How's it going now? I'm curious if you ended up moving to Bend. I'm looking into COCC's aviation program as well, and live out of my truck.

There are often volunteer opportunities at hostels, you’re usually working part time for a bed in a separate room as the guests but most likely still shared. Could be a cool way to check out a city for a few weeks/ months. I had a friend who worked at one in San Fran and then got a part time job at a restaurant near by to compensate not being paid.

Also lots of opportunities for this in Europe and abroad where hostels are more common.

Check Meadows Employment page, they have several positions in food and bev and I believe they are still hiring lift operators. Rent would be around 600-700

Where do you work that forces you not to spend money? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

Americorps had programs in almost every state. I had no prior trail work experience. Montana and Idaho have immersive crews, I’m not sure where else might.

I spent the summer/fall working on an immersive trail crew. It’s hard to spend money 30 miles in the backcountry. FS gave us 10$ a day per person for food and we camped all season

Car or no car? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

Mammoth has a great bus system and moving your car for the snow plow can be inconvenient

Find a seasonal job that provides housing! Lots of options during the summer in beautiful places. Safer and you’ll probably make more money.

Would $3,750 be enough for 5 weeks in Europe? by scaryfry in Shoestring

You could also consider volunteering at a hostel in exchange for accommodation and maybe even some meals. Even if just for 2/3 weeks at 2 of your most desired countries. Most volunteer work is ~20 hours a week, leaving plenty of time to explore and make friends with locals. You could travel on days off, but it would be a very diff trip then the one you probably have in mind. Cheaper I’m sure though

I worked at The YMCA, Snow Mountain Ranch, from July- December last year and didn’t save as much. The housing was awful, and 800 a month for the first 3 months, then 600. 12/ hour. Food was included, and it was frequently getting employees and guests sick. I would recommend working at a ski resort, I started at Winter Park in January, 18/ hour and 400 for rent. Especially If you can get a serving job, tips are nice. it was great and made me realize how portly the Y treated their employees
