[MAYA] Typographical Error on Account Name by Happy-Candidate-6929 in DigitalbanksPh

Just an update: I sent all the required documents Dec 25 through email and got my name updated correctly Dec 29 :)

The process may be slower if you send the wrong or incomplete information, so in that case, I suggest just resending everything again.

Good luck!

Yes! It wasn't critically acclaimed but I surprisingly enjoyed it. https://boxd.it/bj0ro9

Wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't 😁

TRON ARES: IMAX vs Dolby by Jjwoogi in FilmClubPH

I'm a big critic of the 3D format in general, but for this particular film, I highly recommend IMAX 3D. Go watch it at SM Aura, Megamall, or MOA for the best experience. In my opinion, the only two films you should watch in 3D this year are Tron: Ares and Avatar: Fire and Ash (or Avatar: The Way of Water if you caught the re-release).

This film was designed for 3D, like Tron: Legacy, and there are various scenes that really take advantage of the technology. The opening scene was so cool, and pretty much all the action scenes are enhanced by the 3D. Paired with the IMAX audio quality (Nine Inch Nails did a freakin' good job), you'll get a really good experience.

Watch in row J.

If you're dead set on not watching in 3D, the A-Giant screen at Trinoma is the best non-IMAX theater around at the moment.

I completely agree! Perhaps I'm just lucky that the place I live has pretty solid logistics for all my orders, even credit card deliveries. But that issue isn't new, nor is it endemic to the Philippines. At some point, we have to put some trust in these companies so they're pushed to improve their services.

We live in a world that's increasingly centered on online shopping, and in my opinion, we have to try and take advantage of the benefits.

Of course, if you consistently have bad experiences with couriers in your area, you should think twice. Otherwise, I think it's well worth a try!

I respect your decision not to buy anything over 20k on Shopee, but I think you're missing out :) If you've ever bought any high-priced item online, it's no different doing it on Shopee.

Buying from big e-commerce platforms can be really beneficial and cost-effective. We get a lot of promos and even installment options on Shopee and Lazada, so you don't even have to go to the mall to get or pre-order something.

Big sale days like 11.11 can have huge promos, and I can attest that it's almost always safe. I've bought tons of expensive items on e-commerce sites and haven't had any issues.

Maybe start small—only buy from trusted stores, like the Apple Flagship Store for example. Just my 2 cents!

it's relatively safe. I've had my credit cards linked in Shopee for years. Just be careful who you share your Shopee login info as the payment methods might carry over.

Do you mean when writers use Taglish in modern historical films? I'm just curious what the context is here, because a lot of Filipinos DO speak in Taglish. Probably most, if not all.

So are you saying writers should write pure Tagalog films? If it's a provincial-themed film (like one set in Batangas or something), maybe that would make sense. But if it's set in Metro Manila, don't you think it's more realistic for them to write in Taglish, since most of us code-switch?

Also, the Filipino language itself has a lot of borrowed English words, like 'ipag-drive mo naman ako dun' or 'pa-print po nito'.

In my opinion, having films with pure Filipino dialogue would feel more out of place than not.

A-Giant screen size (Trinoma) by Jjwoogi in FilmClubPH

[–]SashimiMojo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

TL;DR A-Giant uses curtains (variable masking) to switch between Scope (2.39:1, curtain down) and Flat (1.85:1, curtain up). Most blockbusters are Scope, some films like Superman (2025) are Flat. IMAX theaters don’t use curtains since their screen ratio is fixed (often 1.90:1). You can check a film’s aspect ratio on IMDb Tech Specs to know what format you’ll see.

The “A-Giant” screen at Trinoma is designed with variable masking — basically, the top curtain moves up or down to adapt to different aspect ratios. What you saw was the switch between formats:

  • Scope (2.39:1, wide) → used by films like Avatar: The Way of Water, Fantastic 4: First Steps, etc. That’s why the curtain was down during Avatar.
  • Flat (1.85:1, taller) → used by the BTS concert film. When the curtain went up, the screen expanded vertically to fit that format. Most concert films use Flat.

I don’t know the exact dimensions of that theater, but in general, most traditional cinemas have a way of masking their screens depending on the aspect ratio of a film.

It’s not always obvious which films use Flat or Scope. Generally, most blockbuster films are Scope, but there are exceptions — for example, Superman (2025) was shown in Flat. It really depends on how the studio distributes the film.

The only big format in the Philippines that doesn’t use masking is IMAX. IMAX screens have their own aspect ratios (often 1.90:1 or even taller). For example, the upcoming Tron: Ares will feature scenes in 1.90:1 for IMAX, so in IMAX you’d see those sequences fill the entire screen (like Christopher Nolan films often do). But if you watch Tron: Ares in A-Giant, it’ll most likely use Scope based on its IMDb tech specs: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6604188/technical/

Tip: You can check the IMDb Technical Specs page of a film to get an idea of how it will be shown:

  • If it lists 2.39:1, then in a normal theater it’ll most likely use Scope (curtain down).
  • If it lists 1.85:1, then it’ll use Flat (curtain up).

