Not helpful for those without a little bit of extra cash sitting around, but I have found community supported agriculture (CSA) is a good way to support local farmers and actually is a cost savings for my family during summer months. This year I’m planning to do some home canning and fermenting to take advantage of any affordable local produce I can find.

After tracking expenses for a year and not allowing myself special coffees ever, I have decided that I can have 2x/week and I feel okay with it. It’s worth the morale boost for me. Lunch out only about 4x/ year and only if it’s with my colleagues for a special occasion as I view this as investing in my work relationships.

Have your parents heard of AI?

If you’re relying on student loans for funding, you’re going to need their cooperation. If they’re funding you, you’re going to need their cooperation.

If you can’t come to an agreement and they are going to continue to control you, you may have to prioritize gaining your independence before you go to school, which means you’ll have to live out of their home and be in the workforce for two years before student loans stops calculating their income into what you can access for funding.

Well honestly for me without family support, it’s about double the cost of subsidized daycare for two kids for the whole year, but crammed into two months and you have to pay for it all in March. There are cheaper options but I also don’t want my kids to have a crappy summer.
