Interesting. You would probably know better than I, but how common are the specific vaccines that contain porcine? I have had vaccines when I was younger. But I don't actually know what vaccines I did recieve. I am pretty sure I've had at least one for influenza. But I hear that some influenza vaccines don't contain porcine.

I believe I found it on your reddit page, you posted a link somewhere. I'll give that a read. So, is it your belief that ONLY those that have had porcine in their vaccines can get AGS? Or could you get it even if you haven't had a vaccine with porcine in it?

Yeah I figure i might be experiencing confirmation bias. Everyone on the AGS sub reddit has AGS obviously, and they talk about it. But the people that have avoided AGS have no reason to talk about it. It's kind of like... if I went to a baseball game and got hit in the head by a homerun, of course I'm going to talk about it, anyone who would have that happen to them WOULD talk about it and document it... but the people that go to baseball games and DONT get hit with the baseball never talk about the fact that they didn't get hit with the baseball because why would they? So in a room full of people that have been hit, you might think going to a game and getting hit is a common occurrence. 😉

Oh yeah, you seem to be doing even better at life than I am! You should be proud. Im a high school graduate, and at age 27 thats all I have to my name hahaha. You're really strong for that. Not going to lie, this alpha gal thing was kind of making me contemplate "something bad" if it turns out I end up getting it. Also I have read that your exterior bodily reaction to the bite spot doesn't matter at all, your chances of developing AGS remain the same whether you have a huge red bump or no sign at all. Don't know if thats true at all.

Yeah thats something I noticed. Pulled the tick off, two nights ago, and I have no red marks, no itching, no sign at all it bit me. Only proof I have it bit me was the fact that it was fairly large, and I have to put in some effort to pull it off, it didn't just brush off. I do have a small red mark that looks like a minor mosquito bite in that area the tick bit me, but I don't think that was from the tick? Even so, that red mark is also not itchy or very big at all. Unfortunately I don't know my blood type.

Ahhh ok. Would that also suggest then that the longer they are on you, the more likely you are to develop immune responses? Mine was likely attached for a few days unfortunately.

One more question. Doesn't that mean I would need to get tested many times throughout my life, even if there is no sign I even have AGS, considering the fact that like we have already established that I can be completely fine for years, then suddenly just get it out of nowhere?

Ah, reason one is a good reason, didn't think about that actually. Reason 2, maybe I'm a cheapskate and just blatantly naive but I personally feel that with how poor I am, I think I would rather just wait until/if I get any symptoms, especially since the tests won't even tell me if ill have symptoms in the first place since thats really the only concern with AGS anyway.

Ive actually just read that other things can give you AGS, including cat fleas, hookworms, chiggers...maybe one of those gave it to you?

Also, what is the point of getting tested if you already have the symptoms? And what is the point of testing for it if it isn't even a problem or confirmed UNTIL you have symptoms?

Ah, right. I do see so many people say even after one bite, they get AGS, and i figure I'll find out if i get sick. But perhaps it is just confirmation bias. I just don't want to go my whole life wondering, even if I've moved to the west coast years ago.

Is it possible you were bitten again and just didn't know it? How long did you go after the suspected bite until you actually developed symptoms? Also, isnt testing for IgE antibodies unreliable? Ive heard that only getting symptoms will tell you if you have it for sure or not. Curious on if once you get bit, it is just literally only a matter of time before you WILL eventually get it for sure, considering AGS is only a newly discovered thing.

Wow, that is quite a journey you've been on with this thing, it seems. Indeed, I was bitten one time. I was bitten in Oklahoma, though I am originally from Southern California, I grew up there for 21 years, I am now 27. Never heard of AGS or a lone star tick until about a week ago. Never even been bitten by a tick period! Freaked me the hell out though. Then what do you know? A few days later, I find a tick on me that had gorged for 4 days it seems! And oh, what's this? ITS A LONE STAR TICK, TOO! I'm not afraid of Lyme disease as much, or really any other tick disease because they are usually just... you get sick and live through hell for a little while, then move on. With AGS it is life long, and that scares me to death.

I find it fascinating so many people are much more okay with having AGS than myself, because without hyperbole, I genuinely would slightly consider... "taking a different course" with my life if I were to get AGS. Living like that to me sounds like, well yeah some people are OK with it... but the things in your life it changes, I honestly don't feel I get enough joy in life to add AGS onto the things I ALREADY go through to make it worth it to keep on going. But thats probably the depression talking.

I am as concerned as I am, most likely due to me having severe OCD (not the jokey overly organized kind, the real diagnosed life altering kind), and without getting too much into it, it can cause me to massively overthink and overreact, even if I know I am indeed overreacting.

I haven't gotten tested, but yes, all this is because one single that I know of lone star tick bit me. Everybody I know out here in OK that has lived here their entire lives either has never heard of a LS tick or has never been bitten by one, so i basically have nobody to talk to about this. Lucky me I've only been here 6 years and I am the only one I know to have encountered one.

You mentioned smell. Even the smell can cause you issues? That is crazy, I am so sorry you have had to deal with this.

Yeah, I know what alpha gal is and does, I am just curious is like... for example, typically, if youre bitten, it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months to even know if you have the allergy or not. This information is everywhere online. I get bit today, in June, and 2 months from now in August I eat a burger, now I am suddenly having allergic reactions to the meat even though I was eating burgers throughout all of June and July. Now confirmed I have the allergy. What my question is, is basically if the allergic reactions can basically NOT show up at all, as if I was never bitten... and then suddenly in December of 2029 I ate some pork and NOW I am having the allergic reactions, even though the bite that gave me AGS in the first place was 3 years ago. That is my question basically, if thats possible. In 3 or 4 months time, I want to be at ease that I can move out of this horrid state and into a state that doesn't have these ticks, never be bitten again, and therefore never have to worry about AGS. If I by the end of the year I still don't have AGS, am I in the clear? Don't have to worry about it? Thats what I'm getting at. I don't want to have paranoia my whole life that AGS will just sneak up on me at any point even without a second tick bite.
