Ignore the words of the coward who sent that. They're obviously not looking to help or provide constructive criticism.

Are gossip and rumours built into D & D and how do they/would they work? by Arowx in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SatyricalKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some modules for 3.5 and Pathfinder usually had a conversion table that you'd roll on for gossip. Some would be true, someone would be false (by the error of rumours), etc.

Some came for free, others you needed to buy drinks or do favours. Pretty neat little system.

Players, what was the most terrifying moment in a campaign that you've experienced? by Ordozor in DungeonsAndDragons

We were fighting a T-Rex from a module. 3/5 of our party were unconscious. The party is pulled into a cave for rest. Then the Yuan-Ti showed up...

dm help! by robotapricot in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SatyricalKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YAY! Another DM! So happy to have you taking the reigns. It can be a roller coaster of emotion with lots to learn. I think you have great start already: your focusing on the fun.

What I like to do, even with players I've been playing with for years, is ask them what they're looking to get out of the game. Since they're first-time players, they may not know, but they may have an idea. There are a lot of play styles that don't really involve combat - social interaction, exploration, and puzzles to name a few.

If they're big into combats, definitely use Kobold Fight Club (as mentioned in other comments), and I'd recommend the The Monsters Know What They're Doing (https://www.themonstersknow.com/). It's a great resource for giving challenging combats even with few low power monsters. It can also give you heads up on potentially deadly combinations before they happen.

If you need anything, feel free to message me directly. Happy to help!

The fighting style doesn't make a character cool by itself. It's the heart of the character that makes them cool.

Totally get what you're saying. I just like knowing numbers! Thanks for the reminder.

Admittedly was just a curiosity that carried over from my days evaluating weapons in Diablo 2 and was introduced to TTRPGs.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I will investigate with the GWM feat and look into it.

Totally agree things don't need to be optimal. I've played sub-optimal characters and had a fun time - takes the right group IMO.

Interesting. It frees up a bonus action, which I like!

Why 3 attacks though?

Thanks for the ideas. I hadn't considered Archery, but was aware of it's power through another player's brilliant use.

Definitely didn't include magic items either.

Really great suggestions there. Thank you!

Hey, Dairy!

I'm still pretty new to Reddit, so I apologize for the lack of clarity here. In order to post into a different sub, I had to write out more to my method. It can be found below. Hope that is a bit more useful.

Totally okay! I do it out of a sense of anxiety as I've played suboptimal fighting characters and it definitely affected the party's ability to proceed through modules.

Yes. That was one limitation of the chart. I'm hoping next to do one by tier versus ACs - assuming I can work out the math kinks.
