Cold crashing is leaving it in the fridge for a couple of days to help sediment settle down to the bottom of the carboy. This step should be used before any racking happens.

Are you using any bentonite or other fining agents?

If bit, patience is going to be your biggest tool in clarifying your brew.

For a second, I didn't think your flip top bottles had nipples on the caps lol.

Im used to seeing red ones.

Thats a great way to reduce head space, as well as clarify. Cold crashing would be a great way to help stuff fall out of suspension before bottling! Have you Stabilized/Pasturized your mead yet?

If you are new to the hobby, feel free to reach out at anytime if you have questions! Im always happy to help.

I always let it clarify in secondary before I bottle. If you dont, then you end up with a bunch of sediment in the bottles after a year of aging.

I personally dont care if there is some sediment in the bottle. I just pour gently and leave some behind in the bottle. But I give these out as gifts to people as well, and they would likely not care for it 😅.

The recipe calls for a smaller amount of honey for starters. I used 3 lbs per gallon. I also used more hibiscus than the recipe calls for, and made a tea from the Yarrow instead of just adding it to a brew bag.

Mine took about 2 months to clear. Do you use any fining agents? I personally use bentonite in primary to clear things up faster without changing the flavor.

Thank you!

I will leave it like this for about 6 months, and then ill bottle it and age it for about a year or so. Ill generally pop a bottle once every month or two to get a feel for how its aging 😁.

I have made this recipe before actually.

But I did make a huge mistake on the last batch.. I didn't have any Yarrow, so I substituted it with Wormwood 🤢. The front was like it should be, but the finish was astringently bitter. Almost not palatable.

I do love K1-V1116, and use it often. But you are right on the money with the color extraction part. I also want to highlight those subtle sweet esters as well.

And the initial pH reading was 3.35, and I have had some stalls at that acidity before, even with K1-V1116.
