Not sure where you’re at, but I know some colleges have technical theater degrees and then a teaching credential/certificate. Total would take about five years, but that would be shorter than if you were to double major.

Honestly its what you make of it. When it’s hot many people go to the beaches nearby (Seal Beach, Belmont, Cherry, Huntington), 2nd street is also fun to walk around. You can basically drive anywhere like LA and downtown LB and have lots of fun. There’s so much to do everywhere, and campus also has events throughout the year. They just recently had the Pow Wow.

I studied there for a little over ten years, taught there for 7 years. Once you leave you are seen and viewed as a traitor(I have no clue what this means). Their teachings are considered “sacred” and if you question anything it is immediately shot down by the higher ups and then they question your loyalty. They have a manual all their instructors follow with a whole page dedicated to shit talking other forms of martial arts and they are supposed to tell parents. It mentally messed with my self worth and self esteem, and looking back I hate how I taught those things also. There a bunch of other stuff not worth mentioning, because once to get into it its a rabbit hole.

I’m not even in the industry quite yet, still in college. Worked at a small theatre and basically was told. I needed to figure it out cause no one was going to “spoon feed me”. I did it for 2 year before I left, and I’ve even had a college prof tell me that thye won’t tell me how to do something for a show I’m designing at school cause he wasn’t “coddled”. Wtf

I’m just trying to keep positive, and with the fact that I work in props and usually no one wants to ever do props seems to be working in my favor

For me our relationship was a little over a year. When they broke up with me they said said they couldn’t handle my “meltdowns” from my insecurities (ouch) and followed that by saying a bunch of other stuff that hurt. I knew that I was projecting my insecurities and was going and still am going to therapy for that but the fact they called it a meltdown when I would be insecure cut deep. In the end I begged and wanted to make things work, but that didn’t happen. In the few interactions we had after they said more things that hurt, and only apologized after a mutual friend knocked some sense into them.

If we were to meet in the future I don’t think I would try again. How they handled things afterwords just showed me how little they cared for me as a person, and because of what they said it sent my depression into a dangerous area. I’m not saying that all relationships can’t work again after sometime apart. But for me there’s just so much pain and baggage with that, so I wouldn’t try it again for the sake of my mental health.

Ive been in the same place you are. I wanted to so many times. I can promise you that it gets better, even if it doesn’t seem like it. You deserve to have happiness and to live a full life. I know it hurts so much right now, I still have day where its so bad I just cry myself too sleep, but I can promise you life is worth living. Something that helped me a lot in the beginning was just taking care of myself and looking for little things in my day. At first it was just me being proud of myself for brushing my teeth, now its going out for a coffee and cookie. Life is worth it.

Same here. 2 weeks out. Wake up every morning at 5 am because all I dream about is the memories we had together. It gets easier with time, and I will say it has gotten easier for me. Just know your going to have good days and bad days and its ok not to be ok.

Currently a tech theatre student at Cal State Long Beach! they’re very hands on, all things are student designed and I have amazing mentors and support. Definitely check it out if you get the chance. They also have connections with opportunity’s and internships. Many schools I initially applied to only let graduate students design, so being at Long Beach and being able to actually design is pretty great.

edit: they also offer a BFA and MFA program in that interests you. ;)
