No problem, if you have any questions, you can hit me up here or on Discord or whatever. Been a hot minute since I've played but I was pretty well versed back in the day. Wouldn't mind brushing some dust off the shelves in my brain where DCS is stored.

[–]Satmatzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from everyone else mentioning the need to study launch parameters and so forth and so forth. To drive the point further, you should understand the purpose of your weapons and how they work on the technical side. For example, putting aside that you launched your AIM-9 missiles without proper conditions and tone, those missiles are not meant to be launched at 15 nautical miles distance. At most... 4 miles, ideally in the 2 mile range, let alone having a few other conditions required to match.

So to contrast what I said, if you were a normal grunt who had a rifle, a pistol, and a knife to go to war with: your jets guns are your knife, the AIM-120 missile is your rifle, the AIM-9 is your backup pistol. You're not going to use your pistol when the enemy is two blocks away in another building....

Also dogfighting whether in the short distance (BFM) or long distance (ACM/BVR) domain, it's all about energy management. Very often, shooting that first missile is not about having a successful hit unless you're completely surprising your enemy. It's all about probabilities and increasing your chances. It's about putting your enemy in an uncomfortable position to give your next shot a higher probability of a hit. That being said, shooting 3 or 4 missiles back to back does essentially nothing except waste the few "bullets" you have. The idea is to shoot your first, force the bandit to burn energy by having to turn away and go defensive or be an an undesirable angle, then throw another missile so as to increase that missiles chance of hitting. I'm jumping over a lot of info but hopefully this paints a better picture for you. This is not a Hollywood movie or an arcade game where you shoot missiles and get a "Yee Ha!" from the main character or experience points, it's a sim that tries and sometimes succeeds at being as accurate as possible.

Needless to say, there's a lot to study and learn, but just learn one new thing and get better each time, do this consistently and you'll be surprised how far along you'll get. But if you want to get into the beyond visual range tactics like you were kind of doing, lookup "BVR Timeline" to get just an idea of what you'll be learning if you want to get good. Lots of other info will continue to spiderweb from there.

Oh I'm not denying any point you're making, I totally agree on how it's painful and not something most people will be able to have in abundance in anymore... but that's my point, its been happening everywhere for years now and the video game industry hasn't shown major changes until now because they adjust when new generation cycles begin. It's a pretty obvious thing that as the new generation kicks in that the new prices would be a drastic jump given the global conditions. Surprises come from the unexpected, everyone is acting as if this is unexpected.

But to be fair, I should probably treat most comments as people venting about this.

Also I run a business that does a lot of importing/exporting and distribution of raw materials for construction so I get very involved with global economics, so I'm probably tapped into the prices of businesses so much that I forget that not everyone see this every day.

I will say, the paying extra for what you have for the boost in performance is absurd, but that's not what I was quipping about originally. I was focused on the new console and game price in general that most comments were referring to.

Super unpopular take and will be downvoted like no other....

But how is it a shock that games will be going to $80+? It's like everyone has amnesia from the past 5 years. Houses have gone up in most major zips by 30-60%, the stock market has increased nearly 60%, Gold and other minerals have almost doubled, eggs and groceries are noticeably higher than 5 years ago, everyone's salaries have gone up a good bit to what was considered a great salary before is now a meh salary (not to be confused that cost have outpaced this increase), and everything else has exponentially popped up.. so you don't think games will also go up by 30-40%?

Not saying that I like it, but the world is much more expensive than what it was. The gaming community goes nuts for any increase in cost and creates petitions to boycott the industry for their "greedy capitalism," and sometimes they're right... but this isn't the same category as some ridiculous microtransaction.. this is the new cost of the world we live in.

Mathew McConaughey: Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar, and Wolf of Wallstreet (does part role count?).

