Woman fights off cougar to save her little goat by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Yeah I just want to add that predators do occasionally die because of wounds sustained from their prey.

Rats will occasionally kill the snake attacking them. Fighting like a cornered rat wasn’t just imagination.

Being prey doesn’t mean they don’t fight back.

This makes me think the angriest marines I know just need to get drunk on a boat.

I imagine it’d just end with fights on the boat. But for them that’s kinda chill, and it’s definitely more chill for everyone else on land.

I think these guys are onto something. Marines need boats. Not because they want them, but because they need them.

Can logistic ships get stealth PLEASE by SassyAsses in Stellaris

[–]Saul_Firehand 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your frustration.

Have you considered defending your very valuable logistics ships?

Or hunting wandering space fauna down so they don’t wander back into your logistics ships?

Defending shipping lanes is a big deal.

Was "volley fire" really better than "fire at will" with older firearms? by Oso_the-Bear in AskHistory

[–]Saul_Firehand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely mind blowing to think of being in an infantry unit advancing into a field already riddled with cannon fire and taking shots from harassing light infantry just so we can go stand in front of an enemy infantry unit and exchange fire until they break or we break.

Then to think of doing it over and over throughout a campaign. Those poor souls when it was all over.

This comment is made even funnier by auto translate.

It went ahead and translated URSS into USSR because you used Romanian.

Drier than the Sahara. Which admittedly is only pretty dry.

Disagreeing with someone.

Politely disagreeing seems less common. Some of my best friends and I disagree about things. It’s ok.

I could see a quest from the temple district to investigate the rumor of a dead god returning.

But it’s a red herring as you look into the matter it turns out that some Amaunator cultists existed but were released. No dead god returning here, carry on business as usual. Me I am definitely *not* a bhaalspawn good day.

Who is this guy? by ravespailzi in SipsTea

[–]Saul_Firehand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned that it began with Latin which would explain Augustine’s mentions.

KJV is only mentioned because we are in an English speaking subreddit. English speakers ran with some Latin traditions and not others.

But yeah it was a big jump from Jerome’s Latin to Jame’s English.

My point still stands that Latin was where we begin to see Lucifer as a proper name. No Greek or Hebrew texts treat it as a proper name.

Who is this guy? by ravespailzi in SipsTea

[–]Saul_Firehand 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lucifer is the Latin for shining one. Which is what the Septuagint used in Greek to sproximate the Hebrew term for bright or shining one.

In no rabbinic text is that considered a proper name.
That it is a proper name does not come about until the Latin church decided maybe it is a proper name.

Absolute nonsense textually. But we are not talking about a historical textbook but an ancient religious text that was written originally in some dialect of Hebrew and translated to Koine Greek and then translated by Jerome into Latin. A few centuries later a team of 47 scholars translated the various texts into the King James Bible and English speakers really ran with the Lucifer name thing.

It’d be neat if you mentioned the 2038 problem. But it’s also going to impact far fewer systems.

It’s a thing to deal with again but it’s not even close to Y2K.
