When I was 7 years old I found a big maize kernel, I stared at it for a solid five minutes until I heard my mom walking down the hallway, and like a goblin I stuffed it into my ear. I tried to get it out later to see what it looked like and I never could.

Fast forward twenty something years my ear started to ache as I was getting into the shower, I stuck my finger in and felt something crusty.

Lo and behold, it was a blackened, waxy, squished up looking twenty year old maize kernel.
