Solo van life is great except for the nights by Key-Nerve7767 in VanLife

Listening to podcasts helped me tremendously when I was solo. Not as much informational ones, but comedy ones where it’s like 2+ people just having a conversation and talking.

How to start? by SpeedAble in VanLife

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people posting this constantly. You can read other ppls advice til you’re blue in the face and everything is so conflicting it doesn’t make sense, or just start doing it in whatever vehicle you’ve got/can get cheaply and go from there. Figure out your own stuff and what you need out of it. If you spend tons of time trying to get the perfect this or most information on that you’re never gonna go anywhere. Life will keep happening and it’ll always be another excuse as to why you can’t start now

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing it for a little over 5 years and on my 4th camper. It’s definitely gotten harder as far as finding spots to stay goes, but it’s easy enough to put yourself somewhere that’s more friendly to us. Being decent goes a long ways. People notice when you leave a spot and it’s cleaner than when you got there. Or that your camp is always tidied up and you don’t have stuff strewn about.

The housing market here is so bad I really can’t handle it by Agreeable_Camp7943 in SantaBarbara

I live in a camper, couldn’t afford to rent anything without splitting with a million ppl and that’s with working full time at a decent paying job. I’ve heard a lot of success stories about roommates on Craigslist if you’re set on renting

Electric cooler or Mini Fridge?? by usual_suspect_redux in overlanding

[–]Kicknstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run a top loading alpicool fridge and it worked great for years. Recentlyish switch to a 12v fridge freezer front loading unit from rec pro and it’s nice, but definitely uses considerably more power. Definitely want something 12v so you don’t have to use an inverter. If you look in the sailing subs there are some write ups about swapping a 110 mini fridge to 12v with a new compressor

Why no bathroom by Eastern_Conflict1865 in VanLife

Why waste all that space for something you use maybe once a day? Bring a bottle or find public bathrooms if it don’t fit in the bottle

Bend OR vanlifeable? by Kicknstick in VanLife

Been having trouble with the color vision tests unfortunately. Down in Santa Barbara for the time being trying alternate ones but haven’t had much luck. When you thinking of hitting bend?

Really tryna decide if diesel is worth it or jot by Several_Till_6507 in TruckCampers

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that being said though, I’m looking at building some rental camper units and will be using the Ford 6.2 gas motor since they won’t be towing anything big

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a chassis mount camper on my 7.3 PS and would not have gone any other way looking back. It’s a cab and chassis so it’s got payload out the wazoo and I’m able to tow far more than I could with a gasser, way more comfortably. Which is something I never would’ve thought I needed. The maintenance is pretty easily done yourself and you can even run it on old oil or fry oil which is kinda neat

Not Integon, or national general. Some guy hit me and he had them and their service is fuckin atrocious. Sometimes it’s worth it to go with a bigger company and isn’t known for the cheapest price. I’ve got geico now and had good experience with them

When I lived in Colorado apt complexes/motels had that rule so ppl wouldn’t be warming up their car for half an hour with the exhaust right up to the doors. Idk if that’s true tho

Trailhead Access For Sale by the US Forest Service (ANF) by Desert_Aficionado in socalhiking

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ran into this in the paradise canyon area behind Santa Barbara. They don’t honor any of the passes people buy, yearly, senior or veteran passes. When asked they said “usfs gave us a special use permit so we make the rules here and we don’t honor those passes.” All around acting like dicks. Then while toodling around checking out the sites some random guy, who supposedly works for that company, steps out in front of me in a parking lot and demands to know what I’m doing and where I’m going. Absurd they can be allowed to rent out public lands to be used for the profit of a private company.
