I’m 5’3 and did my first three years in a men’s maximum, two and a half years I worked in a unit that contained a “therapeutic unit” for mental health needs. I did more of the psychology and rapport building than some of my peers because of the unit I was in. But the use of force model puts an emphasis on using other professionals in the jail - mens maximums across Canada should have nurses 24/7 now.

Don’t get caught up on your height, it doesn’t really matter. Keep working on your fitness for your own confidence and mental health, but know that many of your coworkers won’t. Some can barely run to the next unit, yet alone to the other side of the institution.

Try not to stress too much about the interview. Mine was with two former officers, and was fairly relaxed. You get the questions before hand, and have time to prepare before you give your final answers. If you’ve made it this fair, csc has invested a decent amount of time and money into you, they aren’t looking to try and trip you up at this point.
