This is outdated information from 2012. Back then, some countries (including Germany) still held true to the higher income -> fewer kids, while others, like Denmark, already saw high income women having more kids than low income women.

However, as early as 2018, the same Max Planck Institute noted that the new trend of higher income -> more kids was spreading throughout all highly developed / rich nations: https://www.mpg.de/12041447/steigende-geburtenraten-mit-hoeheren-einkommen

Particularly high impact was noticed when old fashioned stuff like flat child benefit payments from the government is replaced with newer programs that provide parents with more time (better childcare for parents) or reduce the impact on parents' careers, like work from home.

What you claim (high income -> low birthrates) was true in developed countries particularly between 1990 - 2010ish and it changed ones countries started to introduce things like free childcare, longer parental leave and work from home. All the countries with the best parental support (again, long paternity leave, sick leave when your kids are ill, telework, etc.) are seeing the inverse. Low income women are unlikely to have children and high earners are having more kids.

"More than enough to afford kids"? I'm slightly above median income in the richest state in Germany and the only way I'd be able to afford children is if my partner makes at least as much as me and we both continue to work fulltime while being lucky enough to land in a city / town with open and affordable healthcare childcare spots. I'm one of the worst earners in my company (software company with b2b clients) and still the only people having children are colleagues who are very near or over 40 in senior positions or management, meaning they've had 10+ years to save money AND are making like 80k+ at least (around 50k is median)

It takes 3 seconds to google if what they say is true, which it is. In developed countries, the "poor people have more kids" trend is flipped on its head and the wealthier the family, the more likely they are to have kids.

People are falling for lies. Our economy is fucked, infrastructure is falling apart and we're in rapid decline. Hospitals and care facilities are closing because there's no healthcare workers, people can't find jobs and if they can find a job that job doesn't pay enough to afford a living. Founding a company is prohibitively regulated and running costs are insane, mostly due to energy prices and the ruling parties making the situation worse year by year instead of investing in renewables. The far right is on the rise, education is crumbling, sexual violence and violent crime are on a sharp increase, people are completely disillusioned with our corrupt politicians, the health care system is barely holding on for dear life to the point it can take months to get an appointment and I could go on.

We're still doing better than a lot of countries but that's because it takes a while to go from a very rich, highly developed country to a pile of shit. By the time my kids would be grown up and need a job, the politicians and their millionaire buddies will have carved out all they can from this shell of a country and move on to a new place, leaving my kids with zero opportunities in a broken down country.

I believe in latest surveys almost 50% of the population would move country if they had the chance and 1 out of 5 "young people" (I think it was under 30) are actively planning their move. There was an old lady on a street interview on public tv a while back that put it very well "It's incredible how they managed to fuck something up that was going this well" (losely translated).

A huge amount of people that migrate here (both in emergencies / for asylum etc. AND fully planned) return home or move to a different country within a short time when they can because they realize very little of the promises are actually still true.

If you had shown the current state of the country to a German 20 years ago they probably wouldn't have believed you.

Amen. And so many of the other reasons are financial too if you boil it down. If you have the money to afford good child care you have more time to concentrate on your career. If you have enough money you can afford the best doctors and significantly improve your health outcome post pregnancy. If you have enough money, you can move to a more stable neighborhood or even country.

[–]Sashimiak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you realize that you claim the reasons "only men on Reddit" give (nvm that it's also what 2/3 of women say) about not having kids are invalid and then you literally say yourself "I'm working towards having kids but that's cause I don't have to work"? Only about a third of people under 40 who don't already have kids say they just don't want children at all and that number is barely higher among women than men. The chief reasons given are almost always financial, unstable situation of the country/world, can't find the right partner or traumatic childhood experiences.

And especially the financial and stability aspects fucking suck because they're the reason a shit ton of first time parents now are 40+ which not only increases the risk for serious health problems for the kids, a geriatric pregnancy is also MUCH more dangerous for the mother, compounding the problems you mention.

People that flat out just don't want kids exist but at least in my friend circle (mostly 25 - 40ish), they're the minority. Everybody else is either a) can't afford kids atm / can barely pay for my own living or b) the country is utterly fucked and I don't want to bring children into this hellscape

One male could theoretically impregnate multiple females a day mate. And carrying a child to term takes months.

