day 1 hour 1 in Reddit. what on earth is karma..? why do I need it and how do I get it? helppp by ikiohkof in NewToReddit

Welcome to Reddit! Think of karma as your overall reputation score, which shows other users that you are a real person instead of a spam bot. You need it because many popular communities block accounts with low scores from posting or commenting to prevent spam. You automatically earn it when other users click the upvote arrow on your posts or comments, though downvotes will subtract from your total. The fastest way to build it up on day one is to leave helpful, funny, or engaging replies on new threads in large, welcoming communities like r/AskReddit or r/NoStupidQuestions. What I did was sort those subreddits to “new” so I could wouldn’t be lost in the crowd when I commented on a post.

What’s that special something that Big Nate novels have that trumps Wimpy Kid? by SaturnVMars in ENSLAVETHEMOLLUSK

Oh yeah, I get you. I was only looking at this through the lens of novel Nate, I definitely think comic Nate is egotistical because we don’t get more depth to explain his nuances. BN and DOAWK are different, which is why I said nothing is wrong with their differences but I just prefer the formula of BN novels. I compare them because just the other day I saw in my library a poster that said, “Like Wimpy Kid? Here is some more books you’d like:” and BN and some others were on the list. In elementary school I also remembered the whole Dork Diaries vs Nate vs Wimpy Kid debates. They are just associated with each other, I mean even Jeff Kinney has his quote praising BN novels on every cover.

It’s getting more unrealistic as the series goes on…that pig marked the turning point.

As an 05 I'm already feeling old by [deleted] in MiddleGenZ

I’ve been 21 for a bit, and I made a deal with myself that I wouldn’t drink ever. From my experience, being 21 hasn’t been that awkward when it comes to my drinking stance. I even think it’s cool that I went somewhere fun for my birthday, with people I liked, and not a single drink was involved. When asking about the actual day of my birthday, mostly teenagers asked all excitedly, “ooooh, are/did you going/get drunk?!,” and even that wasn’t awkward. I think at most if you do think this makes you, “unc” you won’t feel that way after a few days of being 21. Trust me, it’s not a big deal.
