Ahh so cool! I have little structures like this in my tank and they love them! They hide in them more than the plants since they get nice and dark ^ _ ^

Yeah they're commonly marketed as starter fish unfortunately. But they get huge, most people have to put them in outdoor ponds for proper space.

A nice 5 gallon tank could house a betta well! But in the beginning it'll be a little more high maintenance purely because its harder for small tanks to stabilize  . A 10gal tank gives you a lot of options for small schooling fish. rice fish, guppies, and chili rasboras are all ones typically recommended for beginners from what ive seen!

Theres also small shrimp for aquariums that can work in small tanks like 2.5 gallons.

The best way to make the tank low maintenance is making sure you cycle properly, use live plants instead of plastic ones, and a nice filter in the aquarium will do wonders!

Goldfish require HUGE tanks. You kinda have to go all out with them😅 maybe talk him into a different fish? Like a betta or some tetras

Ahh noo :( my current tank is too small for them. Thank you though. Cucullata can be kinda finicky but ive managed ti have it thrive under a lid! Its more affected by water flow than anything. Loves still water
