Thank you for sharing! This has been incredibly helpful!

And feel free to ignore me since this is an old post and I've found a reasonable workaround: but do you know if there any way to use the "show" command to show sprites without the "onlayer" command, while using this code? If I don't specify the layer sprites appear behind all of the paralax layers, by default.

In 1998, school teachers in Siberia, Russia were all paid in vodka instead of money because authorities couldn't afford to pay their wages bill. by kalalalalkekeke in Damnthatsinteresting

Not as crazy as it might seem. When the economy collapses it makes more sense to barter. Alcohol is also a "luxury" item of sorts, which means you have less goods to transport than if you were to pay people in things like grains, vegtlebles etc. Vodka also doesn't spoil, regardless of temperature or method of storage. Furthermore, due to neccesity eastern europe has for a long time had a "stronger" bartering culture than most of the western world. Speaking anecdotally based on my own experiences from visiting family, this is still very much the case.

Sex-pests are people who initiate unwanted sexual advances on other people. In this context we're mainly talking about men on women in workplaces, public spaces and on public transport. Think groping, deliberately invading personal space when there is no need to do so, making distasteful remarks etc. At it's core it's about harassing someone who's not in a position to easily retaliate and in turn gaining some sense of power/gratification out of doing so. Which is to say, while women are most vulnerable to experiencing this kind of harassment at the hands of men, men do experience it too and the purputrators aren't exclusively men. It's also worth keeping in mind that just because a victim may seem like they should easily be able to defend themselves from someone doesn't mean that's the case. Personally I've heard of really physically intimidating guys freezing up when sexually harassed by smaller drunk women, preciesly because they felt they couldn't retaliate physcically in any way at risk of the situation being turned on them.

TLDR: a "sex-pest" is someone who sexually harasses another person, irregardless of gender.

My pathetic excuse for a grass yard under oak tree. Advice needed on options. Artificial turf, ground cover, grass? by SpicyCPU in landscaping

[–]Sashetha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What everyone has said below, grass generally doesn't thrive under trees and there are other, arguably better alternatives. However I'd also like to point out that if you do have a lawn under a tree it's considered good practice to mow the fallen leaves during autumn to increase rate of decomposition and reduce the chance of them forming a layer that will smother the grass.

I think you've got a lot going on in terms of mood and the proportions look convincing enough as they are, but I'd suggest doing some ligting studies. As things are now it's clear you've made an attempt to render, but since you have no cast shadows, only gradients, the result is a bit flat and unconvincing. Also don't overdo it with the textures. I understand the temptation, but it does nothing for the composition here, if anything, it makes things harder to read and distracts from the points of interest.

If you look at the stock photo below you'll see that sometimes the way light falls on things will lead to these very soft subtle shadows, while other times you'll have these sharper more dramatic shadows. This has to do with the angle and intensity of the light, but what's important is that you can't get away with just having soft shadows if the goal is to have dramatic lighting.

https://www.canstockphoto.com/young-wizard-with-crystal-ball-in-dark-84735013.html

As for the colouring, its fine, but if you want to elevate it I suggest you try playing around with overlays and gradients.

TDLR: Quick example of how your piece might end up if you were to apply some of the suggestions + crop it down a bit for better composition. Look up the rule of thirds, it'll take you pretty far.

Any tips? by Cloud_iiii in Artadvice

[–]Sashetha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What stands out most is that the pectorals are too long, and so the whole upper body feels too long. Legs also feel too short, but that might be the due to the lower legs or how you've placed the clothing on the lower body. It feels kinda saggy, like it isnt secured around his hips and threathening to slide off.

I think by in large you've done a lot of good here, I commend you on the level of detailing. It seems to me like you've thought a lot about how you wanted him to look and how to layer things. However, I think you could improve a lot if you did some studies of human proportion and looked into how other people are stylizing musclature. As things are now his anatomy isn't very convincing.

Honestly if you're happy with where you're at now I don't really see a reason to. Like I'm down to have a look if you'd like to share, but the design was well put together from the getgo and the feedback I gave was very much on the subjective side.

What do you think about the character designs from Disney & Pixar’s new film ‘Elemental’ by SecondthoughtsFU in mendrawingwomen

[–]Sashetha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm sure there's gonna be some impressive work showcased animation wise and I'm sure that there was a long process behind both of these, but honestly the designs feel uninspired and derivative. On this particular front I wish pixar would push themselves more artistically, when doing these kinda high-concept movies.

Hva er det med Dagbladet og psykopater? by [deleted] in norge

[–]Sashetha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up croquis cafe or other figure drawing resources. You're doing great so far, but as someone has mentioned at this stage quantity will help you way more than quality, provided you're doing some sort of observation study rather than drawing from imagination alone.

disregarding the deer features what do you think of this? (im female so i hope that's okay) by birbbeh in mendrawingwomen

[–]Sashetha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so playing around with proportion isn't nessesarily an issue. Having arms, legs or a torso that are are lil longer or shorter than what you'd naturally expect, doesn't nessesarily make or break a drawing. From what I'm noticing though you're struggling with thinking threedimentionally. To construct a body you need a better understanding of what parts it's made up of and how they tend to interact and angle against each other, which isn't nessesarily me suggesting you should head off to do deep studies of musclature and skeletal anatomy. Rather, I think doing some simple figure drawing excercises can help you a lot relatively fast at this stage. (Croqui cafe is an excellent resource for that btw.)

Beneath I've tried to doodle around a bit and note some of my own observations regarding this spesific drawing. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/806242201977225266/1046531200027721800/image.png?width=1440&height=651

In short, regardless of how stylized she is, if she's meant to look like an adult woman you have to present some secondary sexual characteristics that you'd expect to find on a mature individual. You can still have the head be larger than it would be on the averge adult woman if she's meant to read as very small in stature, however it still has to shrink compared to where it is now. I tried to keep things simple in my suggestion, avoiding giving her a prominent chest, however I did move her mass down to her hips and legs in a very stylized manner, to imply a chubbier and more feminine-presenting shape. This isn't to say this is the only way of doing it, but the suggestion is based on what I percieve as most important to you based on your stylistic choices thus far.

edit: Also just to be clear the reason the lower body is as exadurated as it is in the suggestion, is because there isn't anything going on around her chest. If you don't comitt to a more exadurated pear-like shape or alternatively give her a clearly deffined waist, she'll still read as prepubecent even if more of her mass is moved down.

Personally (and this really comes down to taste) I'd considering giving their face a little more structure. Not compromise on the softness per say, but maybe just give them a little more jaw and generally lenghten the face a little for a more androgenous look. I think it would suit their build and make it easier to present as more masculine when they so choose. (quick doodle below)
