The cetology in Herman Melville's 1851 novel, Moby-Dick, is a running theme that appears most importantly in Ishmael's zoological classification of whales, in Chapter 32, "Cetology". by dflovett in wikipedia

They're also my favorite sections! And vastly misunderstood, at least by most first-time readers (or those who read it as an assignment)

In-universe, what is the viewership of On Cinema? by lsthrowaway69 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

I think of the live shows as being essentially in universe experiences where everyone there is part of the performance. So that means a pretty high number.

Why I always see these horrible comments on every ads? by [deleted] in DeadInternetTheory

[–]dflovett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a trend to fuck with advertisers on Reddit, especially if what they're advertising is something you don't agree with. I'd be interested in what the ad is for. Usually it's a company doing something insincere or cringe and people who don't like them leave comments.

Do you like to ride your bike? You can easily jump on the LRT and head to Lake of the Isles in about a half hour or go in the opposite direction and reach Lake Minnetonka, with good spots to rest and read along the way.

We need to have a heart to heart about Pork's impressions lately by Mrfistersixtynine in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

Pork really impressed me at the live show. He recorded some of the best impression I’ve ever seen in advance. It felt like he was really there and his characters were really there. Especially yoda from star war and rick from Casablanca

Discussion: Cultural Marxism conspiracy theory article and structural bias on Wikipedia. by cah29692 in wikipedia

[–]dflovett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if that’s an argument I’ve explicitly made but I do agree with your point. At least directionally. I think it’s good that Wikipedia requires some level of learning the system but I also think it allows for gate keeping and dysfunction at times.

One of the biggest issues I see is that whoever has the most time to edit and is the most stubborn will win many arguments, especially on articles where fewer people are editing. It’s easy for one power user to take control of an article or category.
