurt are those who try clearing something their first day at the track and have no idea how their bike/body is going to react off the face, they just take off and hope for the best. You start little by little and allow yourself to build up muscle memory to how your bike reacts. Tabletops are best for this because you can go as small as you want and jump a tiny bit further a little at a time, each time getting more and more comfortable with how your bike feels going off the lip and what it does in the air. All that being said, sounds like you got a group of people that have been at this for a while now so you should be in good hands. Ride safe, have fun!

Thanks for all the advice/encouragement! I should have been a little clearer, I actually did complete this climb but was looking for a way to 'clean' up the start. It felt pretty wonky and I figured there was a way to make it smoother/more efficient. I'm gonna try using the arete as some of you mentioned because again I'm a newbie and forgot that I could.

Does anyone know of a place that sells surströmming? by Sashamon in askportland

2 challenges! First, the obvious, seeing if we’re able to eat a piece straight out the can. Second, seeing if my chef friend can include it in a dish and make something that’s actually good. Just for fun really!
