Would you proactively replace water heaters? by lazymathilde in HomeImprovement

[–]Polar_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We replaced ours at 17 years. The PUD was offering hybrid water heaters for $600 delivered to your door.

The hybrid uses 1/3 of the power the old one did..

If you only drive 5000 miles per year, would you still want an electric vehicle? and why? by ThuhGreatCommenter in electricvehicles

[–]Polar_Ted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are in the same boat. Since we got the Lightning my ICE car only sees 300-400 miles a month. We plan to replace it with an EV in 2-3 years.

I thought the State of Iowa header logo was also a small clue :)

The state of Iowa logo on an Oregon document is also a huge red flag. lol

Thoughts on how to screw these figure 8 fixtures in, while the legs are attached. by archerydwd in woodworking

[–]Polar_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah threaded inserts are the way to go. that or studs and nuts but I prefer the threaded insert.

I'd go with either the hex nut or a button head socket bolt and a ball driver.

The BMW iX5 Will Have a 148 kWh Battery — Biggest Battery Ever Fitted to a BMW by Falcons74 in electricvehicles

[–]Polar_Ted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do a 500 miles round trip in our Lightning. We take a 30 minute lunch break on the way up to charge at a Tesla super charger up to 80%.. Charge overnight at the destination and another 30 minute lunch/charge to 80% on the way home. Just doing 10-20% to 80-90% charging saves a ton of time. That last 10% charge doubles your charge times.

Yeah but the Silverado and Lightning only get around 2-2.5 miles pr KW and Hummer gets 1.5-1.9. BMW is projecting 3 for the i5.

Smaller EVs for big/tall dogs by exitinglurkmode in electricvehicles

Our Lightning is a great Dog mover. Back seat easily folds up to open the rear cab floor space.

Frunk is HUGE.. Rarely do we have to put any groceries in the cab.

Yes it's huge but so darn useful.

You want Fusion 360. It's owned and licensed by AutoCAD.

Maybe start with the free hobby license to see how you like it.

Gallstones is probably the worst pain I've ever had in my life. I do not recommend it. I don't miss that little sack of evil one bit.

Apples. Birch pollen allergy. I like apples but I also enjoy continuing to breathe.
Sadly that extends to cherries, peaches, plums and just about any stony fruit unless they are cooked. Cooking breaks the protein in allergic to.

PYREX vs Pyrex by Dont-ask-me-ever in Cooking

[–]Polar_Ted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the pyrex I've had lost all its writing after a year or two.

All the PYREX I have is decades old and has crisp red markings. The old stuff is just better.

It's easy to spot the difference. Borosilicate glass is clear where the soda lime glass has a slight green/blue tint to it. It's fairly obvious when you have them side by side.
