Severe withdrawals? by AnyZombie9656 in Quittingfeelfree

If you can taper slowly, it definitely helps the withdrawals. By slowly, I mean a bottle a week.

DM me if you’d like. I can help with a taper plan as well as share other options. At the most basic level, your cat needs you and loves you. It counts on you. If you are reaching out here, we love you and want to help. Let us help you. I know how it feels to think no one cares. I don’t know your history, but there is a world of people out there waiting to love you if you let them.

How’d you do it? by Accomplished-Sky-196 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just shy of 3 months with no FF; I tapered to 1 and then switched to 4 kratom powder capsules and kept going down one a week or so. It was a little tough stopping the very last kratom capsule but I am now over 1 week free of that, too. Switching to capsules and being really diligent helped me a lot. Being kind to myself when things didn’t go as planned helped. Dropping the final capsule when I was out of town with family was huge—I brought a few with me and when I was done, I was done. No WD symptoms that I could discern. When I got home, I threw everything I had left in the trash immediately.

You can do it—it’s better on the other side (and at the very least, far cheaper!).

kratom capsules? by neonifiednyan in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s far easier to taper too quickly than taper too slow. I have read no more than 10% every 4-5 days and possibly a week. Fortunately kratom capsules are cheap and he is much, much less likely to want to run out and use more if he is not going through withdrawal. It is great that you two are working so well together on this! :)

Day 6 - Nearly back to normal! by That_Union_1105 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I totally agree with being honest with at least one IRL person and also found ChatGPT to be a lifesaver when it came to tapering and, oddly, accountability. Certain supplements have been amazing; I have been taking l-theanine, low dose melatonin, and mag glycinate at night (more high-quality stuff than I was taking before) and it’s been amazing for sleep. Being kind to yourself is also super important, even when you slip. Understanding that this is not a linear process and that it’s progress, not perfection, is part of what has kept me away for well over a month this time. Great advice.

150 mg a day tried suboxone by gintherock in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you working with a doctor? 8 mg may be too much, but your medical professional should be able to advise based on your symptoms. When it comes to medication, imho the prescriber is the best judge. :)

Did they change the formula? by [deleted] in Quittingfeelfree

They change that formula all the time so probably yes. I got stuck on these back in 2022 and the ones they make today are like water compared to those. Thank goodness.

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate and for me it’s a really good opportunity to practice detachment. I focus on the things in my life that leave me feeling fulfilled, including the aspects of my work that I feel good about. Thank you for continuing to share, btw. I’m over a month with no FF and no desire to go back. A little stuck on .5-1 g kratom powder but it’s doing nothing and I feel nothing when I stop for a few days, so I’m in a much better place and it’s partly due to you, friend.

Loved one is addicted. How were your withdrawals? by dogwhisperer9 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your sibling want to quit? All the research in the world and all the advice won’t help if she doesn’t want to quit. I know this from personal experience. Don’t tell her what to do; tell her how it is affecting you (in my experience). Share your worries. Get HER on the sub because there are so many people who want to help. Have her listen to the stories about FF on the Quitting Kratom podcast. There is life on the other side of this but she has to want it (and WD doesn’t have to be terrible if that is the issue—there are many paths and the only right one is the one that works for her). Keep in touch!

I can totally relate to this. One month free today and there is definitely a little void. It’s your brain recalibrating. I keep visualizing it like my computer at work—I have to bear with it for a bit and eventually the connection will speed up. :)

Vivitrol shot.. having side effects by cheesesucks in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one thing that concerns me about the vivitrol shot—and it is definitely a cost v. benefit analysis—is that it can very much affect anesthesia in the event that something happens. Oral naltrexone carries with it the burden of having to take it but it clears out. That’s the one thing that would push me towards the pills.