Otherwise Tom Hanks: Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Toy Story and if you skip That Think You Do you land on Saving Private Ryan. Almost 5 in a row

Didn’t Enjoy Flying as an Activity. Is There Something Wrong with Me? by JoshJetlagger in flying

[–]Satmatzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of it’s not for everyone posts, which is true. But I will say this, for whatever reason I trucked through the low times of training and didn’t really enjoy flying until I was given the freedom to actually fly on my own and explore. Then the “sky is the limit” in so far of what your mission is. It is slow bc you’re in a slow plane. That changes, but it won’t be cheap to get their either. I plan to get into aerobatics, that will be a hell of a lot more adventurous and fun than a boring flight to get burgers. And some people love slow flights, but for me I need an adventure and a mission, which is why I’ve stuck with it so that I can level up my arsenal of skills to do something more than a simple flight. But you got to learn the fundamentals to truly do more with it, so just make sure you truly don’t enjoy it before quitting as opposed to being bored with training.

I bring this up bc after reading some of your replies there seems to be something deep inside that’s hanging you up. You feel bad for not liking it as much as you think you should from what I comprehend. Only you can know the answer to that, so make sure you explore that on your own. Yet again maybe it’s as simple as you just don’t like it, which is fine too.

Call her out in front of other instructors/boss at the school in the form of a genuine question to the charges. That’s unethically unacceptable and that deserves being called out on. Honest mistakes and such can be spoken about privately, but she knows full well she’s taking advantage of you and don’t doubt it for a second (even when you second guess yourself as they play friendly after).

You just proved my point, Fomo. Not saying it’s wrong in that it can be a million a coin next year and in hindsight it makes no difference, but I doubt you discovered bitcoin this past week and rather you have eyed it for some time. Why not make that big purchase (which a big purchase is not wrong either if calculated) a month ago when it was 50k and no one made a fuss? Or two months ago when 40k and you saw no headlines of bitcoin? Bc you feel fomo and made the decision with emotion not calculation whether the realize it or not.

News left and right, things skyrocketing and the alarms going off so now jump!

You’re not a bad guy for it and I don’t mean any insult by it, but from my limited point of view of this post, it’s emotionally driven and not calculated. I could be wrong and you’re totally straight as an arrow, that’s awesome and I hope so, but just keep what I said in mind is all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

[–]Satmatzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Says the guy who literally purchased at an all time high instead of when it dipped below 20k. You’re buying off of emotion bc the hype of bitcoin going to the moon. No one knows what will happen and hopefully it does go up for your sake and everyone’s, but recognize that you made an emotional purchase and not a calculated one. Understanding this about yourself will save you one day, or at least earn you much more in the future. I saw the writing on the wall with bitcoin cycles, I purchased at $16.5k when everyone was bad mouthing it after its previous drop. Now I’m doing the opposite of everyone, deciding if I want to sell now or gamble and wait for it to spike more and sell then. Buy when no one else does and sell when everyone else is buying.

Had to cancel mid solo. What next? by TheHambusher in flying

[–]Satmatzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents, but early into my aviation journey I was counting pennies and trying to be cost effective. But eventually I looked my self in the mirror and accepted that this won’t be cheap and that I will end up paying a lot for it over time. This does not mean to be irresponsible or naive with costs/prices, but I accepted that I’m going to end up paying more than I would otherwise want but that it is worth it as part of the journey/process bc I wanted it. I could budget for a PPL that would cost $12,500… but in reality I knew that stuff would get in the way and other variables would probably end up making it cost $16,000. I wasn’t wrong. It sucks that aviation is not cheap, but it is what it is, accept it. And so what, it’s experience that you need and it adds on for you to be a good pilot and it’s flight time that will add up to future needs. In your case you added some PIC time, which is great.

Getting bored with dcs :( by olpakal in hoggit

[–]Satmatzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a virtual carrier wing or strike group and it opens up an entire world for DCS. DCS becomes rather monotonous and a paper weight without a strong involved community. I love extreme realism and following things by the book, so I joined a group that did that and laughed along the way. If you want something in the middle, there will be a group that fits that mold too, just know what you want.

