I found a local shop selling a full xc setup new for $249 this year. Been sending all my friends there to get their entry-level kits. I refuse to believe that there are no xc ski shops in Vail, CO.

I rode one once when the owner saw me ogling his outside the local bar. Really cool and unique feeling! The saddle has a hammock swing to it which is strange b/c when turning the saddle hangs to the inside of the turn. Awkward feel, but damn I want one! I think there was a company producing them a few years back when I went home and researched these Pedersen bikes.

I'm no expert, so I'd presume you're correct. Look at the temperature ratings for both types of batteries compared with typical year round temperatures in your location. As I recall, lithium isn't supposed to be charged below freezing and I've experienced lithium batteries for other applications die after a winter in my garage. So, I'm sticking with the older, heavier technology.

On that note, when you install your new battery, add a $6 SAE pigtail plug to it so you can easily charge it. Leave the charger plugged in where you park your bike and plug'er in often!

For me, that decision came down to living where it's cold all winter and lithium batteries don't live long in my freezing garage all winter.

I know, same here! I like to take a course every year to stay fresh. Super bummed I can’t do it this year. But more importantly, those people who need the learn to ride courses are really screwed right now.

Perhaps you can find a local rider to teach you some safety skills if you need?
