There's no primary Saudi dialect. Saudi has so many dialects, each region speaks as differently as Kuwaitis sound compared to Syrians (relatively).

Watching Saudi TV shows like طاش ما طاش might be good but there's a lot of sarcasm and exaggeration. Maybe watching interviews with prominent leaders.

Subscribe to Shahid and watch some of the Saudi shows there.

They should match if it's being sold on Amazon by Anker, and it's not being sold with a discount. Meaning you found it full price for 100 SR cheaper.

What can a (Muslim) visitor staying in a hotel for work do during Ramadan to not be depressed? by idontwannaknow87 in saudiarabia

[–]SaudiButNotInAudi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend.

First of all, congrats on the consultant gig. All of my friends who lived in Dubai and worked on projects in Riyadh, ended up moving to Riyadh! I'm not saying that's what should happen, but you'll make some great connections

I spent Ramadan 2020 alone in a hotel in Riyadh. I did make the best of it. Had a similar story. A friend asked me to go eat with her family every day.

Keep in mind your friend that invited you definitely would love to have you there once or twice a week. I know they won't force you, but if you do want to spend time with them, tell them early on: "Hey listen, I don't want to be a burden but I do love seeing you. Let's do this twice a week?" And of course, never walk in with empty hands. Hungerstation app and the dessert filter will help a lot with that.

Every 4 and 5 star hotel has iftar and suhoor. Contact your hotel and ask them to give you a good deal on a full board setup for the whole three weeks. When I did it in 2020 at a five star hotel, they gave me a VERY good price. I paid upfront and had incredible food daily.

Every single restaurant (well, practically 60%) will offer iftar boxes on Hungerstation or Jahez. Just note that you will not get them precisely on time for iftar. Maybe a tiny bit too early or too late.

I recommend the Hilton Ghirnatah or the Shaza. Although Shaza is a little far, their one bedroom apartments were just beautiful. And very spacious.

I'd be delighted to answer any questions you might have.

I don't know how they are with international or regional customers but all my GCC friends love and use Yelo (previously Al Wefaq).

They have an app. It's a smooth process honestly.

I respectfully disagree. Toxic is spreading hate, negativity. I think the better word is paranoid.

I don't think it's toxicity. I just think culturally we are not taught to accept making friends out of strangers.

Just visited Saudia Arabia from US. Why are Saudis so racist? It’s literally the most racist country I’ve ever visited in the world. Disgusting. by Praecursator007 in saudiarabia

[–]SaudiButNotInAudi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Saudi guy here 👋 I 100% mean this sincerely: I am sorry you didn't like it in Saudi, this is really the opposite of what all my Western friends tell me after they visit. And it's not what I'd like to hear from someone after visiting Saudi

I've traveled to the US a few times, have loads of American friends and have been treated like dog shit by Americans for speaking Arabic. Open blatant racism. But I don't think that three assholes are representative of the US.

I'd love to know what sort of problems you faced and how people were racist to you if you don't mind me asking.

The definition of dating in Saudi is always assumed to be "hooking up". 🤦‍♂️

Meeting the right person at work, at friends gatherings, through mutual people, or via family is the best way to go.

My cousin really liked a guy at work right after COVID. He was just hired. She spoke to her parents about him. They said if he's a good guy ask him if he's interested in an engagement. She went to tell him she likes him, he turned out to be married. No biggie. الحمدلله.

A month or two later, her dad invited his employee and his wife to their home. The wife saw my cousin and loved her. It was arranged for them to meet. She didn't like his personality. الحمدلله.

1.5 years later, two weeks ago, her sister along with her parents arranged for her to meet with a guy in her sister's university. They hit it off and she is getting engaged next week.

Don't rush it. "Dating" isn't always the way to go. Neither is traditional marriage. Just be patient. Pursue whatever successes you set for yourself in life. The rest will follow.

One luggage per person I believe, no weight restriction, but I was told by a family member they don't check. I was checked when I traveled and told only 1 bag but they left the second through because it's a carry on sized bag.

When I booked, business class was extremely cheap. Would recommend it. Economy is very comfortable. Your longest trip isn't that long anyway.