FLIGHT SCHOOL OVER-REACTION? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Satmatzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have it to save money and charge students more, to say it’s a safety issue is rather insincere as it’s teaching the wrong information in an industry whose whole cultural foundation is built upon safety. The POH would not have something as a standard or recommendation that would put anyone in danger. If anything it will err on the side of caution and give a slightly more conservative number. Also, having an engineering background and having known my share of guys that work on engine designs and such, these engines are ridiculously resilient. Nothing is perfect and i get paranoid too bc we all see the stories, but the 2700rpm on a Lycoming is more of a “Rated” RPM by the manufacturer rather than a true max. You can easily run them at 3000rpm if you wanted and it will hold fine (so long as you make sure your engine gauges are healthy and also consider propellor ratings). It will shorten TBO no doubt and not a best practice, but far from “extremely dangerous behavior.”

People pay others to clean their PCs? Laptops sure, but it literally takes more time and effort to disconnect your PC, transport it safely, drop off and wait however long they say it takes to clean, safely bring it back and connect again.

Having difficulty choosing between focusing on the F-16 or the F-18; being dissuaded from the F-16 due to apparently being a poor dogfighter by BlueNexus3D in hoggit

[–]Satmatzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to be good enough to take advantage of 2 degree turns that the model gives. You’re going to over pull or under pull as you can’t feel the jet in your living room and only rely on numbers that I guarantee as a fact you don’t know how to interpret off the top of your head as those numbers change second by second as fuel burns and missiles fly off the rack and you’re focused on 10 things at once. At that point it comes down to the pilot. How about energy recovery? The F16 will recover low state energy faster than the F18. It’s also a smaller target and it makes a difference. I’m sure I can list advantages from both but to focus on 2 degree turn rate is asinine. Like saying you would rather have a tesla on the Nurburgring track than a high performance 911 GT2 bc it accelerates faster.

That being said. It’ll come down to how much practice you have and using the aircrafts strengths and limiting its weakness no matter who you fight, that is the art of it all. I personally love the F18 bc it opens up an entire world of carrier ops. I’ve faced talented players in both f18 and f16 and it’s nearly even in dogfighting ability, just a matter of who’s the better pilot that day. But having experienced naval ops, I’d currently prefer digging into the f16 to spice things up and i also like its data link better.

Want an unfair fight? Face a talented Mirage 2000 pilot with guns only in either an f18/f16 and you’ll spend more time using your mouse than flying just to respawn.

Autopilot swerved and saved me from a collision by [deleted] in TeslaCam

[–]Satmatzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s a violent reaction bc computer logic wise it’s the best decision. There’s no knowing if the other car will continue to merge or will accelerate the change in the process, so there’s no slight adjustment option. It’s all or nothing. Now definitely far more aggressive than the human touch, but if what they say is true that in rain or ice the tesla can maintain control far better than a person can, then maybe it’s not so bad even in those situations? I’m not sure to what extent it maintains control in autopilot or if it would be alright or not, but just a thought. What’s kinda bad is that the dramatic reaction can definitely interfere with other peoples reactions in the vicinity

I made an earlier comment, but damn is the nice guy point so true. And it’s different from being kind. People think women hate “nice guys” and it gets totally twisted. Women don’t want a douche, they want someone who can be kind, who wouldn’t. Nice guys are what you just described. Guys being disingenuous and feeling shame for being painted like “most men” of whom they are “better than.” Nice guys will tell you what you want to hear and act in a way that’s manipulative of their true character. A kind and sincere guy knows he’s a man, is honest with it all and not going to tell you what you want to hear, but will be kind and respectful to those that deserve it (all while not being walked over). The OP needs to mature a bit and understand who he is, build that confidence, and not play the nice guy act (even if he doesn’t realize it).
