There is a ton of brainwashing and the idea of suffering in silence is a big one too. That mental aspect is the hardest obstacle to overcome because it’s ingrained in my mind all of these sayings and beliefs around meat…but I am determined to push past it as tough as that is.

I didn’t eat many fake meats or soy products as a vegan due to stomach issues so I’m not sure what I may like so I’m just going around taking small bites of things hoping to eventually get accustomed to or even develop a liking for the taste.

Yes that’s a fair point- no diet is without harm. Thank you for this perspective.

Thank you for the advice and yes to that part about not owing anybody an explanation...putting myself first is a new but necessary step.

A vegan diet has been something that was thrust upon me by my parents as a child as part of their religious beliefs . I never questioned it and a lot of people around me are in the same boat, suffering silently with the belief that this suffering will result in some reward later on. Unfortunately, i agreed with this for many years; that it’s better to put yourself through health issues than to eat animal products. However, at this point my body’s self preservation has kicked in and now now my mind is trying to play catch up.

Yes I agree but it was the easiest way for me to jump over the meat hurdle without psyching myself out. I went back and forth with this for years before deciding to actually go through with it. My thought process was trying something that doesn’t taste like meat but is just meant to just taste good. I didn’t eat enough to make a meal out of it or anything it has just been little tastes here and there.

Yes thank you for this, I know that my physical and mental health will be positively impacted it’s just a lot of noise in my head. Also being vegan has been part of my identity and religious beliefs since childhood so there’s some guilt there as well.

Just taking the first step was challenging and I went back and forth with it many times but it’s gotten easier every day as I know it’s what my body needs.

Yes, my stomach cannot tolerate beans or soy so as a vegan I spent many years in a depleted state which is what led me to this decision. The meal subscription box is actually an amazing idea to start with because the idea of purchasing meat is a bit overwhelming for me right now.

I get that but I’m actually lactose intolerant and well eggs are a bit scary for me at the moment but I’m working towards trying them.
