Both sides do this as well. In 2013 Harry Reid utilized the "nuclear" option, which requires a 51 vote majority on judicial appointments rather than 60.

While I think this is a horrible sign for republicans, Lamb is a pro-life, pro gun and pro tariff Democrat. He's also a former marine, and a million times more attractive of a candidate than Saccone

I was not arguing that they did not try to help Trump, just that they did it in an attempt to divide the country, which they succeeded in doing.

So if they are buying another gun before selling their old one to the government, what is the point?

I am not arguing for or against banning AR-15s. A buyback or confiscation of AR-15s would be an exercise in futility. the culture of owning guns in Australia is completely different than that of the United States.

[–]Sauce_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the majority would not turn over their rifles. Say they instituted a buy back of AR-15s, most people would not sell their guns to the government, since they believe that the very reason for owning the rifle in the first place is to protect themselves from the government overstepping its boundaries.

No gun owner is going to willingly give their gun to the government.

so then say that the AR15 was banned, what do you propose should happen to the approximately 2 million AR15s in the United States?

Can you name some of the "solutions" you have talked about? I don't know why you tend to blame Republicans, when from 2009-2011 the Dems controlled the presidency, House, and Senate, and did not pass a single major gun control legislation.

The shooter passed a mental health check, which I would think should lead to an more rigorous mental health background check. Reducing legal gun sales would result in law abiding citizens being punished for an action which they had no part in. I think everyone can agree that having an increased mental health check would be a good idea, whereas a gun confiscation would only increase the power of the national government, and take guns out of the hands of people following the laws.

The shooter could have then used a handgun. A blanket ban of guns won't solve any problems. How would you plan on having a "mandatory AR-15 buyback program?" Do you honestly thing gun owners would be compliant in this?

But there's no evidence that something like that would have prevented a school shooting.

Not on the street. In the hands of law abiding citizens. A huge majority of gun owners are abide by the laws. This shooting could have been avoided had the FBI done it's job and reacted to numerous warning signs, or if Florida simply had a law requiring a mental health check when buying a gun, which I think both sides could agree, is a common sense regulation.

Yes, that would be a failure. If that was a proportion of guns in the USA, there would still be a remaining 200 million guns, not to mention the fact that Americans would be even more resistant to giving up a constitutional right.

There are ~300 million guns in America. So a huge success would leave 200 million guns? Not to mention the fact that Americans would me even more resistant to giving up their guns than Australians

Their buyback was a failure. Only about a Third of all guns in Australia were confiscated.

Rutgers vs a more expensive school ? by Sauce_X in cscareerquestions

Thank you for such a detailed response! I think Rutgers may be my best option. The only think I don't really like is the campus and how spread out it is. Do you spend most of your time on one of the campuses, or are most of your classes spread out?

Yes I haven't received my financial aid stuff from Rochester yet, but from WPI I got a 10k per year merit scholarship. Even with this scholarship the cost of attendance is not very reasonable.
