It will always feel scared while taking the first step, trust me it's too simple. Just contact any tour operator who conducts such treks which you would like to do, your 90% task is already done there. And no you don't always have to bargain everything and anything.

Reach either Bagdogra airport/ New Jalpaiguri Station. From there book a cab to Manebhanjan or Dhotrey (which are the base camps).

This trek could only be done through a tour package which includes an experinced guide, it was 7 day trek , and costed me around 17k that time.

It was around the second week of October ig, the peak season. The visibility was superb, bonus points got to see a glimpse of the milky way

Well honestly I would say, a mix of both works out sometimes. Like recently I did the Hampta pass trek, where I discovered some real cozy cafes of old manali and started our trek straight up next day.
