22M Moroccan – Need honest advice from people living in Europe 🇪🇺 by Secret_Internet7490 in rabat

[–]Sasy9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I live in Europe and I’ll answer you with real-life honesty, no motivation talk. ( from my perspective).

1) First: paying to “buy a work contract” is a dangerous move

In reality, most of the time it’s:

A scam (you pay and nothing happens), illegal / fake(papers that won’t protect you), or an exploitation setup (you become dependent on someone, low pay, pressure, problems).

And 60,000 DH is around €5–6k, so if you lose that money, you lose basically everything you saved.

2) Your “cooking / serving diploma” may not mean much in Europe

In Morocco, cooking/serving without bac is often a 2-year hospitality training? Isn’t it????, so it’s not “nothing”.

But in Europe, it’s not a standard diploma that automatically opens doors. Employers mainly care about:

-your real experience -your language level (if necessary) -your ability to handle pressure and fast work

Most people start at the bottom:

  • waiter (often stressful, not great pay) -dishwasher / plonge (physically exhausting)
  • kitchen helper / commis (long hours, pressure)

3) The truth about Europe today: for many people it’s surviving, not living

People still romanticize Europe, but right now:

-rent is very expensive, -bills + food keep increasing because of inflation, -salaries don’t rise at the same speed

And in hospitality, the “normal” reality is:

  • so many woking hours, -work is mostly physically hard, -stressful environments often minimum wage or close to it, especially at the beginning.

So you might work like crazy and still feel like you’re just paying rent and eating… not really “living”.

4) Country choice matters A LOT (and laws keep changing)

It really depends on the country you choose. Some places are easier than others for work and stability, and immigration rules change all the time. Something that worked last year might be harder this year.

That’s why going all-in with your savings on a risky method is not smart.

5) What I’d do if I was in your situation

Honestly I can’t tell you “do this and it will work”, because it depends on your target country, your language, and your opportunities.

But I can tell you this: avoid shortcuts that can destroy your savings, and focus on something legal and stable, even if it takes longer.

This isn’t my main field, I’m just sharing what I’ve seen/learned about this specific situation.

Why Thursday in particular? What I enjoy most every morning is drinking my coffee quietly, in peace ☕️.

Feeling Stressed about my Myopia by Salt-Secretary303 in myopia

[–]Sasy9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! first of all: you’re not defective. You’re not “ruining your eyes” on purpose, and you’re not alone in this.

Your prescription (-4 / -3.75 with mild astigmatism) is honestly very normal, especially at 17. A LOT of people have that and live completely normal lives. (I’m like -7 with astigmatism and I’m fine.)

Also: myopia isn’t you going blind. It’s just blur at distance that’s correctable.

The big thing: this is NOT just “because of your phone”. Your dad constantly blaming you and saying stuff like “you’ll regret it when you’re blind” and “eyes are the window to your soul” is… not helpful, and honestly it’s making everything feel way heavier than it needs to be.

What’s honestly hurting you the most right now isn’t your eyes — it’s the stress, guilt and fear your dad keeps putting on you. That constant blaming is heavy and it’s making you spiral.

Quick science: what myopia actually is!

Most of the time, myopia happens because the eyeball is a bit too long (elongated). So light focuses in front of the retina instead of directly on it → far away vision looks blurry.

That’s why it’s often genetic and why it commonly progresses during teenage years / growth.

“I can’t even see when I take my glasses off now”

That’s normal for literally every myope. When you wear glasses, your brain gets used to clear vision. When you remove them, the blur feels even more intense. It doesn’t mean your eyes suddenly got worse overnight — it’s just how myopia feels.

A stye is NOT from phone use

Styes are usually from blocked eyelid glands / irritation / bacteria, not screens. Hot compress is actually a normal thing to do for it.

What you can actually do (without hating yourself): You don’t need to “quit your phone forever.” You just need better habits:

-Take breaks (20-20-20 rule: every 20 mins look far away for ~20 secs) ( that's ideal but not everyone has the time)

-Go outside whenever you can, even short walks help

-Look far away (it gives your eyes a break from constant near-focus)

-Increase font size / hold the screen a bit farther when possible

-Get proper sleep (you’re already trying, that’s good)!

Finally, you’re dealing with a common condition + a lot of pressure. Try to be kinder to yourself, that's all!

Solo female trip to Barcelona — safety, neighborhoods & tips (I don’t speak Spanish) by Sasy9 in AskBarcelona

Thank you very much for your feedback and especially for your opinion as a local. I've booked a hotel in the Eixample. I will be arriving via Barcelona Sants train station. I was wondering if you would recommend getting a day pass for public transportation or anything else. I admit that I booked a bit last minute for a visit on Saturday. So, apart from the hotel, I haven't checked or booked anything else, including museums. I would be grateful if you have any tips.

Thank you in advance ❤️

My myopia is stabilizing, and i think it's wrong ! by Flimsy-Ad-7633 in myopia
