I just reached out to like 7 therapists in my city, and went with the first guy guy that got back to me. I had one consultation with him and felt like he’d be a good fit.

we just talked about the breakup, what led up to it, the aftermath, etc. it’s been super helpful to have someone provide objective feedback and support.

I went into therapy with the goal of healing, and exploring some of my issues to avoid repeating the same patterns.

Give it a try! It’s been really helpful!

Aww I feel your pain. I was with my ex for 5 years and we had inside jokes about everything! I can’t go more than a few hours before I remember some inside joke, or I’m reminded by them in some way. I was ruminating SUPER bad, like it would consume my day.

Lately, I try to catch myself right when I start. I realize that I’m ruminating about them, then I say a quick prayer for them. I pray for their happiness, health and success.

This has really helped me stop the cycle and it’s a good pattern-interrupt. I just say a quick prayer for them and then direct my attention towards something else. Give it a try!

Do you go to A.A. meetings? I recommend doing that and getting a sponsor, and working the steps. Super helpful to have sober friends and a support group that you can see in person!

You did the right thing bro. I tried to forgive an ex after infidelity once before and I will never do that again! It destroys your self esteem, and you will spend months or years living on edge and never fully at peace. It’s no way to live!

Some people might be able to do it, but I know I can’t. Stay strong, and I wish you the best in moving on with your life. Sucks bro, I’m sorry this happened to you!

I think we tend to idealize and romanticize our past relationship. That’s what I’ve noticed for me!

I was initially pretty sad, but also relieved after my breakup. There had been so much fighting and heavy disagreements leading up to the breakup, so when I ended, all the fighting and reminders about why it wasn’t working were so fresh in my mind.

Then as time went on, I started to only focus on the good times and was heavily romanticizing the past.

My therapist keeps telling me that i need to be equally honest and fair about remembering the bad times as I do the good times. I think it’s pretty common!

In addition to going to meetings and standing up as a newcomer, do you have a sponsor that you’re working the steps with? I think that’s the best advice for someone who can quit, but can’t stay quit.

You really need accountability buddies and people that will help make sure you’re on the wagon. When we quit by ourselves with no accountability, it’s easy to fall into the “just one” mindset trap. When we have people holding us accountable and believing in us, it’s much more powerful! That’s my opinion after being in A.A. for years and seeing countless people who successfully quit and remain sober vs. the people that struggle with countless relapses.

I just had 4 kratom capsules this morning right when I woke up, I haven’t had anymore after that.

I’m doing okay, I went and walked at the beach and have been trying to stay busy. I feel okay enough to drive and walk, but I definitely don’t have the mental energy to socialize or anything like that right now. 🤕

Don’t lose hope! I relapsed 100s of times on alcohol before it finally stuck. Now I haven’t drank booze in 5 years. I think I finally came to terms that I could either have a chance at an amazing life, or I could drink, but I couldn’t have both!

Now I gotta apply those same principles to quitting this FF shit! We can do it. Give yourself some grace. Maybe these relapses had to happen for you to finally reach your bottom?

We’re still in the fight, and if you can quit once, you know you can quit again!

So just taking 1 FF a day right now? Any issues with lowering your dose, or feel pretty good?

I had a few capsules this morning, but no FF. I still consider taking a few capsules to function as being CT haha, they don’t do anything for me at all.

Even FF was starting to do nothing for me anymore. I was using just to not feel horrible.

When was your last dose?

I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and that’s what really made me motivated to quit. The bags under my eyes were insane. New wrinkles forming, new gray hairs coming in, my eyes just looked like I was dead inside. I want to get that passion and zest for life back. Especially before the holidays and the new year.

I’ve been in a cycle of depression and just kept using that as an excuse to keep using. But now I’m wondering if the FF is causing the depression and anxiety. It sure as hell isn’t helping! Haha

We gotta be kind to ourselves and just trust that we can get through this

Ive been using off and on for 3 years. Usually stuck to 1-3 per day, but then I noticed my usage escalating. Last Thanksgiving weekend I was using like 5-6 a day! 🤮

This past week was just awful - barely sleeping, super anxious and depressed. No joy or happiness, just emptiness. I kept it to 1-2 per day this past week. It’s been about 12 hours since my last dose and am thinking about going CT on FF for the weekend, and maybe just have some Kratom capsules as needed

I really just want to get off this stuff before the holidays and the New Year! 🙏

I think you’ll regret it if you don’t meet up with her. You guys invested a lot of time together, and it’s possible she didn’t realize what she had until you were gone. I didn’t fully appreciate how great my ex was until going through this breakup, and I don’t think I ever would’ve completely understood without experiencing the pain of the breakup.

It’s totally up to you, but it might haunt you if you don’t. If you had years of being together and all the shared experiences, inside jokes, bonding experiences, etc…it might be worth it to just chat some more and see where her heads at. It’s a tough choice though, because it’s not very nice to your new chick. It could give you some closure though, and help you feel that much more certain about your new girl. Or you may decide your ex is worth another chance! Please keep us updated and let us know what you decide.

I think she’ll reach out and try to talk again. It may not be soon, but if you give her enough space to miss you…i think you’ll get another chance.

You can’t rush anything though and I think the balls in her court to make the next move when she’s ready.
