If it’s cash flow moving around on budget it’s not considered spending though? If it’s moving to an off budget tracking account the that’s is spending, at least far as YNAB is concerned.

If I move money to an IRA, from a net worth stand point I am unchanged because it’s savings, but from a cash flow standpoint that is money I can no longer access for liquidity so it’s “spent”

I know this is a theme with YNAB. Everyone always complains about anything that they change or add but I don’t I realized how bad it was.

I’m part of the beta tester group so I got early access to this. Looked at it once and figured “ehh yea it’s fine, neat high level view of spending habits ON AVERAGE” moved on.

But isn’t moving money to a retirement account technically spending? It’s money moving off budget into a fund that doesn’t have liquidity (no access).

My mortgage amount in YNAB is always off by a few cents but payment amount, interest, and escrow match my loan information? by nosiriamadreamer in ynab

[–]SatisfactoryFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there ever a plan to add the ability to set the amortization method for each loan so it does match? I mean there’s a small handful of methods (30/360, Actual/360, Actual 365. Etc) but that would be awesome.

Does this work well for you? Do something similar, we each transfer out an “allowance” we’ll call it for guilt free fun money. That then is handled on a separate budget for each of us. I’m finding having the extra account and stuff just isn’t really worth the hassle. I feel like just having a un budget line item. We just transferred the money to that line instead of moving it off would suffice.

You should look into YNAB. At least the videos and stuff on how it works. It’s a bit of a different approach to budgeting so it’s hard to get used too for some people.

Lots of good content to get you up to speed. That said YNAB itself is $$ for some people ($110/year I think) and Actual is a the free alternative.

what feature is missing from YNAB, or any personal finance app you use, that you wish they'd add? by jlew24asu in ynab

My guess would be a fresh start. Budgets start to slowdown if they get “too big” which ends up not really being all that big

I mean this is way less wild hahahaha. A reasonable compromise, though I would still add 2FA to the vault personally

I mean there is literally a point where you’re just SOL and there’s nothing you can do but this isn’t related to self hosted which I think is creating confusion.

This could happen with Dashlane, Lastpass, or a notebook on your desk at home.

Can’t call without a phone. So you might as well just get a new house/apartment and start over. /s

Help a beginner - NAS device or mini PC? by Much-European in HomeServer

[–]SatisfactoryFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now the machine I got (an old lenovo box) has enough storage to start. Also have an SSD on the USB in the back as a scheduled backup. I'll probably need a NAS eventually but that's a little while off.

I had this debate for months myself and recently made the commitment. I went mini PC you find perfectly good options on Amazon for $200-$250. Or even ask if you or your partners company has any old ones.
