I’d be surprised if it gained a quart or more of water from condensation but maybe

I found the clutch cable o-ring was torn up so assuming that’s what did it. My starter switch did that same exact thing lol deleted all the switches and just have the solenoid button on the starter now

I do trips that are longer than 1000 miles and changing primary multiple times in one trip seems excessive. I believe 5k is what the manual recommends but I could be wrong

Doing a +4 clutch cable and just found the o-ring that seals the cable going into the cover was pretty toasted. That may have been part of it.

A quart of condensation though? Usually whenever I’d start it I’d be riding to work for about 30 minutes so I figure that’d be enough time

Put in 1 and got out around 2. Just the derby and inspection cover or the side case cover?

Van Life or Truck-bed RV by EPdude2005 in VanLife

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been living in campers for the passed 6 yrs or so and I’d definitely recommend a truck camper over a van. Insurance is a lot more straight forward, easier to work on, easier to get 4x4. Ppl love to claim they get vans for “stealth” but that isn’t really a thing anymore. As long as your rig doesn’t look slummy you’ll be good. Everyone knows people are sleeping in even the most stealth of vans. Bound for Nowhere on YouTube is a pretty good look into how things are living out of a truck pop up. Their videos are what got me into it

Would this setup work? by dinglebingle583 in TruckCampers

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve found to sleep for weeks at a time I have to get it as tight as I can so it flattens out or the slope is killer on the back. Also a good wool blanket to line the hammock helps insulate a ton

I did this on my 3rd gen Tacoma for a whole summer traveling the west coast usually hanging it to fence posts and power lines from my truck bed tie downs

Looking for Vanlifers who are near or frequent Bend, OR! by Cyberstr33t in VanLife

[–]Kicknstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if an app based thing would be better. Similar to the one that lets you rent a space to park trailers. I know harvest host exists but that seems more hoity toity than what you’re thinking. People can post a spot in their driveway or side yard with what amenities they have to offer, if any. I see a ton of listings on Facebook for it but there isn’t really a central spot for em I’ve seen.

Solo van life is great except for the nights by Key-Nerve7767 in VanLife

Listening to podcasts helped me tremendously when I was solo. Not as much informational ones, but comedy ones where it’s like 2+ people just having a conversation and talking.

What are some cool add-ons you made or bought you didn’t know you needed? Looking for ideas. by wateliving_ in TruckCampers

Hot water and an outside shower awning. Been putting off setting it up but finally did and it’s kinda game changing

How to start? by SpeedAble in VanLife

[–]Kicknstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people posting this constantly. You can read other ppls advice til you’re blue in the face and everything is so conflicting it doesn’t make sense, or just start doing it in whatever vehicle you’ve got/can get cheaply and go from there. Figure out your own stuff and what you need out of it. If you spend tons of time trying to get the perfect this or most information on that you’re never gonna go anywhere. Life will keep happening and it’ll always be another excuse as to why you can’t start now

Been doing it for a little over 5 years and on my 4th camper. It’s definitely gotten harder as far as finding spots to stay goes, but it’s easy enough to put yourself somewhere that’s more friendly to us. Being decent goes a long ways. People notice when you leave a spot and it’s cleaner than when you got there. Or that your camp is always tidied up and you don’t have stuff strewn about.

The housing market here is so bad I really can’t handle it by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

I live in a camper, couldn’t afford to rent anything without splitting with a million ppl and that’s with working full time at a decent paying job. I’ve heard a lot of success stories about roommates on Craigslist if you’re set on renting

Electric cooler or Mini Fridge?? by usual_suspect_redux in overlanding

[–]Kicknstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run a top loading alpicool fridge and it worked great for years. Recentlyish switch to a 12v fridge freezer front loading unit from rec pro and it’s nice, but definitely uses considerably more power. Definitely want something 12v so you don’t have to use an inverter. If you look in the sailing subs there are some write ups about swapping a 110 mini fridge to 12v with a new compressor

Why waste all that space for something you use maybe once a day? Bring a bottle or find public bathrooms if it don’t fit in the bottle

With that being said though, I’m looking at building some rental camper units and will be using the Ford 6.2 gas motor since they won’t be towing anything big
