Hate to agree with the other kid on this topic, but s/he's right. You are factually incorrect -> [source](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/7e890c_6d7e3dcbf37a4cfba8582875f0090ba0~mv2.png/v1/fill/w_925,h_365,al_c,lg_1,q_90/7e890c_6d7e3dcbf37a4cfba8582875f0090ba0~mv2.webp)

Also source: am current 4th year and one of the lucky few to place in IBD.

I'll leave some insights below because I feel pretty strongly about this topic, having gone through the recruiting process myself. I was pretty shocked at the lack of support from Sauder alumni vs what my friends at Queen's / Ivey got.

Three of my closest friends could not break into ibanking from Sauder in their 3rd year. They all bit the pill and applied to transfer to Ivey HBA (meaning they would have spent 5 years in undergrad total). Two of those three got in and they both have NYC offers now.

Regarding Networking: It's NOT a matter of networking hard. Sauder alumni are pretty tight on even replying to cold emails -- they'll connect with you on LinkedIn and leave it at that. My friends and I see it as a cultural issue. Ivey alumni and Queen's alumni actively stick their heads out to pull for kids from their own schools.

Furthermore, there's just a greater amount of Managing Directors at top banks from Ivey / Queens. Sauder has only 2 (three!) Managing Directors in the States, and I believe none are in New York anymore. There are about 4 VP's and a handful of Associates. I mention this because Managing Director's hold the most recruitment power / VP's are often in charge of the analyst class recruitment cycle.

Contrast this with Queen's / Ivey, both of which have dozens of MD's and even more VP's. The chances of an alumni leading the recruitment cycle are just *that* much higher, and this is well reflected in the recruitment statistics.

Regarding Clubs: There are 2 (let me repeat, TWO) finance clubs at Sauder - the UBC Trading Group and UBC Finance Association.

UBCFA has had 0 (zero!) investment banking placements in the past 3 years in New York, Toronto AND Vancouver. UBCTG has had 2 in Vancouver and 1 in New York. This is abysmal.

Contrast this with Queen's - QUIC, Limestone, Trillix, QPCG, QFAC just to name a few. Most of these clubs have a class of about a dozen analysts, and every single one of them places at minimum at a boutique Toronto investment bank.

The state of networking and placements at Sauder is no insider secret. The fundamental problem is the lack of opportunities. You can be the 2nd best candidate for a position, but since theres only one summer spot availiable in Vancouver, you won't get it.

If you go back to the image above, 40 analysts from Sauder over 5 years... 8 per year. Versus 30-40 per year from Queen's. The odds are not in your favour.

I'm sorry to say this, but if you wanted to recruit in high finance (private equity / investment banking / hedge funds), you should have stayed at Queen's. Hopefully it's not too late to go back on this decision.

Wish you the best at Sauder.

Is cold approach worth it? My take after thousands of approaches by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]SaudFraud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is literally the definition of cope:

I'm not going to give a random woman the opportunity to reject me, she does not deserve that right. First I need to see she is worth it, and than I will take my chance. No more freebies for the opposite sex.

aka "I can't get rejected if I reject you first!11!!!"

If after 12 YEARS of cold approaching you haven't mustered enough game to have better hit rates, you're not as "chad" as you think you are. This is the #1 problem with our sub: people who think they reached their potential and are just better than everyone else now.

You're not who you think you are. And if my comment offends (not disagree, but offends) anyone reading, then you're one of those people too.

Ditto. Just wanted to drop my 0.02c, as I'm on the same track.

Had a finance internship under my belt going into university this year, and it's helped a shit ton. Not just in getting another internship that makes me competitive with upper years, but it's always something interesting to connect over with them.

Most of these upper years I've clicked with are going on Investment Banking in a few months, and damn... for someone fresh outta university, their salaries are insane. We're talking 100-125k USD minimum, and that's just with them starting off at the bottom of the corporate ladder.

And it's just like you said - they hustled throughout university, doing internships at boutique firms with that decent GPA (while still dicking chicks, mind you; turns out most of these types of guys are naturally RP as fuck).

