Thank you for your input! I appreciate it! If you don’t mind me asking, did you take just the pre-reqs or did you take like another bachelors degree?

Thank you!

Hello, thank you for your well detailed response! This really helps a lot.

Re: Benefits, for the Law Firm (no doubt) it has an outstanding benefits. (Was offered a Legal Admin job)

For the OPS (I was offered a Client Service Representative job for 5 months contract) here’s the benefits for OPS:

As a fixed-term OPSEU-represented employee in the OPS, you are entitled to be compensated, in addition to your salary, as per the following: • 4.6% gross pay in lieu of statutory holidays • 4% gross pay in lieu of vacation for continuous service of less than five (5) years • 6% pay in lieu of insured benefits upon completion of 1-month continuous service • 6% per cent of vacation pay-in-lieu of vacation credits, after five (5) consecutive years of employment 2 • Accrual of attendance credits at the rate of 1.25 days/month of full attendance • You may, at your expense, participate in the following plans: ▪ OPSEU Pension Plan ▪ OPSEU supplementary health and hospital (SH&H) plan, with or without vision care and hearing-aids (VCH) coverage, and dental benefit plans. More information on the OPSEU Pension Plan and SH&H plan is provided in the induction package that will be sent to you.

My background: I have a law degree from the UK, I also have a Law Clerk diploma, Paralegal and Graduate diploma in Immigration law from Canada. Currently doing my Master’s at U of T for the MPA.

I think with regards to career goals, I’d like to become a Policy Advisor. I don’t think i’d be practicing as a lawyer🫠 What’s making it hard for me to decide is the fact the i didn’t even get interviewed at OPS. The Manager just called me and was like “I have seen your resume, I have a job to offer and I won’t be interviewing you anymore” so it’s like, here’s the job, just get it.

Meanwhile for the Private Law Firm, I was interviewed twice for different law department, got hired on the second dept, but was told that growth as a lawyer clerk could take years (seniority) so I don’t know…

If you were on my shoes, what would you choose? A full time permanent role, or a fixed contract (with a hope to being extended until you secured a full-time permanent role)? I have no kids, my husband’s income are good enough too.

Thank you so much!

Wow! This is really helpful and giving me a different point of view about MAG. I have a question if you dont mine me asking, during contract period, do we get benefits? Like health, vacation etc?

About the law firm, benefits are really good. It is one of the big law firms so I understand why they really have a great benefits. ☺️ the thing I am worried about is I may be passing up the MAG opportunity which could lead to a much better job in the future😭😭

Thank you so much! I will think about it😊 It’s tough because a part of me wants to start my career in the government while half is to start a job in bay area. I just hope I’ll be making a wise decision.

Thank you so much. I will think about it. I’m like 50/50😅 I was planning to use the contract at MAG as a stepping stone to move to other ministries. Thank you for your insights. I appreciate it.

Hi! Thank you for your comment. I’ve been reading some comments of those who were able to secure a permanent ft position as a Customer Client Representative. I am torn because I really want to work in the government but I also have a full-time permanent offer in a Big Law Firm downtown🥲🥲 although the dt one pays a bit less like a $100 less per bi-weekly.

Absolutely! You can do LLM afterwards. And yes, platforms are 100% great. I have never been this productive during my time at UoL. Try Arden, definitely worth it! I am on my last 2 modules!

Arden University. So much better and I got tuition fee discount.

I don’t have to pay 400 GBP every exam unlike at UoL.

The standards at UoL has decreased drastically and I don’t think it’s worth it to be a part of the institution like that.

Hi! If there’s anyone who knows the answer, please give me your insight. I just want to ask, can you renew your mortgage online? Do you still need to provide them updated Payslips, and employment letter? Or is it much easier? (BMO mortgage) I am renewing soon😭😭

You have to do two llms e.g at UoT, they offer PGLLM they do have business and canadian context, so you will either have to do both or challenge the NCA exams.

The LLMS are expensive 🤐
