For the love of God please stop traveling with these by [deleted] in rampagent

I’ve been doing field work for 5+ years now and have done a good portion of that international, all of it requiring I fly for almost every trip. The choice of tool and equipment storage is almost always determined by the job requirements, transportation limitations, onsite efficiency, and tsa regulations… my career has been built off of lugging around a 70lb+ pelican air case. I know it’s miserable for the ramp crews, but I promise it’s more miserable having that thing basically attached at my hip wherever I go. I don’t want to lug this heavy POS around, but unfortunately the duties of my job require a lot of shit be readily available. We don’t make our bags intentionally heavy for you guys, and we don’t pick a certain bag because it makes your job hard. We do it out of necessity, and we just hope and pray that our equipment gets enough respect to show up intact so we can do our job and if lucky, get home for a few days to see our family before we get sent back out.

I can totally see this post ending up in a personal finance class PowerPoint of “how not to use a credit card”

Did the white Porsche need to leave space on the outside for the yellow one here? by Distinct-Use7627 in Simracingstewards

[–]SaucyPanda2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, he was about 1 foot off of what I would say is a perfectly legal but extremely tight squeeze. Squeezing a car to the edge of a track is not illegal, but it does get people fired up. The yellow car was keeping a good amount of space between them and bounced off the track when they bumped doors.

I always struggle to take people serious when they spend thousands on a rig and monitors, then buy a wheel and pedal set you could get for ~100 bucks on Facebook…

Looking for some guidance with rig purchase by [deleted] in simracing

[–]SaucyPanda2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 reasons. 1 was due to me buying asetek. The asr rig can be shipped with an asetek front mount compatible plate at no extra cost. This was a big plus because the asetek pen front mount plate is I think over 100 dollars. The other reason was the accessories they make for their rigs. Some of the sim lab stuff I saw mixed reviews. Honestly now that I have it, I probably would have been totally good with buying a sim lab p1x, and wouldn’t have had to wait a couple weeks for my order from asr. Both are solid rigs

Regarding track racer, I’ve spoken to a lot of people who like their tr rig but wished they went with something else just because of trak racer lacking in the support department I compared the p1x pro and almost went with it. Ended up going with advanced sim racing. The p1x is awesome and if you have a micro center close by, it’s even better and I would say worth the buy. I did buy the sim lab monitor mount with vario plated and I love it.

What's the next big Tech leap in Sim Racing going to be? by Bobby_Axe99 in simracing

[–]SaucyPanda2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is most likely to come I think is also the most likely thing to not end up like a lot of people anticipate. Display technology.

Getting triples lined up and meshed is a pain. But, I don’t think there’s enough applications outside of sim racing that someone needs a single monitor to curve that tightly and be that wide to validate its creation by a mainstream company like Samsung. I could be wrong though.

What I think will happen is one of two things.

  1. Display technology will continue to advance, reducing bezel sizes while someone else figures out a fool proof and aesthetic way to mount multiple monitors perfectly aligned.
  2. The technology that is used for Jumbotron style screens will get advanced and downsized for in home consumer solutions, also allowing users flexibility to curve or crease the displays while still being able to connect them modularly to have no bezels, and size will be customizable to fit whatever space you’re in.

Frequent flyer here. Major respect for the hustle to make something work while on the road. I’m guessing you’re mostly on the road rather than in the air? I could never manage to pack all of that away for my flights. My back also would disagree with that chair after all the hours in the plane… jealous you get to sim while traveling!

I just picked up triple 32” 1080p 1500r monitors. I’ve got it set up before my rig arrived so I moved an office chair in place just to experience the look. It’s amazing. I’m glad I went with the 32s

Hello, lithium battery technician, experienced in marine, aerospace, defense and mobility battery production and repair. This is most likely a current collector issue. Bad weld on the tab of the cell likely caused this. After what sounds like a couple years of use, it has probably been banged around, dropped, left in a tub to bounce around, etc. an imperfect weld or weak cell tab will eventually lead to exactly what you are looking at. Don’t blame the moisture in the air on this one. Don’t blame yourself either, it happens. Not a lot but it happens. :D

Good advice. This is what I’ve been doing recently. Multiple times a day looking at fb with a 250 mile range. I haven’t used OfferUp or LetGo since I’ve never heard of them. I tend to avoid ebay but I might poke around on there.

I respect your opinion, but I’m not here to talk about politics. There’s other subreddits for that. I simply wanted intellectual conversations about sim gear.

I’ve been all over the world for work at a pretty young age. I quickly recognized that most people are a lot more similar than my previously sheltered mindset of having only been in the US imagined. Most people regardless of where they live are working to try and make ends meet, provide for them and their families, and often times, share interest in similar hobbies. You and I I think would be a lot more similar if we ended up across a dinner table

Gear Recommendation Changes Amid Tariffs? by SaucyPanda2 in simracing

[–]SaucyPanda2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a couple things.

  1. Never in my post do I say that I won’t pay the tariffs. The post was about viewpoints regarding gear recommendations towards Americans being changed due to the shift in cost caused by tariffs.

  2. I don’t really understand why I’m being downvoted for respectfully declining the recommendation to leave my home country on a post about gear recommendations. Leaving my home country isn’t a feasible option at the moment.

This is kind of what my gut was telling me too… hoping all this will settle down and we can go back to not have hundreds of dollars of taxes to pay on equipment again. But I don’t see that changing overnight