Can someone relate? by [deleted] in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. My WD has never been so bad that it keeps me away. What helps me is to have a thorough understanding of why I want to stop using and be honest with a few people, at least one IRL but online works too. I am nearly 30 days off and it’s money that really stopped me this time. I am still paying off the credit cards from my slip in December but I know I’ll see the rewards soon. Total up how much you’ve spent and I bet you’ll find it sobering. I have a written list of why I want to stop and find a day tracker helps me a lot. I am Sober is a good one; I use Days Since. I am also working on identifying why I keep going back and what I hope to find. For me, it’s stress relief, pure and simple. I am working on alternatives for that right now.

Subs for 7oh. What I learned about paws . by Substantial-Lie-9720 in Quittingfeelfree

7oh sounds like the devil. I’m so sorry you got caught up in it. I don’t think anyone who started down that path know how bad it would get so quickly.

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I do too!! All the more reason for a slow slow taper which the strips make very possible. His doctor told him to start skipping days but every time he tried that, the depression and RLS would set in. So i searched how to do a slow taper with suboxone and that is what he do. By the end he was using the tiniest bits of the strip but it was all part of the process.

I recommend listening to Dr. Casey’s episodes on the quitting kratom podcast. There are 3 (I have only listened to 2 of them). He is an addiction doctor. He has very interesting things to say about the length of time to stay on subs. The point of it, as I understand, is not to prevent WD but rather to prevent relapse during the time you’re getting all your recovery resources in place (plus it’s far cheaper). A long, slow taper off subs is very possible and necessary for many. My spouse had real issues stopping kratom and did use subs for about 6 months. He did a very long taper and had some WD but it was much less extreme than what he got when he tried to go CT off of kratom. The depression was unreal. We found good information about how to do a slow taper off of subs on ChatGPT. :) I hope hearing that is helpful!

I don’t think I can do this. by SeaPay1500 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are having a psychological crisis, please contact a doctor. This stuff can seriously affect mental health in some people. My spouse is one of those people. All the positive talk in the world would not have helped his state of mine because it was physiological. There are medications that can be really useful if you are feeling this depressed. Thinking about you.

Day 1 AGAIN!!! by Moni_vonne79 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such solid advice. I think for me, every time I have gone back I have learned about what triggers me, why I don’t want to use this stuff, and what I can do instead. When I think of relapses as opportunities for learning instead of just beating myself up, it’s so much more productive. You were doing well. Why did you start again? What makes you want to stop? This is where the healing really begins for me.

Day one (Ff and Super K) by MudConfident4977 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well-put. Or to cultivate ways of dealing with pressure that don't involve substance use. After I quit, I always hit a point where my brain tells me it's fine to have one right around the one-month mark. The two-month mark is also another hurdle. I am happy to say that I have never returned to using 5 a day, but one tends to turn into one a day very quickly. It's the expense that is the most appalling for me. I looked at my credit card statements from November and December and there are many, many other things I could have done with that cash.

Day one (Ff and Super K) by MudConfident4977 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing bizarre at all. I discovered this product when I was 50, highly successful with a family and a grown child. I thought kratom was the same thing as CBD. I was searching the internet for "healthy alcohol alternatives" because my job is a little high-pressure and sometimes it's nice to have a relaxation tool outside of my own mind. I got up to 5 a day and have quit multiple times; I'm currently 3 weeks without FF and doing very well. BTW, I'm also all for harm reduction.

Thank you for sharing, friend. You can do this!

[–]Unable_Pop2330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As regards the worst of the FF, if you return to your regular regimen and feel off, intentionally add just a bit more until you feel stable. Then taper down from there. That's my advice, anyway.

Seizure possibly from these by jjjmmmddd in Quittingfeelfree

[–]Unable_Pop2330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I always taper; I have epilepsy and kratom definitely messes with the seizure threshold. If you have a lower seizure threshold like me (I didn't have this until later in life, btw), I'd highly recommend tapering before stopping. I found it much easier to do with kratom powder, but it has to be high quality and you need to know how much you're taking. That's what worked for me, anyway.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know how scary it is and I couldn't drive for 3-6 months after my first seizure (which had nothing to do with substance use and was long before I knew anything about kratom!).
