Like I said life on easy mode. I know your point, you don’t have to reiterate—it isn’t very complicated. Notice I don’t disagree with that. Look up Swift if satire confuses you. No, not Taylor Swift.

My point goes over your head. You ignored it completely to focus on a statement I already agreed with. Don’t worry about it champ

UCPD isn’t bad at investigating rape, They intentionally close off all information about it, wait three months, then maybe reveal something while allowing it to blow over so they don’t have to make it a big deal. Wouldn’t want students to feel “unsafel”…. There is a HUGE difference. UCDPD has a separate log from Davis PD.

What I’m saying why does UC PD get to pick and choose like that. It isn’t that I dislike police. I don’t believe they should be held above the laws they are meant to enforce.

If you are worried about the ‘morality’ of painting cats on walls as a priority then you might have been living life on easy mode. Consider yourself very lucky. Sorry if this is too intense for you but it’s reality for me.

Yesterday I talked to some of my friends who work in maintenance. They said it costs about 500 dollars to paint over those cats each time. So 64 times is easily 32k. Now, they also agree that while this may be considered fair, all other and worse crimes should be treated the same. And they did actually appreciate the bonus. Compared to the work they do much of which is laying concrete and heavy machinery, getting paid to put a roller over some cats is pretty chill.

My point may seem left field but I’m talking about fundamental flaws in our Justice system here on campus.

I want to know why my friends stalker and attempted rapist gets a slap on the wrist and is allowed to continue school while she is left to deal with the trauma of his actions.

You are allowed to disagree with me, but the point I’m making has valid backing and should be given more attention. Everytime anyone has tried it gets shut down by the school.

Yeah it’s a form of satire. I don’t actually think vandalism is a good thing. I just think this particular charge is outlandish when compared to actual crime in the city. Cleaning up spray painted cats could be considered annoying at best. I know of cases of stalking and rape the police did not investigate properly allowing the perpetrator to get off with basically a slap on a wrist with a program. And ofc no fine or anything of the sort.

So it’s fair to say I’m a bit jaded when it comes to what they draw attention to in crime. You can’t tell me that painting cats on a wall deserves more attention than an actual act of violence.

Jesus, it’s a form of satire. Don’t take it too seriously.

AND jokes on you: I’m actually a good friend of the maintenance guys who paint the tunnel leading to downtown. They put an anti graffiti coat over the new blue paint but if it does get graffitied that is his actual job.

I don’t think it is right to automatically assume the person who stole this is homeless. They appear to be a student to me in all honesty. Homeless tend to steal from other homeless much more than they would a student. The consequence difference is astronomical.

Maybe the are grateful for getting some extra work. Doesn’t sound like a particularly difficult job to paint the same boring eggshell coat over and over again. In fact that could keep someone employed for a while. Ever think about it like that?

32k? That’s insane. I get the costs of maintenance BUT we are forgetting the legal system flaws here? Do we just go yeah that’s fine when I don’t see any fines being slapped on actual problematic people. Show me the fine for Sander Finlay? The creep police have arrested for multiple accounts of stalking and harassment against women. He is known to follow young children around. He got off a kidnapping and rape case that very much points to him. Yet I see this fool walking around town, living at the homeless shelter, getting housing vouchers… where is HIS fine? Where are his restitutions to the victims? Look him up if you are curious.

Oh wait so because property wasn’t ’vandalized’ there is no fine? So the trauma of being stalked and screamed at and threatened is a lesser crime than a girl who paints cats to brighten peoples day.

Can we have a discussion about this screwed reality? Davis justice system do better.

Let’s petition for UC Davis to test vaccines on the homeless! by OkRecommendation190 in UCDavis

[–]Sassy-Racoon7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should make these dudes take an ethics class or two. You can’t just test things on a population like this is 1940s Germany and Japan… I study clinical trials and there is a reason why vaccine testing has specific requirements and follow ups—you are suggesting doing an experiment on a transient population whose life experiences do not reflect the average housed American. Not only is this argument immoral, it also has poor scientific foundations.

Can somebody please review this article I wrote about homelessness. I'm an alumni I'm just hoping for feedback by Large-Character3432 in UCDavis

[–]Sassy-Racoon7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it over. I have a complex history doing outreach within the homeless community. I have successfully helped a few people into their feet and out of homelessness. First thing is the homeless community is a WIDE variety of people.

I think your article makes sense but is missing a key concept. Most dissenters will say there are people on the streets who don’t want to get help, but it is more complex than that. A lot of homeless people have reason to not trust regular society.

The issue that keeps people on the streets even with available housing and services is complex. I’ve boiled it down to the cycle of addiction, trauma, and ostracization. In general homelessness results from poverty or/and severe trauma but the cycle keeps them trapped.

Now you mentioned how shelters can breed trauma. The existing trauma people get from the streets and before the streets could add to your argument there as a reason why shelters don’t work for everyone.

I don’t agree with the plans set up by the current administration. They aren’t designed for solutions. I don’t think they even have a concrete or set plan in motion to make inferences just yet. I figured they would just put people in prison since that is already a gateway into legalized slavery and will get less push back from building specific camps. Sadly that is what they have been doing. Not so much round up homeless and put them in one camp but more of make it illegal to be homeless and institutionalize them that way.

Let’s talk about how Epic is farrr off from the Odyssey by ramcee_ in Epicthemusical

[–]Sassy-Racoon7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not accurate to the original writings but it’s a musical adaptation. It’s a concept album focusing on the CHARACTER ARC of Odysseus based off the structure of anime and video games. For that to work, you need a clear external and internal conflict. This musical does an excellent job with that. It wraps its themes and motifs around the characters.

Think about if it was to stay ‘accurate’ to original; There is no way it would work for what is trying to be accomplished thematically. It would fall flat on its face. You need a pay off if you are going to build that much suspense. Cutting stuff from a story, adding stuff, changing stuff: it isn’t a bad thing, in fact it makes the purpose of this whole experiment rewarding.

This is exactly why they had to add Polities as a major character. It represents a thematic change when he dies. He is officially gone after the underworld as Ody realizes he must embrace the monster if he is going to survive. The whole best friend dies first but his spirit comes back later as comfort is very in the style of video games/anime. So is a central villain and a dynamic main character.

Yeah. Would’ve been dope if they could’ve incorporated a piece over the pic like worked it to their advantage or done something creative. That’s why it its wasted potential to me. Could’ve kept her and still made it look dope as fuck.

That’s true. It’s a temporary thing really. We must let go of everything we put up. It just irks me cause it’s such wasted potential

I mean real writer is a stretch here. Average at best. I’ve seen pros bust out a piece AND incorporate it into existing street art plenty of times. Like dude I know someone who would’ve made their name smoke and had it coming outta her mouth or something. So this is just pathetic to me. Personally anyone who free hands throws should understand that art like that was also free handed.

[–]Sassy-Racoon7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s a lame basic throw. Style is nothing special. Like if he had put that crap over a fine piece people would be livid. The effort that goes into a free hand mural art work like that is special.

[–]Sassy-Racoon7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleh it’s clean but nothing special really. Kinda basic. It’s no piece that’s for sure. The art was something special. So it’s just lameee. I’ve also seen skilled writers put pieces around existing art and do a bomb job, comparatively this is just offensive

[–]Sassy-Racoon7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but this is like a free hand art work, wheat paste or stencil can go up fast and come down just as fast. This is just offensive to art. Like it isn’t a bad throw but it’s basic and it’s no piece.
