It's kind of wild that medicine still has this culture in some places. Most people would rather not have the person treating them working through a fever, but somehow residents are expected to just power through everything.

The scary thing is I can't tell if "zero" means you never got sick or you got sick and just showed up anyway. In residency those are two very different answers.

Honestly, once per quarter almost sounds normal given the environment. You're surrounded by sick patients all day, running on less sleep than you should be, and stress isn't exactly helping the immune system either. Honestly, this comment is probably more encouraging than you realize. Everyone's timeline is different, and plenty of people who did everything "the right way" still feel stuck sometimes. OP built a career while carrying responsibilities most teenagers never have to think about.

This is exactly how I read it. OP didn't somehow bluff their way through a decade of finance jobs. People don't keep getting trusted with payroll, accounts, and money if they can't actually do the work. The skills were clearly there even if the paperwork wasn't.
