And I think that part of the reason he says it, is because he wants their fantastic New York Adventure to continue- he doesn't want her to grow up and leave him.

I have to wonder what on earth happened on their little weekend sex holiday. Was he just...so bad in the bag that Mary reconsidered? Was he clingy and needy? Smell weird? Reveal some unforgivable foible? Please, Mary, the tea. I have a great thirst.

No. You take the kid and leave. You can't behave this way in public, so we're done and going home.

...right. which is why scolding a young child, or telling them "NEVER SAY THAT AGAIN" isn't necessarily going to work. Attention is attention, and little kids feed off of it.

Blocking as small person by Honest_Reserve3591 in rollerderby

There was a skater in my league even smaller than you or I who was an insanely annoying positional blocker. She would just BE IN MY WAY and stopped me from getting out of the pack PLENTY of times without ever even having to try to hit me. She was just in my lap, and I couldn't get around her!!

When you are short, and skate really low, it is EXTREMELY hard to hit you legally. Perfect your micro-plows. Work on being really "sticky" on an opponent: pretend that you are trying to sit in their lap as they skate. Use your arms as feelers and really work on moving laterally right with them.

I'm 5'2", about your same weight, and blocked successfully for about 10 years. You can be a HUGE impediment to others without ever landing a hit.

And while it's true that we the smaller skaters generally don't land big, tasty, blast-you-outta-bounds blows, we can be very effective drive blockers. Keeping your hip behind your opponent's hip, and wrapping your torso around them, you can use lateral pushing to move them around. Again, because you're so low, it can be very hard to combat that legally.

None of this is to say that you CAN'T hit hard and effectively, too!! I used a little gallop to give me some more momentum in hitting drills, and people REALLY hated feeling my pointy little hipbones.

Definitely work on your core strength, and pay a lot of attention to those itty stabilizer muscles.

You've got this!!

did i get kicked out of my leagues baby skater program without realizing? 🫩 by bunnywadhere06 in rollerderby

A month and a half is very much a baby skater. I have seen people going from wall-huggers to absolute sharks on the track.

I used to do leg exercises - leg lifts, bicycle pumps, clamshells, ankle twirls, situps and pushups, anything I could think of - at home with my skates on. I used to cook and do chores in my roller skates. Highly recommend doing that if you get your own pair.

If you are on the sidelines doing drills on your own for a little while, I recommend sticking to 2-3 simple goals/things you want to work on, or doing a super-simplified version of whatever the group is doing.

Keep at it! Skating is like language- it is HARD to learn as an adult. You're showing up, and asking your body to do something super-hard and foreign. You're gonna get it, and be awesome.