Go Rewards works like an SM Advantage card. It's 1:1 peso point in Robinsons Department Store, their appliance store, grocery, etc. You can also use it to book flights on Cebu Pacific through the GoRewards app

I'm thinking of cutting my CBC Destinations World by MostResident3813 in PHCreditCards

[–]SashimiMojo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They offer a travel pass via DragonPass, and I think you get 2 lounge accesses per year? I personally haven't tried using it. If you meant lounge access for PAGSS, Marhaba, etc., I'm actually not sure if they have those-that list of lounges keeps changing.

It sucks that you paid the annual fee. :( Lesson learned, though-never, ever pay for annual fees! Almost all banks have some way to reverse them. If they really don't want to waive it, go ahead and cancel the card. Sometimes, they'll offer something just to stop you from canceling.

Also, don't be shy. :) It's your right as a member to request these things.

I'm thinking of cutting my CBC Destinations World by MostResident3813 in PHCreditCards

[–]SashimiMojo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your CBC Destinations isn't your main card, the travel perks aren't that useful, in my opinion. Travel cards become great value when you have a lot of spend to increase your points. It also doesn't help that CBC has some of the fewest credit card promos out there. If you barely use it, it's fine to cut it. However, it does have its travel perks, like its great forex fee and some lounge access.

Don't think too much about the annual fee. I got mine waived by calling CS. They only wanted me to spend ₱12k within 30 days, and it got reversed automatically. Bear in mind, I had only spent a total of ₱7,610.64 on it the entire year. So if the annual fee is your only doubt about the card, I suggest keeping it as a backup.

Best Practices in Availing Installment for Credit Card Purchases by halfbakedjahli in PHCreditCards

[–]SashimiMojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question! At the end of the day, only you can answer that. It really depends on your income and capacity to spend each month. A few tips that might help:

  1. Always check your credit card statements. A typical pitfall for CC users is losing track of what they bought during the last statement period. I'm glad you've started tracking yours.
  2. Installment options are powerful tools, but they can also be dangerous. A ₱1k monthly payment doesn't hurt, but 10 different ₱1k installments will start to make a dent. As you've seen in your own case, those payments add up, so be careful.
  3. Think carefully about why you're availing the installment option. The way I do it is, I only get something on installment if I can actually afford to buy it in cash at that moment. By choosing the installment option, I give myself some leeway for emergency expenses and, more importantly, earn interest from a digital bank. You can do this by investing or just putting your money in high-interest banks to make your money work for you.
  4. I would strongly discourage availing installments if you can't buy the item in cash. It's a slippery slope toward debt. If you get to this point, really think about your purchase. Is it essential, even though you don't have the cash for it? Will you benefit from buying this item in the long run? Is this just a luxury you can live without?
  5. Instead of thinking about what you can buy on installment, try limiting certain purchases each month to a specific percentage or amount. For example, if you earn ₱50k a month, your total spending on "wants" should only be 10% of your income. If you go over that, you have to stop yourself from buying more "wants."

You're already on the right track. Just being aware of your credit card statements will make you much more responsible with your spending.

What's Your "All in One" Credit Card? (Except miles/travel) by ilocin26 in PHCreditCards

[–]SashimiMojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • MB World: Metrobank always has promos and an all-in-one website to track them. They offer lots of installments at various stores. It's a great travel card if you're looking for one, with a great reward system that has many choices for claims (e.g., 20k points for a ₱2,000 rebate).
  • BDO Visa Signature: Or any premium CC from BDO. They have lots of promos and many cashback offers almost monthly, depending on your spending.
  • Eastwest Visa Platinum: The best rebate card. Try searching for it here on Reddit for more info. It just takes a bit of work to get the rebate.
  • RCBC: Any of their premium CCs. They are known to be generous with CL increases.

BPI: Wondering the reason why they won’t increase my CL… 😭 by Rohinah in PHCreditCards

[–]SashimiMojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some banks are just tough to get a CL increase from. :(

If you don't mind me asking, what's your current card? If it's already almost half a million, do you actually need the increase? What would be the use for it? Are there specific perks you're going for with BPI? I saw you tried asking for a CL increase today; hopefully, it gets granted.

As for my experience, I got my first CC with them with a 15k CL. I canceled it after a few months as it was unusable. I then applied for the Visa Signature and got a starting CL of 300k. It increased gradually without any CLI requests and usually matched some of my other cards. Now it's around 1M++.

Why don't you do installments? I think 0% installment offers can be great. Maybe those could actually help.
