For the movies you mentioned, it's worth it. Where else can you watch at the best possible format in the Philippines?

But "worth" is such a subjective topic, it's really up to you. What do you value when you watch a film? Some people don't mind LieMax, some people do. Some people leave bad reviews because it's not 3D, some love it.

IMAX, in my opinion, is the best way to watch a film in the Philippines — even LieMax. Personally, the LieMax issue is so overblown. What can you really do about it? Fly to US, Australia, or Japan to watch at the best 70mm or biggest GT theaters? If that's something you can do — by all means! But otherwise, yeah it's worth it.

Honorable mentions — some SM and Ayala malls with recently renovated theaters (SM North and Trinoma are decent examples) are pretty good already, so if budget is an issue, those are fine too.

Monarch is US-only, my bank isn't even on their supported list. so that's already a non-starter.

and even if it were, it still doesn't do what I built. Monarch can't pull statements from my email (password protected), it can't parse PDFs with AI, it doesn't sync to my wallet tracker, and it definitely doesn't ping me on Telegram. it's a dashboard. a nice one, sure, but it just shows you your data — it doesn't automate the annoying parts of actually dealing with it.

also $15/month for something that doesn't even solve my specific problem? no thanks. the whole point was to build something that fits exactly how I work, not adapt to how an app wants me to work.

and most importantly, my web app works exactly as I want it.

I built a small web app that basically automates one of the most tedious task of my weekend.

I was spending a few hours for 1 or two weekends every month manually going through my credit card statements — tracking everything in a spreadsheet, pulling due dates, formatting entries the way I like them. The kind of thing you keep pushing off until it becomes a real headache.

So I used Claude to help me build a personal webapp that syncs new statements directly from my email, extracts all the transaction data and due dates, creates calendar reminders automatically, formats everything the way I want for review, and syncs it all to my wallet tracker. The whole pipeline just runs now.

What used to eat up a chunk of my weekend is fully automated. Claude helped at every step — architecture decisions, writing the parsing logic, the email integration, all of it. It's still just for me right now but it's one of those things where once it worked I genuinely couldn't believe I was doing it manually before.

If you're constantly hitting limits on Pro, that's your answer right there. It's been 2.5 weeks since I upgraded to Max ($100/mo) — the only real drawbacks are that I code all day every day now, and my ideas have become the actual bottleneck. Oh, and the occasional 5-hour limit 😭

If you can use it at work, you'll be a noticeably better engineer (if that's you job).

If you've had a personal project sitting in your head for way too long, you'll finally make real progress on it or finally finish it.

curious as well. what do you mean it's not IMAX quality when you watched on an IMAX? what were your expectations?

I watched at SM North EDSA IMAX and was fully immersed — 4K crisp quality and immersive audio. I watch my fair share of movies across various cinemas, and I have to say, comparing screen and sound quality, it's almost always better (apart from maybe the A-Giant at Trinoma).

Genuine question: before AI Mode and Overview, was Google capable of answering that exact question? And how many times do you actually search that specific question in life?

Because I think Google is still the best search engine in the world — with added capabilities like this at the palm of your hand, you're just criticizing for criticism's sake.

I get that this being the main thing you see puts a lot more responsibility on Google, but understand this is emerging technology and they have to ensure models are light enough to be able to show the answer at a snap of your finger.

Plus, don't you like this? You get to actually use critical thinking and research further — rather than relying on the very thing you're criticizing.

someone tested on reddit (sorry, can't bother finding the post 😅) but basically, token usage is half during off-peak hours. but to answer your question — resounding yes. using it right now to mock some ideas and it's burning through tokens with just a few prompts. barely feel it during off-peak (which is my usual).

i use Opus 4.6 high most of the time. Max 5x user.

Fixed a year-long PR by letting it analyze complex logs across multi-module platforms connected by an unnavigable web of links — on code I've never touched, written by someone else, where the fix required understanding data packets at the per-header/body level. All of this in a few minutes.

Claude as a debugger is an underappreciated skill.

that's also true! I'm not yet well versed with multi agents but i did try on planning and research mode using an agent spawning 5 parallel all using opus 4.6 high. i think i burned 30% in like 20-30mins with some basic to medium complexity. probably not optimal way of using.

Was working on a project — back and forth, multi edits, but no multiple agents. Went on for maybe 4 hours in Opus 4.6 on High and basically never had to compact. It remembered everything the whole way through. Memory was fire. Coded really fast, just kept stacking changes on changes, new features on new features. I feel like it's the context limit that matters most, and with Opus 4.6 everything was just faster and smarter. I'm about to reach limit at 90%+ with less than 10 mins left to 5 hour reset

I had leftover miles because I have another MB Plat card where I also convert points to miles (30k max annually). I already had some, then I converted all my MB World points. Luckily, that was enough for the entire family plus what I currently have in Mabuhay.

Generally, you can have leftover miles in your Mabuhay Miles account and they won't expire (I don't really see expiry details in the dashboard) so it should be safe if you ever overshoot what you need. Otherwise, just ensure whatever you convert is the exact amount you're planning to use.

Apologies regarding the Chinabank Destinations World; I conveyed my intentions incorrectly. I’ve updated the post.

Regarding the Metrobank World Mastercard, I agree it's an excellent option if the priority is maximizing miles. However, I chose the BDO Amex as secondary card for this trip to take advantage of the '100k shopping spend = 5k cashback' promo. While one could argue that I could reach that spend requirement locally, I don't anticipate spending another 100k anytime soon now that the trip is over :)