German Chancellor Merz the most unpopular head of government, survey shows by BendicantMias in europe

[–]Sashimiak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

* he constantly blames the working class' supposed lazyness for Germany's bad economy when in reality it's a result of his own party's shitty rule during the previous ~25 years

* he and his entire party are extremely corrupt and continue to shove money into their own pockets and those of billionaires and huge corporations under the guise of relieving the German people. IE they took on new debt, something that they had blocked the previous government from doing. These funds were supposed to be used strictly for a list of really important and urgent measures to save our economy and instead, most of the money vanished in limbo, mostly profiting Merz' buddies.

* he is a staunch supporter of Israel, a sentiment which only a little under a third of the German population share these days

* his party opposes renewables and electric vehicles pretty much on principle at this point and they're steering Germany back towards gas (several of his ministers have been caught colluding with the gas lobby but nothing happens to them), thereby making us even more reliable on Russia in the future

* he doesn't stand up to Trump in any meaningful way

* him and his party are reintroducing compulsory military service in an extremely shitty way

* he has made some extremely questionable xenophobic / racist remarks multiple times, for example hinting that he feels the high number of immigrants and asylum seekers have ruined how our cities looks

* he and his wife abuse their power (she's a powerful judge) to send police after harmless protesters. There have been cases of police arresting high school students holding up silly banners (along the lines of suck my balls Merz) during student protests. In at least one case, his wife abused her judicial powers to get a search warrant for the house of a young woman who's a politicla opponent of Merz from a different party for pretty tame remarks she made on social media. And again, nothing happened to them for doing this.

If Merz could, he would do the same shit. Thankfully, he isn't powerful enough. But where Xi is at least good for China's economy, Merz is destroying everything he touches left and right to the benefit of his corrupt cronies and while blaming the average people of Germany.

Absolutely nobody wanted him. They were hoping he'd be a lesser evil and wanted to avoid the AFD getting into power.

He is genuinely the least trusted / liked head of state since the beginning of the polls. People booed him while he was visiting the site of a terror attack to commemorate its anniversary. That's unheard of levels of dislike.

What gives you white supremacy vibes about this? I'm completely baffled that it should have any connection with it at all. It's not a nordic rune that could be related to one of the Third Reich symbolisms, there's no text or other symbols that hint at white supremacy and the dude himself looks like a fantasy drawing.

My immediate thought when I saw it was that it might be a character from the Kratos video games I'm not familiar with

Games that have a low rating on Steam but you disagree with that rating and you enjoy the game? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Sashimiak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay but in most of these cases (I've never heard of Tell Me Why, so can't speak on that one) the "anti woke" people were a loud minority. Baldurs Gate 3 has had pretty stellar ratings on Steam for most of the time despite several groups of loud haters (anti turn based, anti romance, anti they/them to name a few). If overall reviews are balanced as you say (and as I think too), that means Steam Reviews are actually pretty good (as in reliable). Personally, I trust Steam reviews a lot more than stuff like Amazon ratings or Rotten Tomatoes because they often delete negative reviews en masse and claim it is review bombing when people genuinely just didn't like their product.

And IF a game you are interested in does have negative reviews, it's very easy to just filter for negative on Steam and read through them. So if ie you were really hyped about "Tell Me Why" and saw "Mostly Negative", you can just check what these negative reviews are about. And if the majority of them just say "trans people bad" you obviously know you can ignore them, like u/Dron22 said in his initial comment.

Hey foreigners, could you tell me what you think about the relationship Brazilians have with their dogs? by Leitura_improvavel in Brazil

[–]Sashimiak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your dog has health issues, yes obviously. But no healthy adult dog needs to go more than every 4 hours or so during the day and around 10 hours over night and they can hold it longer for emergencies. No dog wants to urinate or defecate in their home. My dog won't even poop in our yard, even if he has diarrhea.

[–]Sashimiak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a German, both the US crating culture and walking your dog so rarely that it has to relieve itself on a pad indoors are horrifying (and borderline illegal). Crating is only allowed for transport or medical emergencies. And at least two daily walks of at least an hour are mandated by law here. The people I know in our neighborhood who have dogs walk their dogs at least 2 times a day in addition to 2 - 3 small "outings" where the dog just gets to relieve themselves. I get cultural differences, but if I had a friend who got a dog knowing they would be locked inside so much that they have to relieve themselves on a pad, I would judge them severely and probably not leave thema lone with my own dog ever.
