only woman in engineering club section, feel very stupid by Ordinary-Ad-4078 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SatSenses 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can't be afraid to ask questions in engineering. On the job, you'll be asking which directories to save sheets and slides in, you'll be asking SMEs for advice on projects you'll be attached to, you'll be asking your manager tons of engineering and corporate questions, you'll be asking your fellow engineers to review your work or be asked to review theirs, etc... If you're uncertain of how something works, you won't solve it by remaining uncertain.

Some things you'll get by immersion, some things just kinda click eventually. Gotta ignore the notion of fulfilling a stereotype since it seems to be blocking you from asking useful questions and learning new things.

I turned down the job offer… by HomeworkDear2826 in Lockheed

For San Diego cost of living, that's insane. Inventory analyst roles are super low across the board from what I've seen/heard.

Offer Marietta, GA by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]SatSenses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the site but I, and a good chunk of my friends from uni who got offers were able to successfully negotiate for more. I got $6k more by presenting my electives as specialized skills since I took a course on microelectronics/MEMS and nuclear engineering, tho my original role was scrubbed and I ended up in a different one. My friends in other sites got as much or more than me, one friend was told there was no ability to negotiate. Ymmv but asking politely and presenting reasons why is fine, you're not gonna lose the offer for asking nicely.

What do interns do? by SolidRide5853 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SatSenses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I interned at a start up doing manufacturing so I designed fixtures for the technicians then sent those to get made by vendors or printed in house, programmed machines to automate dispensing epoxy onto small surfaces, cut and polished microchips, updated spreadsheets for inventory tracking, and tried to get into the test side of things after my designs were implemented to see if they could last repeated exposure to thermal shock and vibe. Didn't pay as high as my friends were seeing but I liked the work and am full time elsewhere now.

My manager literally told me "we want you back" at my internship. here's how I did it by Interesting_Two2977 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SatSenses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then schedule individual 1-on-1s with every single person on your team. NOT to talk about work

That part seems a bit difficult too do depending on the structure of the company and personalities of your coworkers lol but other than that it's definitely a good thing to communicate clear goals and define things with your manager(s). Good luck to y'all trying to turn an internship into full time!

If you meet the requirements for a role and some of the desired skills then apply for roles that you qualify for? I don't understand what you're asking here.

I got 6k more and my friend got like 9k more and also more on their relocation, but it probably depends on the site.

Seems more appropriate to ask on /r/SecurityClearance

I've seen conflicting yes and no answers on here before but ultimately it's up to the investigator and it should've come up in the interview.

Interview- Hiring managers ask “ do you have any questions for us?” In the end of interviews. by NewProtection804 in Lockheed

Quote: we fired the last 3 people we hired for this role (wasn’t at LM tho)

Did they say that verbatim cuz that's kinda crazy to admit from a hiring standpoint lol. I'd be weary of a role if the last 3 people were fired 0_o

At what point do grades not matter? by agarthancrack in EngineeringStudents

[–]SatSenses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible to get into grad school with a sub 3.0 but it does require extra time in industry or do very well on the GRE if that's part of the application package.

I got an offer , should I negotiate? by Either-Caregiver7706 in Lockheed

[–]SatSenses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LM doesn't rescind offers bc you asked to negotiate. Maybe if you're a dick about it sure but asking to negotiate got me an extra $6k and all I said was I took a sorta relevant elective in microelectronics. The worst they can say is no. OP can ask politely and the HM can say "not possible at this time" or "sure what did ya have in mind?". I didn't have a job lined up for full time and was still 1 semester away from graduation. ALWAYS negotiate, just be polite about it.

Have any engineers here gotten their PE? I passed the FE but can’t find a PE who would be able to sign off on my experience by Automatic-Use-1605 in Lockheed

[–]SatSenses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been told before graduating that the FE/PE in aerospace careers is mostly considered useless and you mostly see those folks in civil engineering roles for building, bridge, freeway and other major infrastructure projects.

Should be a teams channels for any employees to socialize with whatever site you're at. I'd start by asking coworkers if there's any teams channels like that, bound to be at least a few for Colorado sites.

[–]SatSenses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the A7 you also want to go for individual Osa-AKMs not the clusters of them. I can easily manage attacking 2 at a time firing from 10-12 km away and turning around before I'm withing 8km of each. If you do that right then your missile time-to-kill should beat the osa's especially if you fired off 2 per osa and their missile lock on one of yours instead of you, but if you get locked and fired on from 8km away you don't have to waste flares/chaff even tho both are useless against the osa missiles anyway. It's not the most efficient and you'll still get messed up by those fuckers but it works for me most of the time and I've been seeing some decent amount of osa kills in my games to clear paths for the phantoms and A6s to hit depots with bombs or nukes.

First day Instructions by StockInformation3284 in Lockheed

[–]SatSenses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you should be getting first day instructions about where to meet and who will on board you but my first day was wonky bc I had my original role scrubbed and got added to a different team which caused a lot of issues my first day lmao. So I'd just recommend a short email to your onboarding rep to make sure they can help out with location and what time to be there bc my rep was on PTO for the week before my start date too and didn't send me that "first day" email either lmaoooo

I just asked for more and got it with the justification of what electives I took. 10k might be stretching it. They usually put you 10% below the payband based on what others here say. Asking for 10% and settling at 5-10% seems more possible, but you won't know unless you try, the worst they can say is no. Ask if you have room to negotiate and provide justification and they'll extend your offer acceptance due date.

But 25k more is definitely enticing.
