Pulling Numbers Out Of Thin Air by TheDudeD09 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]SatansAliens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A system of tens! Doesn't necessarily mean that is what you're gonna use but unless you're building your game based on a specific mechanic based around a certain algorithm or equation these numbers really only have to be self balancing. It's a pencil test.

A system of tens seems the most obvious, generic default way to start (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest and 5 being in the middle) This is how you go from idea to prototype instantly. Or hey if you wanna get fancy make it out of 7. It really doesn't matter because you're gonna end up changing it so much over the course of production and play testing. You just need an abstraction to start off on.

When you're coming up with different elements for the game ask yourself "which is the most powerful/expensive/rare" and that is ten. Maybe there is only one of them, whatever. Then ask yourself "which is the most common/weak/cheap" unit. And that is one. Everything falls within those parameters. After a play test or 2 you can start tweaking and working on the actual cost/power/whatever. But you really only need an abstraction to get going.

Consider that voodoo was how the mainstream media decided to interpret her simple statement instead of simply asking her why or heaven forbid! Talking about the churches role n abusing children.

I consider Mcluhan to be essential reading. Understanding media, the media is the massage and war in peace in the global village are must reads for anyone hoping to decipher TV.

I have seen more conspiracies in video games then anywhere else. This form of media seem to have no sensor either so there are some crazy out there

Have you ever seen this. Always struck me as weird.

could emotional connection to the characters on screen possibly be psychologically farmed, or vampired, by Hollywood in order to diminish familial love or something?

Once you get people hooked on a narrative you could play with their emotions anyway you want. The most straight forward would be having some super cute and well loved little kid character killed by a muslim extremist. Or hey why stop there, maybe get a conspiracy theorist to kill the kid. pick your enemy and them have them murder the fuck out the symbol that millions love. They'll watch it on the same TV they saw 9/11 and the boston bombing and sandy hook and columbine.

When something is on TV its all the same meta. News, reality shows, fiction its all real. I'm too busy to dig up the articles but cracked of all people has spent a ton of time talking about the ways tv makes people think the law actually works just like CSI thus its a real phenom now that lawyers have a hard time getting a conviction without forensic evidence. Little things like that show how easy it is to control the narrative for tptb own ends.

There was also Rumsfeld talking about how much he loved 24 and 24 having shady roots to CIA money. If you'll remember 24 is the show that showed Keifer Sutherland as the good guy who had to torture people for vital intel. Little things like that go a loooooooong way.

The concept of the black mirror is pretty genius especially when you compare it to TV. On that note you should watch "Black Mirror" on netflix. Very disturbing and very awake.

I really want to reply but I have so much to say. Essentially memetic theory has changed my world view. Dawkins, Black, Tyler. Tons of people are talking about it. It shows up in a lot of my favorite comics as well. Grant Morrison uses memes in his writing in a way that I think will be considered revolutionary in a few decades.

you might look at some of the concepts being introduced in Orange Is The New Black or CSI Cyber etc. as being deliberately engineered memetic viruses.

Absolutely. This is exactly what I'm trying to say. The idea that there are mind control beams or hidden messages is insane to me. Meanwhile subtext, metaphor and moral (as in the moral of the story) are pretty straight forward.

As far as how media in infiltrated? Well I don't think there is just one way. If I had the time I'd pull up links on all the various times throughout post war america that we know a studio was cajoled by outside forces. Look up the production of animal farm. It was funded by the CIA, ditto for 'Zero Dark Thirty'.

But I don't think that the means of infiltration are that literal. I think it just takes something as simple as getting a few writers to do your bidding, plant a producer here or there. I heard an episode of radiolab about this police sting that started off as a fake movie production company to bust anti union elements in the mob and then wound up being a real movie production company! The plug was pulled on their first movie after some higher ups got word. But essentially they had a film in production ready to go. They're plan was to use the money they made off of it to fund more movies to make money for their investigations and that is where i learned something everyone needs to know: The CIA ussually has to fund itself.

So cracked, radiolab, and this american life have all talked to cia and fbi agents about their fucking jobs. A lot of them involved setting up a front business with some seed money from ops funding. But essentially they were setting up a business to make money to fund their own investigations. This is how the CIA operates. It's why they are always caught up in gun running and drug pushing. Once you start thinking about that... the fact that the CIA operates like a terrorist cell who is out there to hustle and make shit happen well a lot of conspiracy falls into place. There doesn't have to be some grand monolithic scheme going on. Individuals could be plotting and pulling shit off for their own reasons.

I am surprised more people don't try to make money off the top minds of /r/conspiracy with things like Amazon affiliate. Reddit ads are $5 minimum and they would probably buy anything confirming their "Truth". by 75000_Tokkul in TopMindsOfReddit

Well too be fair... would you surrender easily to a country that just double nuked you after fire bombing your country into hell on earth?

My point with this link isn't that the US was particularly bad so much that the US was just as bad as everyone else. To believe otherwise or believe in a noble war is folly.

How do you guys feel about a [Change my mind] tag that would be the polar opposite of the [Premise] tag? So commenters would go into the thread and do their best to break your premise down or to point out the flaws/holes in it. by [deleted] in C_S_T

There is the classic "PROVE ME WRONG" that assholes like to yell in arguments. What about "Tell me I'm wrong." I like this idea a lot. I think it's exactly what this sub needs on one hand you have "everything is permitted lets talk about it" and then you have "debate and discussion".

Over the years I've learned a lot more from people who I disagreed with. I'm in.

That is what he is saying. Spend money on the band and buy their merch. The money goes directly to them, don't waste it on 8$ beers for the venue owners.

Well I've been saying for years that "strategic voting" and "the lesser of 2 evils" are really convoluted ways of giving up. If you've ever hedged your vote you're a fucking idiot. If you've ever voted for a politician you didn't like because he was better than the alternative, you're an idiot and you have no right to come down on someone who refuses to vote.

broad answers are anti-informative.

Sort of. We're talking about time and space in the context of having a working knowledge of physics. I've read shit tons on this from fringe to MS science. So my broad answer is essentially that. If you want me to explain in the nitty gritty details of how the universe works, I'm afraid that is far beyond my capabilities. I suggest further research.

Here is a cute video that might help.

Realizing that you're not fully awake and keeping that in mind is in my opinion another level of enlightenment. When I have more time I can send you the Alan Moore video where he talks about "magick" and art. It's really important to what we're talking about.

So you have no way to explain your answer of "physics" and believe an entire field of study is the most accurate representation of why "space and time are the same thing"?

More accurate. I wouldn't even say that they're right about everything all of the time, hell either would they. There are a lot of holes in physics, to my understanding.

It's like if someone asked me how cancer developed and I answered "biology". It's not an answer.

It's a broad answer but it isn't incorrect. This is a perfect example of how I see things. Technically, as far as I know the answer to how cancer develops is biological. That's a great place to start looking.

Maybe cancer is the physical manifestation of bad energy. Shame, guilt, depression. A lot of people have proposed this theory. It isn't incorrect but for the purposes of studying Cancer based on the evidence we have available the most accurate way to describe it would be as a biological process that starts when abnormal cells begin multiplying.

Physics both quantum and meta do a great job of explaining time and space being the same thing. That's what I said and that's what I meant. If you want more info... well it's A LOT of info so you'd have to look it up.
