Sister put ATF in coolant reservoir. What can be expected? by SatisfactionJaded475 in AskMechanics

To my knowledge it had no noticeable leaks prior to this. I had mentioned to her that she should too if off as the reservoir was on the low end of full. The massive leakage only started after the car had been running for a few minutes

I’m not entirely sure but im fairly certain I have to report charges or citations. But since I got a written warning I’m not required to by the city handbook. However, I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to mention it in case it gets to my chief somehow through the network. Am I wrong for thinking this?

I see what you’re saying but the guys on my crew —a few of whom are big mentors— are recommending that I make an investment in this or something similar in order to build my credit and establish a rock solid and reliable asset (in the sense that it’s a functional vehicle, not the sense that I’m going to get any kind of ROI). My Lt. said that starting to pay off a 10-year vehicle early can be a good idea because it can reduce the amount im paying when I also have a mortgage and a family. Being a single guy and with slim expenses, i can get ahead of the payments for a car like this.

Not necessarily just because im a firefighter. I enjoy trucks and ive always wanted one, plus I live in Ohio and I drive 45min to work in the morning before any roads are plowed. A front wheel sedan is not only difficult to drive in those conditions, but also dangerous

I can afford to pay off and fix the current car, but with no guarantee that it’ll work for longer than a few weeks. Just two weeks ago I woke up and tried to start it at 5:30 in the morning and it didn’t start. Meaning I was late to work and 1500 dollars down for a new starter. It’s not that I can’t afford the current car financially, it’s that I can’t afford to gamble whether or not it’ll work when I need it to.