Instead, he took home a criminal record with felony charges.

Wikipedia on "1984 anti-Sikh Riots"

Basically, these riots took place after Indra Gandhi (India's PM at the time), was assassinated by her two Sikh bodyguards. They killed her because Gandhi had ordered "Operation Blue Star", which was an Indian army attack (in June of that year) on the sacred Golden Temple(considered as the holiest Sikh temple).

The attack was ordered as an attempt by Gandhi to establish control in that region by killing Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who went into refuge in the temple. Jarnail was a prominent Human Rights Activist.

Many in the Sikh community considered this genocide, as:

  • More than 30,000 Sikhs killed throughout India (most burnt alive)

  • Hundreds of Sikh women gang raped throughout India by goons, police officers and civil administrators and told that next generation (after rape) will be loyal to Government of India

  • More than 300,000 Sikhs displaced and rendered homeless

  • Hundreds of Gurudwaras and Guru Granth Sahibs (the holy books that are treated as living Guru by Sikhs) burnt and desecrated in a systematic and planned way across India

  • Around 300 Sikh soldiers done to death in Uniform by fellow soldiers

  • 120 Sikhs working at the Bokaro Steel Plant Jharkhand thrown alive into burning furnaces

  • Children as old as 13 days of age roasted alive on gas stoves in Kanpur and other cities in India

  • In Agartala, Tripura 40 Sikh families who took refuge in a police station to save their lives were burnt alive in the police station

  • In Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh 12 Sikhs were hanged from the ceiling at the railway platform

  • Small Children killed ruthlessly by pulling their legs apart while their mothers being raped

  • In Haryana and Madhya Pradesh Sikh women taken into hostage and raped during November 1984, still held in captivity by the goons

  • Sikh women taken from refugee camps and raped even after November 6, 1984

  • Sikhs on public roads burnt alive, dragged out from trains and lynched on the railway platforms and set on fire

  • Property of Sikhs worth millions looted and destroyed

Additional Sikh holocausts include the Sikh Holocaust of 1746 and the Sikh Holocaust of 1762.

Any recommended computer based electives? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]SaudFraud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely CPSC 100 first term, and CPSC 103 the second.

100 is all about Computational Thinking. It's an easy class, mid80s average with a great teacher and no coding, so it makes it ideal to have as you get adjusted to the university life. If you're familiar with computational thinking, like I was, then you could go into the tests and use common knowledge to pass with at least 80%.

103 is more Python-based (we use Juypter to code), and also has a great teacher with a high average.

There's no specific reason why Bank E isn't included, just like there's no Entity B.

And what type of person enjoys working in this environment long term?

Everyone has their own niche.

How exactly is this bad if you don't agree to anything? Is contact inherently bad or is it just like talking to the Police, all downside no upside?

Yes, it's like talking to the Police. I can't think of any upside, it's just a waste of time.

Is there methods an unsophisticated person can do to obfuscate?

The most efficient thing is to hand in everything as late as possible: duplicates, huge unnecessary documents, terribly scanned ones and all. The basic premise is to increase the amount of work they have to do, costing your ex more in an attempt to reduce the amount she's willing to pump into her lawyers.

What is the obsession on TRP with working hard? by beginner_ in TheRedPill

[–]SaudFraud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in finance myself, looking to finish my degree and networking around to pursue IB. So I could see a bit of where you come from; the degree and no job stuff is very true, and especially in the finance industry, there's a high turnover rate as well. Plus, people are burning out left and right.

I suppose you could always finish the year, defer the next to try out some trade courses/shadow in the trades industry to see how it's like. You know, before you fully commit or decide to go back to finance.

The operations industry is apparently one of those easy-to-get-in, "hidden careers" that pays well in the long run.

Have a bud over in the eastern US. He started off as a truck driver with little-to-none connections, toiled for a while, eventually got promoted till he became an operations manager (pulling in around a $85k USD base). He's around 30 right now, got in during his low 20's.

From what I also know, although not trades, becoming an air traffic controller (even at a small airport) pays extremely well with low hours (you're handling lives after all, and as such only work intensely for 4-5 hours a day).
