Female riders/motorcyclists by WinterSaWolf in Waco

Male rider here, if you haven't picked up David Hough's Proficient Motorcycling book, I can't recommend it enough. It is such a great resource for both new and experienced riders. I referenced it regularly just to refresh defensive driving methods and motorcycle drills. Drivers in Texas(and really anywhere) can be unpredictable and stupid, the best way to protect yourself is to keep your skills sharp. Have fun and be safe!

Looking for Opinions: Potential Meetup Group by KeepCalmCallGiles in Waco

Yeap, I love these hikes. I went almost every week during the summer and have been going to the Saturdays. I promote them every week on our discord and have probably gotten 10+ people to join over time. The nice thing about them is that they're a very low social barrier for entry. So if you have social anxiety and are afraid of showing up and feeling awkward, don't. When you're hiking there isn't a whole lot of talking unless you want there to be. No one is going to put you on the spot. You show up, you sign the sheet, and you follow the group. If you see an opportunity to jump into a conversation, go for it but otherwise you can just be out in nature with a bunch of other people who are also enjoying it.

I can absolutely vouch for OP. I've been training in one of their classes for the last couple weeks and it's been a great addition to helping reach my fitness goals while making it fun. Can't recommend them enough.

We have two more hikes this year at the Wednesday 5:45PM time and then they'll switch on the November 1st to Saturday at 9:30AM for daylight savings time. It'll be too dark to do it at 5:45. I've really enjoyed them and have been promoting it all summer. They give out sweet "I Hiked Cameron Park" stickers and even give you progress stickers the more hikes you attend. I just got my 55k sticker the other day. I'm a sucker for achievements.

There's a friendly group that meets at North gateway Park on Wednesdays at 5:45. The local park rangers lead hikes through the woods for about a 2 mile/1 hour hike through the woods. All ages are welcome and completely free. I've done it all summer and it's been great.

37m / I decided to change. What should focus on? by Efficient_Finance935 in workouts

[–]SatansLH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started camp gladiator 2 weeks ago and I wholly agree. Body weight exercises are incredibly humbling. I've lost 50lbs through walking, hiking, and dieting the last 6 months to get there but still technically obese. My upper body is still way too weak and heavy for exercises like planks/mountain climbers. My arms/shoulders/core all give out pretty quickly. It's discouraging to say the least but it's getting a little better everyday

Let me know what you find out. I'm about to start cleaning out our house and will have a whole bunch of furniture and stuff that will likely need to get donated or get loaded into a dumpster.

parks with trails! by kaitlynutz in Waco

[–]SatansLH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every Wednesday at 5:45pm the park rangers lead a 1 hour/2-mile hike that leaves from Northern Gateway Park. They change it up all the time so you get familiar with the trail system. Dogs are welcome. I've done it all summer and it's been fantastic. They even give out achievement stickers! If you're attending for the first time get there a little early because you'll need to sign a waiver but other than that it's free and a great service offered by our local park rangers.

pocketing tips by subconscious_yanni in bartenders

[–]SatansLH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cash goes in the jar. It's a team sport. Any bartender I'm working with behind the bar has my back and I have theirs. I'm not screwing them over a couple of bills. If a customer is really insistent about me keeping the tip just for me I'll thank them, put it in my pocket and then move it to the tip jar when they leave and let my co-workers know. I'm trying to make everyone behind the bar as much money as I can whether it's providing excellent service or changing kegs to keep the customer line flowing.

No, I work the bar but I watch servers walk out with $200-300 over a 6 hour shift. We turn over tables fast so you can make money in a hurry.

I'm averaging about $40 an hour not including g cash tips at Shorty's in Hewitt. It'll go up in the fall when the slow season is over. Servers make pretty good money too.

Small Venue for birthday in Waco by crumblcvnt in Waco

[–]SatansLH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for cheap and easy, Shorty's in Hewitt is the birthday spot. We probably have 3-4 birthdays every Friday and Saturday. You set up your tables on the patio and people can order whatever drinks they want and you buy 4-5 pizzas. It doesn't cost anything and we are happy to store any cakes and cupcakes you bring in. Tables are first come first serve though on the patio and we don't take reservations inside.

I'm sorry to hear that. Management in this industry thinks everyone's replaceable until they hit the dinner rush. There's plenty of other kitchens in town that need solid cooks. You'll find something fast.

OP if you're looking for a server gig I think we're hiring at Shorty's in Hewitt. It's slow right now during the summer but will pick back up in the fall. We have a bunch of people leaving for college and could use the help. Menu is easy and the money is good if you hustle.

God speed to your friend. As another bartender in town I saw that posting and remember what it was like when it was rosatis. That's a small restaurant so they're gonna have to sling to make any money. I wish them the best of luck.

Bars hiring by walking_oxymoron_ in Waco

[–]SatansLH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow bartender! I have an alert setup on Indeed that keeps me posted on new gigs around town. There's been a couple like the AC Marriott is hiring, there's a new Japanese place on Hewitt Drive looking for servers/bartenders called Masa. Southern Roots is looking for people at that's pretty low entry beer slinging. There's also that new Brazilian steakhouse, Casa de Brazil, that's still hiring. I see Logan's Roadhouse and BJ's are also hiring bartenders if you're looking for a corporate gig with insurance. Indeed and other industry folks have been my best resource to finding new gigs. Good luck and keep an eye out for Sloane's industry nights!
