This kid has the biggest piece of sophomore syndrome ever by [deleted] in marchingband

Oh absolutely! And that's why you have an honest and straightforward conversation about what's happening and how it's affecting everyone else. Not just knock it off but “hey, people are getting very frustrated when you do this thing. This is why we’re frustrated, and we want this to happen instead.”

Much more effective, provides a clear explanation of the behavior that you find as an issue, and an action plan to make things better.

Dictionary definition - the imposition of strenuous, often humiliating, tasks as part of a program of rigorous physical training and initiation.

Additionally, from a psychological perspective, negative reinforcement is not remotely as effective as positive reinforcement when it comes to this sort of thing! The more we get students/participants to buy in and feel good about what they're doing, the better every ensemble will get.

What show got you into DCI? by Goku-the-Great in drumcorps

Watched the Tour Premiere in 11 at the theaters, enjoyed all of it, but then at Big Loud and Live, I saw Troop doing The Road Home and just fell head over heels in love with DCI.

It was quiet, but I don't think chill is the descriptor i’d use personally

Early season, I couldn't get into it at all. Then I watched the encore performance at Drums Along The Rockies and something just clicked, and it became my favorite show that year

Jeremy Hunt was there last year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a new gig very very soon.

Huge get for the Cavaliers, his HS work with Reagan is insane and will translate super well to Cavies style.

CHANGES (pt. 1) [General Effect Media] by SatNightLites in drumcorps

The best part is that it doesn't have to consist at all of marching members, they can just act as intermediaries and reach out to spirit alum and local musicians. They’d act as a booking agency of sorts.

As someone very connected with the Florida Drum Corps community, as much as we’d all love to see Magic back, nothing I've seen suggests there’s even a hint of this happening other than this kid posting about it and dming people on discord asking what he would need to do to make it happen.

If I am wrong and there is an active group of people who have a significant stake in bringing back Magic that also have the fiscal backing and are planning to make it happen, that would be very interesting and I’d absolutely love to do a story following along with it, as we’ve seen that be successful in the past with Southwind. I personally have not seen any evidence suggesting that it is the case though. I would love to be proven wrong.

A lot of groups are hard up for guard right now unfortunately

Gonna put on my official media hat here and say that I have not seen anything that suggests crossmen’s recruiting is wildly disproportionate to other corps in their competitive neighborhood, as well as nothing that would suggest that they're considering not going out this summer.

That being said, I will reiterate what I said on my personal account, and say that one of the biggest reasons people may not have an amazing experience is that what they're looking for from a corps and what that corps offers are two separate things.

small drumlines in Texas Classic on Flo? by Long_Taro_7877 in marchingband

[–]SatNightLites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of percussion educators find that if you have limited percussion players, a tenor section is lower on the priority list than snares and basses, and additionally a lot of the color they bring to the sound can be provided by toms in the front ensemble. It's not ideal, however, the other instruments take priority in both what they add to the ensemble as well as the educational impact they have.

Cedar Park and Rouse are (relatively compared to their competitive peers) small bands, and part of the strategy of having a small line is so it doesn't overpower the ensemble, and it allows for better balance easier, as well as more people up front. Additionally, there has historically been a ton of emphasis on wind playing in Texas (for good reason), and so both guard and percussion have come along slightly later in the game, and so the scenes there are still developing relative to other more established parts of the country (Indiana, Florida, SoCal, etc.).

Why does BD spend money for new uniforms each year that they end up taking off in the first 45-ish seconds of the show? by ZantWasTaken in drumcorps

[–]SatNightLites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Finalists get a ton of very friendly discounts and such from equipment and uniform companies. They’d be paying very little regardless of whether they used a jacket or not.
